Rick:

Welcome to the intersection of faith and the culture. It’s WallBuilders Live, we are taking on the hot topics of the day from a biblical, historical, and constitutional perspective. And we’re glad you’re here with us to do that.

My name is Rick Green. I’m a former Texas legislator and America’s Constitution coach. And I’m normally here with David Barton and Tim Barton, David’s America’s premier historian and our founder here at WallBuilders, and Tim Barton’s national speaker and pastor and president of WallBuilders. But today, we’re actually going to take you to where David and Tim are. Instead of them being in studio, we’re going out to the ProFamily Legislators Conference, great opportunity for legislators from across the nation to come together exchange ideas, hear from great speakers, have good fellowship, and then go back to their states and take those legislative ideas into their legislative sessions.

ProFamily Legislators Conference been going on for about 15 years now, has made an incredible difference. And many of you out there listening today have been supporters of that. So thanks for helping to make that happen. What we want to do is try to bring you some of those speakers that we have at the ProFamily Legislators Conference. Every year around this time, we bring you some of those best talks, and so we’ve got several of those that are going to happen over the next few weeks.

Today is going to be June hunt. June is an amazing radio host, just an incredible lady. Their whole ministry does exactly what we do here at WallBuilders in terms of applying biblical instruction to life’s issues. Now here at WallBuilders, we’re typically talking about biblical instruction on cultural issues, what’s happening in our neighborhoods, our states, our nation, how do we have a biblical worldview in terms of who we choose as our leaders in all of those different areas.

June covers every subject you can possibly imagine, whether it’s emotional, psychological, spiritual, financial, they do an amazing job at Hope for the Heart. And she came to share with the legislators at our ProFamily Legislators Conference, it was so good. We wanted to share it with you. You might recall, if you’re a longtime listener of WallBuilders Live, that this summer June came on, and did a couple of programs with us here at WallBuilders Live. We got her testimony was really cool. You can go into the archive section at wallbuilderslive.com to hear that. But let’s jump into her presentation at the ProFamily Legislators Conference. This is June Hunt.

ProFamily Legislators Conference

June:

Opening night when David Barton shared, I think it was David, I’m so impressed with the tag team Barton’s, the disturbing statistic that only 2.8% churches are addressing relevant contemporary issues. That’s 97.2 that are not of pastors, but other people around need help with how do I live in a way that’s right in God’s sight? And consequently, I’m going to share something that I don’t actually have material on. I’ve spoken on it.

But I’m going to ask, why would San Francisco, a school committee recommend that the name Abraham Lincoln be deleted from the high school? Think about it. Why would students at University Wisconsin Madison insist that the statue of Abraham Lincoln be removed? Number three. Why would protesters in Portland tear down the statue of President Lincoln as part of their Indigenous Peoples Day of Rage? Why would this icon Abraham Lincoln, my favorite president, all my life, be accused of being a racist when he was known worldwide for freeing slaves during the American Civil War, and in 1965, being assassinated for it? Why?

Because today one of the most venerated names in American history, Abraham Lincoln, is the victim of the Cancel Culture. How ironic since Abraham Lincoln is often voted the most admired President of the United States of America. So what is this cancel culture? This is a definition. An act of denouncing or withdrawing support for people or organizations after they have done something considered objectionable or offensive.

The Cancel Culture, actually, is an umbrella term for different acts displaying intolerance. Examples, belittling values of someone, blacklisting people, boycotting products, deplatforming speakers, either disinviting them, or saying no, you cannot invite the speaker, public shaming, social exclusion, character assassination, ruining reputations. I remember I kept hearing this thing about Abraham Lincoln, and by the way, I did check in the wee hours of this morning the High School in San Francisco has been closed, at least what I read on my phone indicated that it has not been opened up again yet or ever. My point is, what’s the reason? Why? Why Abraham Lincoln? What horrendous act did Abraham Lincoln commit to be part of the Cancel culture chopping block?

Alright, folks, we’re going to take a quick break. You’re listening to presentations at the ProFamily Legislators Conference here on WallBuilders Live. Stay with us, we’ll be right back.

AMERICAN HISTORY

This is Tim Barton from WallBuilders with another moment from American history. After the final victory at Yorktown, the Continental Army awaited the outcome of peace negotiations with the Great Britain. Pastor Israel Evans, a chaplain in the army proposed to George Washington that they build a structure where church services could be held during the month of waiting. Washington approved the plan and urged officers to ensure that the soldiers attended service.

Pastor Evans further knew if we were to secure the liberties they had fought for, sound education would be crucial. He declared, “Every parent and every friend of the freedom of his country ought to be attentive to the improvement of our youth in the principles of freedom and good government; and then the people will stand fast in their liberty for a long time.” Our schools today need to return to teaching the principles of freedom and good government in order for America to survive and prosper.

For more information about Pastor Israel Evans and other colonial patriots, go to wallbuilders.com.

June:

What horrendous acted Abraham Lincoln commit to be part of the Cancel Culture chopping block? He wasn’t cancelled for writing one of the world’s most celebrated speeches in the world, the Emancipation Proclamation freeing the slaves. The great emancipator was canceled for his perceived sins involving Native Americans. On the top of statue of Lincoln, spray painted in red were the words “Dakota 38”, it’s on the base in Portland, referring to court trials and execution of 38 Dakota Indians following a war called the United States Dakota War.

As described by Stanford Law Review, “The fighting began when a group of Dakota attacked the redwood agency. 13 Americans were killed.” I’m editing throughout. “7 more were killed while fleeing from the settlement. Dakota also attacked other settlers who had not yet taken shelter. Many were reported unarmed and taken by surprise; in most cases, the Dakota killed the men and took the women and children prisoners.”

Now, the native Indians saw themselves as fighting to defend their land and their people against the Westerners. And the court trials of these Indians seemed severely lacking in what is called due process of law which is very important to us. Over 300 were sentenced to death without having a fair opportunity to defend themselves. That was the concern and the issue.

Well, to Lincoln’s great critic, despite the burden of the Civil War, he personally reviewed hundreds of conviction cases and refused to authorize the vast minority of them. Eventually, he only signed 38 death sentences once he concluded that those defendants did receive a fair trial. Another criticism against Lincoln is that during his administration, there were land grabs, and times of mistreatment of the American Indians.

However, after Lincoln became aware of these injustices, and while fully occupied with the Civil War, he pledged to improve the treatment of Native Americans after the war. This was his quote. “If we get through the war and I live, this Indian system will be reformed.” However, as you know, he was assassinated only a few days after the war and never had the opportunity to fulfill his promise.

Now, think about it. There’s not one national hero who is faultless; everyone has chosen wrong; All we like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way, the Bible says. This is not new. That there’s no excuse for just drawing are defacing their statues for heroes. And there’s no excuse for abusing their reputation. So when should you be concerned about the Cancel Culture? Well, when it impacts someone you personally respect, in turn you and your values may be next. Realize any wrong decision in your own past can and possibly will be used against you to silence, to stop, to cancel you. The Bible says righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people. Well, in a way, since we’ve all sinned, we stand condemned. But that’s not the end of the story.

Rick:

AMERICAN STORY

Hey, guys, we want to let you know about a new resource we have at WallBuilders called The American Story. For so many years, people have asked us to do a history book to help tell more of the story that’s just not known or not told today.

And we would say very providentially in the midst of all of the new attacks coming out against America, whether it be from things like the 1619 project that say America is evil, and everything in America was built off slavery, which is certainly not true or things, like even the Black Lives Matter movement, the organization itself, not out the statement Black Lives Matter, but the organization that says we’re against everything that America was built on, and this is part of the Marxist ideology. There’s so many things attacking America.

Well, is America worth defending? What is the true story of America? We actually have written and told that story starting with Christopher Columbus, going roughly through Abraham Lincoln, we tell the story of America not as the story of a perfect nation of a perfect people. But the story of how God used these imperfect people and did great things through this nation. It’s a story you want to check out, wallbuilders.com, The American Story.

ProFamily Legislators Conference

June:

What’s the solution for the Cancel Culture? The good news: the Christian culture cancels the Cancel Culture. Yes. The Christian culture, that means Christ Himself, it centers on Christ. What did he do? Well, consider this. Now the Christian culture doesn’t focus on the past, it focuses on the future. What is God’s highest purpose for you? Have you ever been asked that? Are you clear about what your highest purpose is? If you’re truly an authentic Christian, it’ll be exciting. It’s found in Romans 8:29, write it down if you don’t know this. The Bible says you are predestined to be conformed to the likeness of His Son. You are predestined, he’s already figured out how he’s going to conform you to His character exists. It’s extraordinary because it’s his enablement. It’s his divine ability. His divine power has given you everything you need to live a godly life.

The Christian culture doesn’t focus on the guilt, but on the grace of God for you, for me, that we don’t deserve. That’s the extraordinary thing about grace. You know, it’s the amazing grace, that’s why it’s called amazing grace, not holding our sins against us but Jesus dying for our sins, paying the price we couldn’t pay. So Jesus is our shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep.

One of my favorite scriptures is Isaiah 43:18, “Forget the former things; Do not dwell on the past; see I’m doing a new thing. Now it springs up, do you not perceive it? I’m making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” Do we deserve that? No.

Candidly, I grew up in a very painful home. I did not speak. I didn’t have a friend for years. My dad had three families going on at the same time. I grew up with a fictitious last name until I was 13. We moved into dad’s house when I was 12. And I knew who he was, but you just don’t talk when you have bizarre backgrounds. I can tell you my mother was precious, my dad was double her age. But the pain that she had over her lifestyle, she would not allow herself to have a friend. I asked her mom, why did you not have a friend, all other kids had friends and you didn’t? She says oh honey, I would not ever allow myself to have a friend because I wouldn’t want to bring shame upon that friend.

She would make sure we went to a church. Unfortunately, it was not a biblically based church, but that’s what she grew up in the mainline denomination, so I knew no Bible until later. I can tell you, I’m very tender toward those who have chosen wrong, who’ve had painful pasts, who’ve been hurt in childhood, teenage years, whatever. But that’s not the end of the story. It’s Jesus. He is our Redeemer.

You know, I’ve had unusual situation. I was all of a sudden a sub for the Ethics and Religious Liberty commission. That’s a huge group at my church, and they bring in big name people to speak. And all of a sudden somebody couldn’t do it because of COVID. And these were lame name speakers. And so the lawyer who heads it up Yuri Bennett, he said, would you be a sub as… And then so how about transgender? Okay. I mean, I poured.

And so I knew one day we would have keys, but part of what I’m going to have is we were told lies, lies, and it’s terrible. Children, girls are having mastectomies, teenagers, and the parents can do nothing about it at times. Testicles are being removed. unbelievable things that it’s the government takes over and shuts out the parents, depending on what state you’re in. Come on, states, do your best to hear.

CONSTITUTION ALIVE!

You can find out more information on our website now at wallbuilders.com.

AMERICAN HISTORY

This is Tim Barton from Wallbuilders with another moment from American history. Founding Fathers John Adams and Thomas Jefferson originally worked closely together, but later became ardent opponents. This troubled Dr. Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration, who knew both of them very well.

In the Bible, 2nd Corinthians 5:18 tells us that God has given each of us the ministry of reconciliation. Dr. Rush believed this and set out to bring the two back together. It took a while but Adams and Jefferson once again became close friends. And looking back on his role in helping bring about this reconciliation, Dr. Rush stated “It will give me pleasure as long as I live to reflect that I have been in any degree instrumental and effectiveness for union of two souls destined to be dear to each other and motivated with the same dispositions to serve their country though in different ways.”

June:

A lie, after sex reassignment surgery does with new gender identity have a new purpose, have a zeal for life, and feel fulfilled. Really? Based on studies out of Sweden and these are not new, those was sex reassignment surgery 2.8 times more likely to have a psychiatric hospitalization, 4.9 times more likely to attempt suicide, and 19.1 times more likely to die of suicide. This is not helping anyone to deny the gender that God made them. We read in the first chapter of Genesis, God created human beings, male and female in His own image.

What about athletics? Okay, Canadian kinesiology, Dr. Linda Blade states that on average, male athletes are 40% heavier, 15% faster, 37% more powerful, and 25-50% stronger than their counterparts. Do you understand? The conclusion is in the Equality Act, biologically born males and females are not equal. They’re not equal at all. And so all these records that have been made, hard fought by and trained by female athletes, they’re wonderful world records setting, accomplishments are being demolished. Is that equal? Is that fair?

So we’ve got to speak the truth. Jesus said the truth sets you free, that we are transformed by the renewing of the mind. We need to learn how to think and how to answer the actual questions. I was told that we could be cancelled because we had material on abortion. We have material on homosexuality and same sex attraction. We have material on Islam.

In fact, our ministry suggesting maybe we just kind of don’t emphasize this because we were threatened on being canceled. I said, wait a minute. Now from the beginning, we have had this. No, we can’t. People, if they need our material, they need it. And we have to yield our will to the will of the Lord. He knows how to protect us. He knows what to do. And if we are canceled by whoever, we’re not permanently cancelled, not in our hearts, not in our lives. We speak the truth and love. And so thank you so much for the privilege of being able to share with you.

Rick:
