Faith and the Culture

Rick:

Welcome to the intersection of faith and the culture. This is WallBuilders Live, where we’re taking on today’s hottest topics, everything on policy, faith, the culture, the elections, you name it. We’re looking at those issues from a biblical, historical, and constitutional perspective. We’re glad you’re here with us.

My name is Rick Green. I’m a former Texas legislator and America’s Constitution coach. And normally, I’m gathered right here on the air with David Barton, America’s premier historian and our founder at WallBuilders, along with Tim Barton, national speaker and pastor and president of WallBuilders.

But today, we’re going to actually take you to Georgia for our barnstorming tour where David and Tim and myself, along with former Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, Congressman Jody Hice, Congressman Barry Loudermilk, Brad Stein, Kirk Cameron, Charlie Kirk, all kinds of folks we gathered together for this barnstorming Georgia weekend.

We did seven events across the state, encouraging Christians to be biblical citizens, not just in this Georgia run off with the two US Senate seats that really are going to determine what our national government does over the next two years, so vitally, vitally important and encouraging all Christian voters in Georgia to vote in this runoff.

But it was about so much more than that. It was about being a biblical citizen, not just in one election, but all the time. And not just in elections, but also in how we treat our neighbors, how we meet the needs in our community, how do we stand for truth. Do we speak truth? Do we speak biblical principles into our culture? All of those things, we talked about all of that, and we had an absolutely great time. It was wonderful fellowship. People came from all over and truly enjoyed the events.

And honestly, I think there’s going to be a ton of biblical citizenship classes that are going to happen as a result of that tour last weekend. And those classes will happen, not only in Georgia, but across the country, and super excited about that. You know, we’re up to about 4,000 Constitution coaches out there all over the country, teaching people about the founding documents of America.

ConstitutionCoach.com

They use our Constitution Alive! course, which David Barton, And, I teach in Independence Hall and in the WallBuilders library and we’ve got all kinds of new material being added to that.

So I want you to start thinking about what you can do to be the catalyst for a restoration of biblical values and constitutional principles, a restoration of that right there in your community. Wherever you are, whether you’re in a red state, blue state, purple state, whatever, wherever you are, I guarantee you there are Christians, there are patriots, there are God-fearing, constitution-loving, freedom-loving people right there where you are that want to know truth. And our courses help you to teach that. You don’t have to be an expert on any of this. We bring you all of that expertise, and we do it in a fun entertaining way.

So, I really want to encourage you today to check out constitutioncoach.com and consider becoming one of our Constitution coaches, and hosting these biblical citizenship classes, in your church, in your home, in your local library, wherever you can online, on Zoom, you name it, there’s all kinds of avenues. But the key is getting your fellow citizens together, learning what the formula is for freedom, and learning what you can do to take action. ConstitutionCoach.com today if you want to sign up and become one of our coaches.

So back to this barnstorming event in Georgia, we had, as I said, a tremendous time, people got excited, they’re taking action. It was really, really cool thing to do, and I really enjoyed getting to hear from the speakers. In fact, I just kind of emcee the thing, I didn’t even really give a speech or anything. But I got to emcee and just have the chance to hear from David and from Tim, they both gave great presentations, Barry Loudermilk, all these folks.

And we want to share that with you. And we’ve given a little bit of that earlier this week. We gave a little piece of it on a couple of days. We’re going to get more of that today. And so we’re going to take you back to Georgia to the barnstorming event.

Where Are the Men of Courage

Normally, we do an election update. There’s not a lot that happened in the last 24 hours. There’s some movement in some areas.

The biggest news was the day before that when the Supreme Court rejected the injunctive relief for the Pennsylvania case, which as I said yesterday, I think is a terrible sign. But at the same time, the Texas case that was filed is gaining steam. I think, there’s 17 other states now asking the Supreme Court to take on that case, and to write these wrongs, to uphold the Constitution, uphold the rule of law. And I pray the court does that. You know, our courts have failed us miserably in 2020.

The court has over the last few decades has been doing things it was never designed to do the Constitution never gives it authority to do. The people have never given the courts authority to make policy, yet they’ve done that. They’ve done all kinds of things gotten into business they should have never been involved in.

And yet, here we had this year, the one thing they’re supposed to do defend the Constitution and defend your constitutional rights and they’ve refused to do that with these COVID dictators across the country. And they’ve refused to do it with the election, rewriting of the election process without the legislature involved.

The courts need to uphold the Constitution. They need to uphold the legislature’s power, the state legislature’s power to decide how elections are going to take place. That’s very clearly designed an Article 1 Section 4 of the Constitution, and then also that the legislature decides how the electors for the presidential race will be determined.

That’s Article 2 Section 1 that you’ve been hearing an awful lot about. But then also Article 1 Section 4, The Guarantee Clause that every state will be a republic, the court has got to defend that, and we have prevented states from being a republic all year long, as we’ve allowed these governors to be dictators.

Saving Our Republic

We prevented, we have not been a republic, whenever the Secretary of State and the governor rewrite the election law at the last minute in order to help their team. So there are plenty of ways that the court can do their job in defending the Constitution, and right the wrongs of this year. And that’s what all these states are asking for. So that’s probably the biggest news of the last 24 hours is simply this. So many states are jumping on board with Attorney General Ken Paxton’s case out of Texas, where he’s suing several of these states that that did that.

So we’ll keep our eyes on that, we’ll give you more of an update on that tomorrow. We’re going to take a quick break. When we come back, we will be joining the barnstorming Georgia tour and letting you partake in that wonderful weekend that we had in Georgia. Stay with us, you’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

The American Story

Hey, guys, we want to let you know about a new resource we have at WallBuilders called The American Story. For so many years, people have asked us to do a history book to help tell more of the story that’s just not known or not told today. And we would say very providentially in the midst of all of the new attacks coming out against America, whether it be from things like the 1619 project that say America is evil and everything in America was built off slavery.

Which is certainly not true or things like even the Black Lives Matter movement, the organization itself, not out of statement, Black Lives Matter, but the organization that says we’re against everything that America was built on, and this is part of the Marxist ideology. There’s so many things attacking America.

Well, is America worth defending? What is the true story of America? We actually have written and told that story. Starting with Christopher Columbus, going roughly through Abraham Lincoln, we tell the story of America, not as the story of a perfect nation or a perfect people, but the story of how God used these imperfect people and did great things through this nation. It’s a story you want to check out wallbuilder.com, The American Story.

Rick:

Welcome back to WallBuilders Live. As I said, going into the break, we’re going to pick up where we left off the other day on our Georgia barnstorming tour. And now, we’ve given you a little pieces of that throughout the week, you can get those at our website, wallbuilderslive.com, the archive section there, and that’s also the place you can make a donation.

We certainly appreciate you helping us to speak truth, not only to find that truth, we seek truth, but then we speak it and we stand for and you can help us do that by making a contribution at wallbuilderslive.com. Here we go. Let’s head out to the Georgia barnstorming events of last weekend.

American Christians

David:

80% of Christians believe that you can get to heaven other than through Christianity, which is interesting, because the central tenet of Christianity is Jesus Christ is the way you get to heaven. That’s why God sent His Son. We also know that Christians 42% believe that a belief in atheism will get you to heaven.

Now, I’m not sure why they believe that, atheist doesn’t believe in God, so how’s he going to spend eternity with God if he doesn’t believe there is a God? And yet 42% of Christians believe that atheists get to heaven. Actually, 56% of Christians believe that a belief in any religion will get you to heaven.

And because Christians believe that there’s nothing special about Christianity, is why over the last 20 years, we have seen Christianity plummets down from 85% of Americans professing Christianity down to 65% because we don’t think there’s absolute truth in religion. We have the same thing, not only with religion, but also with the government.

That’s why Marxism is a great idea. 1619 project is affiliated with Antifa, Marxism. I mean, those are the violin guys. They say they’re anti-Marxist and yet what they’re doing is very Marxist. It’s a strange thing that’s going on.

You have the same thing with education. What we do in education now, we just create our own truth as we go along. We do the same thing when it gets to morals. We definitely do that with history, we canceling history we disagree with. We don’t want to look at it. As Tim said, we don’t even want to put the history of slavery in perspective with where it is with other nations.

You have the same thing with science. We can look at all sorts of science results, and come up with opposite conclusions depending on what our political beliefs are because we’ve got agendas we need to move forward.

We have the same thing with economics, which is why so many people think socialism is good way to go. It’s never worked in the history of the world, 5,800 years. Yeah, but America has never tried it before.

Socialism

Will America’s going to get the same result everybody else did. But right now, 75% of students in college think socialism is good way to go. 69% Millennials and 42% of all Americans support socialism. So we’re going into areas that have never worked before. But again, we don’t think there’s any absolute truth, we just kind of make it up the same with ethics. So when you look at all these different areas where we’re kind of making our own truth, what happens is truth in fact, is given away to personal opinion.

Now, I want to take you to a scripture that talks about, I think, where we’re living right now. There’s a passage in First Thessalonians in chapter two, I’m going to show you verses 10-12. But verses 1-12, it talks about a conflict that goes on between the man of lawlessness and the man of truth. And so it’s lawlessness versus truth, which is kind of where we are today. I’ll make my own laws, I’ll do my own thing versus absolute truth. And in verse 10, 11, and 12, it’s interesting to see a sequence that goes here. The man of lawlessness has his effect, and people finally say, well, I don’t believe there’s any truth.

And so in verse 10, it says, they did not receive the love of the truth, because they did not love the truth. They love choosing their own way more than the truth, they did not receive the love of the truth. For this reason, God will send them strong delusion. So you don’t love the truth, you get into delusion, and it says that they will believe a lie. So once you get into a delusion, you believe the lie. And verse 12 says that all might be damned who believe not the truth. Now, damned as the King James word for judged or condemned.

So but notice the sequence here, what happens is, if you don’t love or if you reject the truth, the next thing that happens is a delusion will enter. Once a delusion will enter, you will believe a lie. And once you believe a lie, you’ll begin acting on that lie, and once you do, there’s high costs and consequences to that. Let me just give you one example. I’m taking the area of science for just a moment.

Objective Truth

Science has a number of things within science and number of laws. One of those laws is the law of gravity. It is the law of gravity.

It is not a personal opinion of anybody, it is a law. And in science, you have laws, you have axioms, you have theorems, you have principles, but law means it has never once been violated ever throughout history. If it’s ever been violated, even once, it will no longer be a law, it will fall to an axiom, a theorem, or principle.

So a law of science means it’s never violated ever. Under no circumstances, no conditions, it will ever be violated. So the law of gravity, that’s what it means now.

But however, I heard President Trump back to the republican convention say it’s time for us to put an American on Mars, and we need to put a woman on the moon. So I think about all the we’ve done, Space Race, Tim and I, Rick, last week, we’re with one of the Moonwalkers, Charlie Duke, the youngest man ever to walk on the moon.

Man, talking to him about what it’s like to be on the moon and be in space and what they did, it was just amazing stuff. He was telling us that what we have in our smartphones today, there’s more technology in smartphone than they had an all the rooms of computers that they used to put a man on the moon, Apollo. And that’s just mind blowing that we have that much technology available to us compared to what they did back then.

So with all that we have, I’m not sure that gravity now has the same impact that it’s always had. Because we can do so much more, technology’s so advanced. So I really… What’s that? We’re canceling gravity. I reject the concept of gravity. Here’s the deal.

The Dangers of Rejecting Truth

Once I reject any truth, no matter what it is, no matter what reasons I have for rejecting it, once I reject any truth, at that point in time, I say alright, there’s no law of gravity, which means the law of gravity doesn’t affect me. And if law of gravity doesn’t affect me, the next step is, well, I can do what I want.

And one of the things I’ve always wanted to do is be able to jump off a building and soar. And so I am going to jump off a building and I am going to soar all the way to my death when I splat on the sidewalk below. So what happens is, I will end up dying. But see, here’s the sequence. What happens, I reject the truth, a delusion enters.

I believed a lie, I act on a lie, there’s a high cost and consequence. This happens every time and it doesn’t matter whether it’s a big lie, or a little lie. Doesn’t matter how sincere I am about my beliefs. I sincerely believe that if I jump off a building, I’m not going to hit the sidewalk. I’m sincerely wrong. But I sincerely believe that. It really does not matter what my personal truth is, because there is objective truth in every area.

And so we’re into this thing of making our own truth or here’s what I believe, or 1619, we’ll just make up truth as we go along. Whatever it is, we can do that. And again, it does not matter how big the law lie is. Little lie, big lie, it has the same impact to some degree. To that degree, it lessens our life and lessens our ability to handle truth. So within that, love of the truth is the most important thing.

Now, and loving the truth for Christian is pretty easy to know where truth is. We’re told in John 17:17, Scripture says “Sanctify them by the truth, your word is truth.” So God’s Word, that’s where we get absolute truth in so many areas.

Whether it’s an economics or morality, or government or personal life or marriage or anything else, that’s where absolute truth is. We’re also told in John 14:6, Jesus says, I’m the way, the truth and the life. So we have truth to the person of Jesus Christ.

We Need God’s Word

So for Christians, we know God’s word and the person of Jesus Christ, that’s two good starting places for truth. The difficulty is we don’t seem to go there very often. When you look at where we are the Bible reading right now, polling tells us right now, only 9% of Christians read the Bible on a daily basis.

Now, the Bible is a source of truth and nobody’s getting into it. Guess what? We’re believing all sorts of things that aren’t true, whether we recognize it or not. We may not be aware that it’s not true. But sometime when we jump off a building down the sidewalk below, we’ll find out, figuratively speaking.

So what happens is we don’t recognize that. As a result, this is why only 6% of Americans they have a biblical worldview. Only one out of 16 Americans actually sees things the way God sees things. And again, remember God gives us guidelines for every aspect of life: 613 civil laws he gave him the Bible.

It’s everything from economics through military through immigration through whatever, only one out of 16 Americans actually sees those issues the way that God sees them. So we really are in a difficult situation. We can yell all we want to about the progressive Left, but you know what, the Right’s got to get its act together as well. We have to actually know what’s right and wrong and where things are.

So this is where we get to the supremacy of personal opinion. So just it’s kind of a challenge, love of the truth is super important. You got to have a love of the truth. You got to make up your mind that no matter if that truth hurts, for me to accept it, no matter if it’s really contradictory to everything I’ve been taught.

Learning to Love Truth

It’s just got to learn to love the truth. Even if it causes you to have to change the way you really didn’t want to change, you got to conform your life with the truth. So whenever you find truth, just be willing to accept it, as difficult as it may be conformed to it, because you’re going to be blessed as a result.

But here’s something we haven’t had to do in America before, at least not in recent generations. You now have to find the truth. And finding the truth is a lot of hard work. See, if you find the truth, if you go to the 1619 curriculum, and by the way, the 1619 curriculum is in use in all 50 states today, their schools is in all 50 states teaching the 1619 curriculum.

It is not based on truth. You probably haven’t heard the story of Wentworth Cheswell, the black men elected to office or of what you saw there, James Armistead, the first double spy, or the story of Jack Sisson, who may be the first SEAL Team operative in America. Essentially, like a SEAL team, he’s a black man in 1778, the incredible mission he entered.

See, you didn’t get that when you went through history. You didn’t you didn’t get all the slavery that was in the world that America was not one of the great offenders in slavery. We didn’t get. It means, you have to dig it out for your own now, because it’s not in textbooks anymore. It’s not even being taught even in conservative circles, because we don’t know where to teach it.

Which means it’s going to be a lot of hard work to go back and check all these things that I’m hearing. I hear something. How do I know it’s true or not? Well, I’ve got to go find out. So finding truth is now a new thing for us to develop. That’s not something we’ve had to do. We’ve had good, we trust the people around us. Surely, they wouldn’t lie to me deliberately. We just coasted for a long time on good intentions. You can’t do that anymore.

So Much Misinformation

There’s so much misinformation out there. Now, you’re going to have to spend the time and the effort to go dig out the truth. And then what you do, the third thing you have to do is you going to have to defend the truth. And this requires courage.

Now, this is where it gets difficult on the courage side. Because we know that right now, recent polling says that 77% of conservative Americans now self-censor due to the climate. So what happens is, even for those that have a biblical worldview, a conservative worldview, three out of four don’t say anything, because they know that they do, they’re going to get attacked in some way.

So in order to stay comfortable, because it’s very uncomfortable getting attacked, in order to stay comfortable, we don’t defend the truth anymore, we just go silent on it. And if you go silent on it, then other people who don’t hear that side will think that the other side is true. And the other side gains strength and gains momentum because we’re not saying anything to counter that argument.

Now, there’s an interesting thing. When you look at the scriptures, it teaches us about happened, but it also teaches us about health. Now, who is it that the Bible says is going to be in hell? Well, Revelation 21:8 has a great list. It says that all these people will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is a second death: Revelation 21. But who’s all these people that will be in the lake that burns with fire and suffer?

Well, that tells us, it’d be the faithless and the detestable and the murderers and the sexually immoral and the sorcerers and the idolaters and all sorts of liars, these are the people that are going to be in hell. I mean, these are the people violate everything God’s told us. Except, see that blank right there, what’s the one that fills in the blank?

People Need to Know

The word there, which is the first word in that verse, which is the word that starts the verse is the word, cowards. Interesting, more than murderers, more than sorcerers, more than those who practice immorality, will have their place in the lake of fire. That’s the first one on the list. So cowards, cowards are going to be the ones in the lake? Yeah, see, we got to get a backbone at some point in time. We’re going to have to stand up to…

The church, the pulpit, pastors, Christians, we’ve all been way too silent on things we know that are right and wrong, and as a result, a lot of people today don’t know what’s right and wrong anymore. They don’t hear a second voice. They don’t hear what’s going on. So there’s a whole lot there that deals with truth.

And so, what I’ll close with is truth. Our objective has to be to find truth, well actually to love truth, but then to find truth and then defend truth. We do that, we can start making a difference. But we got to do that, even in what’s going on right now, we don’t have the election yet decided and you guys have a second election coming up. That’s still a key thing, Rick.

Rick:

Wow. Alright, man! Charlie Kirk’s saying Barton’s too good, just tell him to keep going and I’ll skip. No, listen to Charlie is about to join us here on Zoom. If you guys haven’t figured it out yet, we’re not here tonight to say that voting in a Senate election is going to save the world. That is not the answer.

The Answer

The answer is to find the truth that these guys are talking about, to learn that truth and then live out that truth, and then downstream from living out that truth. You’ll vote right in elections will get better leaders and that’s what will turn our nation around. That’s what we’re here talking about tonight in terms of biblical citizenship.

Now, speaking of courage, this guy you see on the screen right here has an incredible backbone. He’s been speaking in churches and campuses all over the country speaking that truth, taking a lot of criticism when he does, and it doesn’t seem to bother him at all. Charlie, thank you so much for joining us tonight. Packed house here, talking about being biblical citizens, give them a good encouragement of why they should do that.

Charlie:

I appreciate you letting me come in via Zoom. I was actually in Georgia earlier this week, hosting big events for senator Perdue and Senator Loeffler and it seems like Georgia is the center of the political universe. I could listen to David Barton for the next couple hours, so I have to say I big admire and honored to be part of this.

Look, this is a very pivotal time for our country, and especially for Christians. I wanted to make sure I made time to participate in this for a variety different reasons, but also because I believe that we as believers really need to be stepping up right now. If you look at Georgia.

And you look at one of the reasons why the result was not in our favor, one of those reasons would obviously be voter fraud, and a lot of the shenanigans and probably crimes around that. But there’s another reason I think that the activist media hasn’t talked about. And that’s because Donald Trump’s Christian support faded by a couple points in Georgia.

The Need for Biblical Citizenship

And I would pin that on some pastors in the state of Georgia that did not do their job to correctly communicate the need for Biblical citizenship, what it means to actually defend the unborn, what it means to actually be involved in the Ecclesia, which Jesus Christ commanded us directly to be involved in the Ecclesia, which literally means public square.

And I’m not afraid to name any names. But Andy Stanley, for example, in Georgia, he probably played a big role and Joe Biden securing the electoral votes. And let’s just say that they did steal tens of thousands of votes. Well, if every Christian voted biblically in Georgia, then the voter fraud wouldn’t have been enough to even make up for it.

And so I’m very involved in the voter fraud fights, trust me, I’m not trying to diminish it. And that goes back to what David Barton was saying is we have to actually agree to have truth. What is actually true anymore? And when you see people hide boxes of ballots under a table, and we are told that is just the customary way of counting ballots.

I think we all know exactly what’s there. And so look, I think that we as Christians have to start to reclaim the mantle of what it means to actually be a citizen. Going back to the original Greek, citizen literally means co ruler. The Bible built Western civilization. It was literally the Bible that built our world.

And what is disappointing, and it should be a call to action for everyone in a fire alarm, in some sense, that Georgia being in the Bible belt, is kind of losing a sense of really what it means to participate in self-governance, to protect natural rights, and to actually have a government for and by the people. And so we have a great opportunity right now to kind of avenge some of the missteps that happened recently. In one way, that would be the senate run off. I will say this, and I’ve said this in all my speeches.

Let’s Not Fool Ourselves

One of the candidates was not my first choice, I was very critical of one of the candidates. But quite honestly, this is not even about whether or not this is a preference of your topper, one or two choice. They’re not Democrats, so they’re worthy of my support right now and they’ll caucus with Republicans, and they will not hand the keys of unified government to Joe Biden, if he becomes the President of the United States on January 20th, which looks like a scenario that is in the works.

And so it is a moral thing to do, to step up, to make sure that we take a defensive position. And I love the statement that segue to my remarks, which is this is not going to save the country. Let’s not fool ourselves. But them not winning, could end the country. So think of it that way. I’d love to take a couple questions, I know you said that’s a possibility. And I’m honored to participate tonight, so thank you.

Rick:

I’m going to ask you that question, Charlie, and that is you work with the young people of our country. A lot of folks feel like there’s no hope, the next generation doesn’t get it. You have a very different perspective because of what you’re doing out there with young people across the country.

Charlie:

I do and I think that most young people are not necessarily opposed to Christian conservative constitutionalist ideas, is that they’ve never been properly exposed to them at all in the first place. I go to college campuses, so you don’t have to. I received that death threats and get followed around by all the different intimidation squads that you can imagine.

Biblical Citizenship & Election Updates – Barnstorming Georgia!

But I think that we are called to go into the treacherous, dangerous and sometimes opposing environments. I find great joy in being out numbered 200:1 when I go to Brown University or Stanford or UCLA. It’s actually a lot more fun, no offense to all of you than just speaking to people that are generally in agreement. Because I look at people as the opportunity, not as the obstacle.

And I could tell you this, that with young people in this country, we are going to see a simultaneous convergence of multiple crises, and only a biblical worldview can solve these problems. We are on the verge of a population collapse. We are seeing 500,000 less babies being born this year than last year. We are on the verge of a class crisis, where many young people feels if the current economic system does not work for them.

Rick:

Alright, friends, we are at a time for today. We’re going to give you more Georgia barnstorming tomorrow, as well as more election updates. So thanks so much for listening today. Be sure and visit our websites, wallbuilders.com and also wallbuilderslive.com.
