You found us on a Friday.  So that means we’ve got some good news for you. We call our Friday programs, “Good News Friday.” David, Tim, I heard you talking before the show that you couldn’t even read the stacks yourself let alone share with us. So I got a feeling today’s going to be rapid fire.

Tim:

Yeah, I would say, Rick, the first good news is that in just the first couple weeks or month or two, hear of the Trump administration.  And we’ve already surpassed our stack of this.  Good news from Trump has already out done the good news that we were not able to cover from the last year under Obama.

So, in just a couple of weeks, and really even not even just cover, but all the good news that happened last year under Obama, we’ve already surpassed.  Our stack is higher than what we had had in the entire last year under the Obama administration. So it really is remarkable to see all the good things happening.

Trump’s Picks Are Shocking

David:

There are so many things I haven’t seen in years. I love the fact that Trump actually fired cabinet secretary. When the immigration order came down and the acting attorney general refused to enforce it he said, “Great. You’re fired, goodbye.”   I mean, we’re seeing Trump actually fire people who refused to uphold laws.  Are you kidding me?

Rick:

He’s not worried about shaking things up.  He wants to shake them up.

David:

“Let’s just go in and here, I’m going to pour the gasoline on.  I’ll give you the match.  You have fun.” He’s just burning down the stuff that needs to be burned. To have government officials become accountable suddenly, I don’t know how many decades it’s been since we had accountable government officials.

We talked before about it in states like New York, where they have the rubber room.  You have 600 schoolteachers who are paid not to teach because their contracts are such that you cannot fire them.

We saw what happened in the fiasco in the Veterans Department a few years ago. Only one person got fired out of how many thousand guys died from that? And so Trump comes in and he starts just axing people who won’t follow law.  I love it.  So the whole tone is different, you’ve got that.

Then you start looking at who he’s appointing and you take appointments like this one.  I’m just kind of blown away.  We know Liberty University, Falwell there.  He’s a good friend.

I speak at Liberty.  And you know, Liberty University is a place that carries guns on campus and they encourage kids to carry guns on campus.  It’s called, “The most conservative college in America.” That is the way it is described in the media.

And  guess what? He just took Jerry Falwell and put him on the President’s Council to help determine whether the federal government is overreaching and regulation of universities.

Are you kidding me? He’s the guy who is now going to say what- I’m loving this. He’ll be able to identify overregulation in a heartbeat because they have so much freedom on that campus.

He’s Actually Firing People

Rick:

You don’t think that’ll make any university presidents and whatnot shake in their boots, just a little bit?

David:

Well, it is. And by the way, to show you how bad the condition of American education is, we talk about the content coming out.  Listen to this Harvard Business School professor Clayton Christensen predicts that up to half of the nation’s 4,000 colleges and universities will fail in the next 15 years.

American education is already falling in on itself, under the current paradigm. And now you get somebody who wants to come in and drain the swamp. Maybe it’ll save some of these colleges.  I hope it won’t save all of them, because some need to go under the philosophy, so bad.

But now you’re actually taking education in a different direction, and you’re talking about people like Everett Piper?  Dr. Piper is being one of the undersecretary of the Department of Education.  Are you kidding?

What a change this is.  We could spend the rest of this time just going through the appointments, and the under secretary appointments. Trump has 4,000 appointments, and we’re looking at this.  This seriously is draining the swamp.  He’s actually firing people who have insubordination or should have been gone long ago.  It’s just great news to see.

Rick:

It’s such a breath of fresh air. For so long it was just disappointment, after disappointment, after disappointment. Now it’s surprise, after surprise, positive surprises. We’ll be right back.  You’re listening to WallBuilders Live!

DVD On Common Core

David:

Hi, friends! This is David Barton of WallBuilders. The current condition of education in America is abysmal. Not only is educational achievement plummeting, but every year, some 19 percent of high school seniors who graduate is completely illiterate. They can’t read at all but it was not always this way.

For generations, we taught students how to think. But after the progressives took over education in the early 20th century, things began to radically change. Education shifted from thinking to learning, which made the emphasis on the teachers rather than the students. And that elevated indoctrination above knowledge.

At that time, progressives also made massive changes in the way we tested students. They extended school from 8 to 12 years. They introduced graded education and they added compulsory education. Statistics prove that these changes have harmed education rather than helped it. And now the progressives are pushing common core.

In our new DVD on common core, we give you eight reasons why this current approach is so dangerous to our kids and our culture. We also show you an amazing history of education. So get this new DVD at WallBuilders.com.

What’s Happening Is Very Surreal

Rick:

We’re back.  Thanks for staying with us on this Good News Friday. David and Tim have already kind of set the table for us. Lots of great stuff coming out of the appointments and the Trump administration. You guys have got more to share than we’ve have time to share, but jump in.

Tim:

Well, let me point out that some of the things my dad mentioned.  This is some of the stuff that there are certainly media outlets covering.  I’m sure buried in our stack there are articles that cover some of this content.  There’s just so much going on that actually, the first article I’m going to share is going back to the White House.

It’s interesting that these first several articles are really just surrounding the action in D.C.  It’s a unique place.  I never thought I would be in a place, first of all, that Donald Trump was our president.  It seems stranger than fiction.  Much less, would I think that I would be in a place that I’m thanking God for Donald Trump as my president.  I mean it’s just so bizarre.

Rick:

It is surreal.

Tim:

But one of the things that President Trump shared his Twitter feed, and this is something that certainly is very unusual that we’ve seen the White House over the last many years.

There was a photo sharing on President Trump’s Twitter feed and it showed Trump, his two eldest sons, Vice-President Pence and his wife, Karen, Reince Priebus, Justice Scalia’s widow, Maureen, and son, Father Paul Scalia, among others, praying with nominee Neil Gorsuch and his wife Marie Louise, in the White House.

This was shared on the president’s Twitter feed that they’re having a prayer meeting over this soon to be Senate confirmation hearings going on for the next Supreme Court justice. But the president is sharing with the public that they are praying. Very different.

Rick:

That is surreal. We would have hoped and prayed for that type of moment, for years. Now it’s happening.  It’s kind of like Peter knocking on the door and everybody’s been hoping that God would release them from jail but they don’t believe that their out, right?

Does The Country Really Want Sanctuary Cities?

David:

“That can’t be happening. I’m going to shut the door and go on back.”

“No, really, this is the real deal.” It’s pretty crazy to see, but certainly a great piece of news on this Friday.

David:

I’ve got some more that goes in that same kind of direction. What Trump has done with the immigration ban, with sanctuary cities, and etc, there is such a blow back of that in the national media.

Let’s just take sanctuary cities for a minute.  Those are cities that have said, “Hey, we’re going to accept anybody on immigration.  I don’t care what the laws are.  We are taking them in.” What states do you think would really be supportive of sanctuary cities?

Rick:

Probably California and-

David:

Ok, wait, stop right there. California, I have in my hand a poll that says that 74 %of Californians want to end sanctuary cities.

Rick:

Whoa, 74 percent of California.?

Tim:

Of California, Bro!

David:

Of California.  Now, what would that be in Mississippi or Alabama or Louisiana or Texas?

Tim:

I would venture to say that there is a famous individual in political history who once said, “The problem with socialism is you run out of other people’s money.” I think in California they’re going, “Wait a second, we’re running out of money, quit giving it away.” Because California is certainly having struggles.   But even California is recognizing that this isn’t what we want to do which is pretty remarkable.

The Immigration Ban Isn’t What You Were Told

David:

And even related to this thing of immigration and sanctuary cities, obviously, he did the ban on Muslim refugees coming in until you get a higher screening on them. He did not ban Muslim refugees. By the way, he did not ban Christian refugees on that thing. He banned Muslim refugees until you get a higher level of screening. “Let’s make sure terrorists aren’t coming. We’re not worried about the Christians who come in.  We’re worried about the Muslim terrorists coming in.”

With that, it’s interesting that in New York City, Mayor de Blasio comes out and blasts Trump for that. This is his tweet.  He says, “We are a country founded on the belief of religious pluralism and equality. Today the president said a shamefully different message.”

Wait a minute.  Ae you the same mayor who is saying that Chick-Fil-A can’t come in to New York City because they have Christian beliefs?

Rick:

Good point.

David:

Are you banning groups from coming in because of their religious beliefs, de Blasio? I mean, the hypocrisy of the left of this thing is really funny.

Tim:

And didn’t he say that people from New York couldn’t travel to certain states because-

David:

That was Cuomo.

Tim:

Oh, so, still from New York.

David:

Still from New York.

Tim:

From New York where Governor Cuomo says, “Hey, you can’t travel to states that believe that we should protect girls in bathrooms, that believe marriage is one man and one woman, that have these boundaries on human sexuality. So we’re going to limit that. But, we don’t think we should have any kind of limitations on Muslims.”

Let’s cover a New York stance. You know I understand a little bit more when Ted Cruz talked about New York values. If that’s the New York values.

Rick:

No doubt.

David:

That’s right.

Rick:

Alright, we are going take a quick break. We’ll be right back with more good news.

American History

This is Tim Barton from WallBuilders with another moment from American history. Many today wrongly claim that our Founding Fathers were largely atheists, agnostics, and deist.

Certainly, some Founders were less religious than others, but even they were not irreligious. Consider Benjamin Franklin, definitely one of the least religious among them, yet, when the delegates at the Constitutional Convention hit an impasse in their deliberations it was Franklin who called them to prayer, invoking numerous scriptures to make his point.

As he reminded them, “God governs in the affairs of men. If a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured in the sacred writings that, except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this.”

So, even the least religious of America’s Founders urged public prayer in dependence on God. For more information about the faith of the Founding Fathers go to WallBuilders.com.

Why Gorsuch Is A Great Choice

Rick:

Welcome back to WallBuilders Live, Good News Friday today. Tim Barton is up with some good news, Tim.

Tim:

Yeah, this one is related to Judge Gorsuch, the Supreme Court nomination.  And certainly, this was a big deal when people were voting for Trump when a lot of Christian evangelical conservatives jumped on the bandwagon.  Part of the reason that many of us did that was related to the Supreme Court. Whether it be the issue of life, or marriage, or religious liberty, things that are very significant to our faith and values. So the hope and prayer was that Trump was going to appoint someone of said values to the Supreme Court.  And it certainly looks like he did with Gorsuch.

But what’s really neat is Kelly Shackelford from First Liberty.  And we have guys from First Liberty on the program it seems like all the time, but really these are the guys that deal with and defend religious liberty. If someone, whether it’s a teacher, a student, military, a business owner, or a baker, or whatever, they’re the ones that defend that religious liberty those rights of conscience.

Well, Kelly Shackelford came out and praised Gorsuch saying that we got a really solid guy on religious freedom just looking at his record. He goes back to the HHS abortion pill mandate, where Judge Gorsuch wrote and joined opinion supporting the right of ministries and closely held family businesses to be free from the burden imposed by the HHS abortion pill mandate, related to Hobby Lobby, Little Sisters of the Poor, etc.

The same thing with the establishment clause that Judge Gorsuch wrote or signed opinions upholding the constitutionality of the public display of the Ten Commandments Monument.

It’s What The Constitution Says That Matters

He goes through these lists of several things where Judge Gorsuch was in the exact right position even though seemingly at times in the minority of other justices. But when you start looking at his record there’s a lot of things he’s done in favor of rights of conscience religious liberty. So this really does look like this can be a great appointment.

As we’re talking about good news on this Friday.  This could be a great piece of good news down the road.  Judge Gorsuch does stay consistent with his previous decisions.  But this is something that Kelly’s geographer from First Liberty thinks that this is a really good pick which makes me feel a whole lot better about it.

David:

And some of the other legal scholars point out some other things that’s good about Gorsuch. There are several that I really like with the guy, not the least of which is that so many conservative judges appointed by Reagan, and those appointed by Bush 43, etc.  They tend to be pro-government in their positions.  Therefore, if you are challenging a school district they tend to say, “Well, the school districts you defer to them” and they defer to government.

Gorsuch just does not do that, which is really good.  He defers to the Constitution. So, for example, as government regulations are being challenged, in Gorsuch court, where he’s been presiding judge, he says, “Look, I don’t care if it is a government regulation.  The regulatory agency didn’t have the power to pass it.  It should have come through Congress.  And if it’s not a law that came through Congress the regulatory agency doesn’t have the constitutional authority to pass it.”  Wow, now that is really cool.

If you have someone who’s not going to defer to the government just because it is the government, but who says, “It’s what the Constitution says that matters.”  So in several of these areas of administrative law, regulatory law, and freedom and rights, he’s really really good on the Constitution.

Which is a great opportunity for us to get an original intent justice in there who not only will be right on the values but be right on the Constitution and the size and growth of government which would be really good.

They Now Have To Pay For Their Christian Persecution

Rick:

Of all the good news that last year we were hoping we would be talking about this year in 2017, it was Supreme Court justices. We talked over and had many guests on how important that was in terms of the presidential election.

Even within that presidential election, we knew there was a chance we might get a mediocre justice, possibly even get a bad justice.  We couldn’t guarantee anything. And now, to have him nominated, to see the reviews coming out from people we trust, people we know, that are looking closely at these opinions, this may be the best news we’ve shared so far in 2017. This is this is big.

Tim:

Let me read another one here real quick, related to this issue of religious liberty, rights of conscience, that we’re talking about potentially Supreme Court justice Judge Gorsuch.  This is something a piece of good news that came out of Georgia just recently.

First liberty, as we mentioned Kelly Shackelford just moments ago, First Liberty is the one that represented this case. But there is a pastor Dr. Eric Walsch around in Atlanta, Georgia and he was hired to be part of the Department of Public Health.  And so he’s working for the Department of Public Health and somebody in the Department of Public-

David:

And they loved his health credentials. I mean, what he did as a science professional in the health area, they really liked him and they hired him because of his health credentials.

Tim:

Because he had a great resume.

David:

That’s right.

Hopefully, This Will Set A Precedent

Tim:

And then someone found out, “Hey, this guy is a pastor.”  So they said we want you to deliver all of the sermons that you’ve preached over the last X number of years and we want you to turn those in.”

So, he gathers up sermon.  He turns them in. The next day he finds out that he’s been fired, literally the next day, the day after he turned them in. So they read it and go, “Oh, this guy is not good. Forget his credentials.”-

David:

And his health credentials-

Tim:

No, it wasn’t his credentials, forget his resume, this guy has a religious position whether it be marriage to man and woman or we believe gender is a male and female that God created.  This guy has things we don’t agree with so he gets fired.

So, First Liberty represents him, and finally, the decision came down that the city decided to settle instead of prolonging this. They settled for almost a quarter of a million dollars, which is really, I mean seemingly that to me it seems like a lot of money.  I guess, perspective for Atlanta that might not be as much money.

David:

Yeah, Atlanta people say, “Oh no big deal, the taxpayers will take care of this.” Now, if this were a city in a smaller town or a different state, yeah this would probably be a deterrent. Public officials would never again make this kind of stupid decision.  Now, in Atlanta, I don’t know.  We’ll see.

Tim:

But if the precedent is a quarter million dollars that could be a big deal for most cities. Because in most cities’ budget, they’re not bringing in a quarter million dollars in taxes that week. But nonetheless, it is great news that the city of Atlanta realized, “Hey, we’re at fault here. We’re not in a position that we can really fight and contend this. You know what, we’re going to settle with you guys.”

So it’s great news that they recognize they were wrong and hopefully this sets a great precedent going forward for other cities to go, “Hey, we can’t fire someone because they believe what the Bible says if their credentials are good in other places. And so really this is good president going forward.

Rick:

More religious liberty good news. Alright,  folks, we’re going to have more good news when we come back. Stay with us.  Taking a quick break.  Stay with us on WallBuilders Live.

Poland Respects Our Heros

Rick:

Welcome back.  Thanks for staying with us here on WallBuilders Live.  Good News Friday today. We’ve got about five minutes guys.  How much good news can you squeeze in here, David?

Rick:

Well, we got a lot to squeeze in. I’m going to Poland here for a little bit. In a few weeks, I’m going to be in Poland meeting with the leaders of Poland. Poland, my gosh, are they headed in a radically good direction.

So often when you get the conservative, religious folks in office they kind of just stop the flow in the wrong direction. These guys have turned it back in the right direction.  They’re determined to go back to good principles.

So we’ll be in Poland.  And the way that they deal with the Holocaust there is so different from here. We’ve covered in previous programs how this started in 2014.  You had coming out of the College Board and there’s this thing of, “America is really, really terrible.”

So at 2014 they came up with these standards and said, “Well, we’re not going to teach the Holocaust anymore, not about Hitler or Nazis.  We’re going to teach how bad America was in World War II and not anybody else.”

Just the opposite in Poland. As you fly into Poland now, as you as you come into Poland, what they do is they hand out books in Poland to those flying in that have information on the heroes from Poland who saved the lives of Jews during the Holocaust.

They’re called the Righteous Among the Nations of the Gentiles who stood up for the Jews.  And so amazingly here you have this nation saying, “Look what our nation did to help stop the Naziism. Look what they did to save the lives of those who were being attacked.”

Of course, for Poland. they were right in the middle of World War II geographically.  Whereas we were in the middle of World War II, but we were across the ocean but we had our guys there. But what a wonderful thing to see that they’re starting to teach history and teach it in a positive way to show the heroes that stood up in the Holocaust, something that America is not doing.

Tim:

Well, speaking of Israel, let me throw out another good news piece. Or at least, I guess Holocaust,  Jews, but that at least leads me to Israel. And this is something that that has been going on for a while whether it be discussions among Christian conservatives, even we’ve seen in Congress.

Well, this is something Trump has now said that he is wanting to see the embassy transferred from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. And this is the big deal because Christians have been asking for this for I don’t know how long, longer than I can remember and so it’s a couple of decades anyway.

But what’s interesting about it is there’s an article I have here and it talks about that Jerusalem is the capital of the state of Israel according to Israeli law. So, if it’s already the capital aren’t we supposed to have our embassy relatively close to the capital of whatever that nation is?

Good News For Israel

David:

Now, nobody has their embassy in Washington, D.C.  Look at all the foreign nations there’s not a single embassy in Washington, D.C.—

Nope, everybody does.

Tim:

I’m pretty sure, when you go to the Capitol- it’s also interesting because this points out that the U.S. Congress recognized that Jerusalem was the capital of the state of Israel in special legislation, and so we’ve already recognized this. We just have yet to have the embassy moved.

Now Trump is saying, “Hey, we recognize that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and we’re going to work on moving this. And it’s interesting because this article and there were several interviews whether it be ministers of different Israeli aspects of government.  But this one is Jerusalem mayor, and he said that Trump has proven that he is a true friend of the state of Israel who keeps his electoral promises.

So Israel is going, “We’re excited about this guy.  He’s a friend.  He’s going to do what he said.” But this is really exciting news for Christians that now we’re talking about moving that embassy into Jerusalem, the capital of Israel which is long overdue.

Rick:

Do you think he meant anything by that fact that it’s an elected official that keeps his promises? Was there any background- Yeah, I’m thinking so.

David:

Specifically,  in this case, there is because federal law has required the embassy to be moved Jerusalem years and years and years ago. And presidents have been unwilling to do with the federal law requires.

Rick:

Well, I was taking a cheap shot at our former president who talked like he was a friend of Israel but often under the table was really hurtful.

David:

Well, but I’ll even go to George W. Bush who was a friend of Israel but who said, “I’m not going to move the embassy, despite the federal law.” So we’ve had this- certainly we’ve had Obama who is not a friend of Israel and on his way out the door took a massive shot at them which may result in war in the Middle East as a result of what he did to the United Nations U.S. led initiative that may produce a war over there.  Depends on how it’s handled.  Trump and Netanyahu will have their hands full.

But even under President Bush, we had the law in place and President Bush would not follow it. So the fact that we now have Trump saying, “We’ll, I’ll follow that law and I’m going to do it.” I know that military advisors have been telling him, “Don’t follow the law because it could create turmoil over it.” Israel wants a law to follow it, we should follow the law” And I think you’ll probably see it happen in this administration.

Rick:

Folks, we didn’t even get close to all the good news that David, Tim had for you today.  So make sure you tune in next Friday for more good news. You’ve been listening to WallBuilders Live!
