Good News From South Carolina

So we’re always going to be asking you to take action steps here on the program. Today we’re actually just going to be talking about a lot of other people that have taken action steps, some of the positive good news that has happened out there in the culture. It’s time to dive into that good news, and David’s up first David?

David:

We’re going to go to South Carolina, and South Carolina—and by the way, to do this perspective right on this story from South Carolina—remember last week, for those that heard on Good News Friday, there were several cases we pointed to that in the downstream effect of the Bladensburg case from two months ago in the U.S. Supreme Court, where the Supreme Court said, “€œIt’s OK to have a war memorial in the shape of a cross. By the way, if there’s been a religious activity or practice or display, we’re going to assume that’s constitutional rather than otherwise.”€Â

So they really shifted the burden of proof, so now this stuff is constitutional. The other side’s got to prove it’s not. So we looked last week and went through three significant cases—including things that never happened in my lifetime—where the courts have ruled in favor of religious liberty.

So, really good news.

Now, with that changing climate that’s out there, the other side is still very aggressive and wanting to be completely secular. No mention of God. You can’t even use those words in public in some cases. And so that takes us to South Carolina, the community known as Tega Cay.

I’ve been all over South Carolina.

I don’t know where that community is.

Religion Stands Strong

Nonetheless, in this city, there was a resident who saw what was called the fallen officers memorial outside the police department, and that fallen officers memorial—to fallen officers, obviously—contained a prayer. And when they saw that prayer, they complained about it to the city. They threatened a lawsuit, apparently, and the city said, “€œOh, we don’t want a lawsuit! Can’t get in a lawsuit.”€Â

So they went and, on this stone—and the stone is what has the fallen officers prayer—they painted over the word “€œLord”€ when it appeared.

And so in the Stone, you’ve now got this painted over even though still engraved in stone. It’s now painted over so doesn’t stand out.

Obviously a lot of its residents in the city complain and said, “€œWhoa! What do you think you”€™re doing? It’s engraved in stone.”€

Rick:

It”€™s like something out of the Old Testament, the New King takes over and just tears down the temples to the Lord. It”€™s just crazy.

David:

It is crazy. And so a lot of residents said, “€œNo, this is nuts. You’re not going to do this.”€

And the city council listened and they listened to both sides.

Let me read you the prayer that is on the fallen officers”€™ memorial. It mentions the word “€œLord”€ three times. So when I mentioned the word “€œLord”€, just see it painted over a block on the memorial. They tried to match the color to the to the memorial so it wouldn’t stand out, and it’s not like they painted just a blacked out block on top of red marble or something. They tried to match it.

Monument to Fallen Officers Keeps Prayer

So this is the prayer, it says, “€œLord, I asked for courage. Courage to face and conquer my own fears. Courage to take me where others will not go. As for strength, strength of body to protect others and strength of spirit to lead others. I ask for dedication, dedication to my job, to do it well. Dedication to my community to keep it safe. Give me, Lord, concern for those who trust me and compassion for those who need me. And please, Lord, through it, all be at my side.”€Â

Now, that was outside the police station on the fallen officers”€™ memorial. That’s the prayer that’s there. They painted out the word “€œLord”€ three times, except the residents said, “€œNo, no, no, no, no, no.”€Â

And now, again, in this new climate that”€™s come with the Supreme Court giving us a new standard, the city went back and said, “€œWe’re going to restore the word “€œLord.”€ in that memorial in all three places.”€

And so the good news is we have this public religious acknowledgment back in place in Tega Cay, South Carolina, which really is good news.

Rick:

Okay. Quick break guys. We’ll be back with more good news. Tim will have his first piece of good news for us when we come back. Stay with us. You’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

Moment From American History

This is Tim Barton from WallBuilders with another moment from American history. Alexis De Tocqueville, a political official from France, traveled to the United States in 1831 and penned his observations in the now famous book, “€œDemocracy In America.”€

Being from France, what he found in America was completely unexpected to him. He reported, “€œUpon my arrival in the United States, the religious aspect of the country was the first thing that struck my attention. And, the longer I stayed there the more I perceived the great political consequences resulting from this. In France I had almost always seen the spirit of religion and the spirit of freedom marching in opposite directions. But, in America I found that they were intimately united and that they reigned in common over the same country.”€

DeTocqueville recognized that it was Biblical Christianity and the morals it produced that made America great? For more information about Alexis Tocqueville and the positive influence of Christianity in early America go to WallBuilders.com.

Young Americans Against Socialism

Rick:

Welcome back to WallBuilders Live! Thanks for staying with us here today. David Barton has shared a little bit of good news, now Tim Barton’s up next. Tim?

Tim:

All right guys, this is a 22 year old from New York. Her name is Morgan Zingers and she founded an organization called Young Americans Against Socialism. Now, she actually did not go to school, and at least not College, in New York.

She went to Washington D.C..

I’m not sure it’s a ton better, but she went to American University—

David:

And we have a friend who’s a professor there, who may be the only conservative on campus, or at least he certainly is part of a very small group on campus.

Tim:

So I’m not sure it was much better going from one to the other, but she grew up a military brat. Her dad is U.S. Army Colonel arthur Zeigers the Fourth. He was a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and growing up, you can imagine she was fairly patriotic. In fact, she became the youngest known Officer in the States Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

I’m not totally sure what that does, nonetheless, she was a part of it. Youngest one elected there.

What’s really cool is the organization she founded, the Young Americans Against Socialism, the reason she did this and she says she saw so many people, piers really, who were embracing Socialism, and she wanted to make a difference.

A Failure of Education in America

Guys, we’ve talked about socialism on the program before. This article identifies in a Gallup poll that 58% of Americans ages 18 to 34 that think socialism is good for the country, which is why, when you look at Bernie Sanders, or Elizabeth Warren, or Alexanderia Occasio Cortez, they really do have fairly high favorability among GenZers and among millennials, which is that 18 to 34 range.

So this is where Morgan saw this and said, “€œI want to make a difference.”€Â

So she started an organization, and the idea is she wants to use social media to expose the failures of socialism.

She said, “€œTo make capitalism cool again.”€

I totally support this idea because this is absolutely what we are seeing with much of the next generation. Guys, even though through the work with the leadership training program, the internship program that WallBuilders does in the summer through Patriot Academy, Rick, that is happening all over the U.S. in the summer, we are doing a lot to try to help train young people often in that age range to think differently, to act differently, to understand and live differently, and understanding that capitalism really does make more sense. It’s been more effective, it’s brought more people out of poverty than any other system of government. Socialism has never worked anywhere it’s been tried.

Standing Up Against the Left

So we do expose students this kind of stuff, but the reason we’ve had to focus on that is that so much of this generation is embracing this bad ideology. Even though we’ve seen some of the man on the street interviews when people are asking students about socialism, and students can’t define it. They don’t know what it means and how it works, and they’ve just been taught that this is a really good idea anyway.

So Morgan Zeiger—

Rick:

And by the way, Tim, I just want to add in there and that’s not just the public school kids that are embracing it. We see it coming out of the homeschool community, and private schools, and public schools, and it’s happening all over the country. So it is something to be very concerned about, and really cool that you found a piece of good news where someone from that generation is starting such cool movement.

Tim:

That’s exactly right. When you see a lot of the opposition to this movement, oftentimes it’s from older generations looking going, “€œWhat are they doing?”€Â

And this is where so often Millennials—and now GenZs—they get really berated and castigated by older generations going, “€œHow dumb are they?”€Â

And every time we hear those kinds of accusations, you want to just say, “€œAnd who raised them?”€Â

I feel like we should be blaming the teachers and the parents every bit as much—if not more sometimes—for this bad ideology, because where did they learn it? And many parents even those listening would say, “€œNow wait a second, I never taught my kids this!”€Â

Well, maybe not, but maybe you sent them to a university or an institution where they were taught this bad information.

Making Capitalism Cool Again

And, God bless, I’m sure many parents listening now are going, “€œOh my gosh, it’s true!”€ We’re trying to help win our kids back because they’ve gotten so much bad information, and we don’t want this.

So not to put any bad motives on parents when those are not there. Nonetheless, it’s usually something that you see an older generation looking down on the younger generation and thinking, “€œMan they’re dumb for doing this.”€Â

It is so encouraging when you see people in the midst of that generation recognizing this is terrible ideology, and Morgan, who is strategic enough to recognize the way so much this propaganda happens is from liberals on social media, she says, “€œSo we need to get to social media, we need to get on YouTube, or on Instagram, and start creating videos, because these young people are spending hours watching videos every single day. Let’s give them content that shows how bad socialism is. That shows how good capitalism is.”€ Anyway, it’s just very refreshing to see someone from that generation saying, “€œI want to be a difference maker! I want to do something to help the next generation think differently and not embrace some of those ideologies!”€Â

Rick:

Really cool, really good news. If people want to see more about this they can go look up Young Americans Against Socialism, you can find the website and see some of these videos. If you even want to help support this you can do that there too.

But this is a young person fighting back against socialism, trying to make a difference, which is great news good news. All right. Quick break guys. We’ll be right back with more good news. Stay with us. You’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

Biographical Sketches

Hi friends! This is Tim Barton of WallBuilders. This is a time when most Americans don’t know much about American history or even heroes of the faith. I know, oftentimes as parents, we”€™re trying to find good content for our kids to read.

If you remember back in the Bible, the Book of Hebrews it has the Faith Hall of Fame, where they outlined the leaders of faith that had gone before them. Well, this is something that as Americans we really want to go back and outline some of these heroes not just of American history, but heroes of Christianity and our faith as well.

I wanted to let you know about some biographical sketches we have available on our website. One is called, “€œThe Courageous Leaders Collection“€ and this collection includes people like Abigail Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Francis Scott Key, George Washington Carver, Susanna Wesley, even the Wright brothers.

There’s a second collection called, “€œHeroes of History“€ in this collection you read about people like Benjamin Franklin, Christopher Columbus, Daniel Boone, George Washington, Harriet Tubman, the list goes on and on.

This is a great collection for your young person to have and read. And, it’s a providential view of American and Christian history. This is available at WallBuilders.com.

Muslim Imam Saves Hundreds of Christians from Massacre

Rick:

We”€™re back! Thanks for staying with us on this Good News Friday.

David Barton has got the next piece. By the way, if you”€™re tuning in for the first time, you’ve never been on a Good News Friday radio program with us here at WallBuilders Live. We’ve got a ton more of this at our website WallBuildersLive.com, so be sure and check that out and you can go look at those previous Friday programs because you’re probably getting encouraged and you can say I want more of that. Well it’s right there.

David”€™s got the next piece of good news. David?

David:

This is good news that I am thrilled to report, and I’ll say, from my personal standpoint, I’ve been asking for a long time, “€œWhere is this type of good news?”€Â

Because I’ve wanted to report this, and now I get to.

So let me set it up. This came out of the State Department. We have friends who are very high in the State Department, who have been working on these kinds of things to be able to find instances like this and bring it to life, and I’m just I’m thrilled to report this.

So what happened is, in Nigeria, there is a number of Muslims that were launching coordinated attacks on 10 villages to kill the Christians in those villages. So they’re going after these guys as Christians, and so as the attack starts. One of these villages that the shooting begins, and the yelling begins, etc..

Saved from an Attack on a Hospital

A Muslim Imam in that village looked out to see what was going on and they saw all these Christians running and trying to find a place to hide. He reached out and started bringing them into his mosque, and he took 262 Christians into his mosque. The Muslims came to the mosque and started to go in to get the Christians, and he stepped up and said, “€œNo, you’re not going in there.”€Â

He started pleading with the Muslims to leave them alone. So the gunmen killed 84 Christians in the village, but he saved 262 Christians.

I’ve been looking for this for so long to be able to say, “€œHey, you’re telling me that these extremists and Muslims, that that’s not what the religion represents? Where”€™s the other side voicing this?”€Â

Well here’s a great example of an an Imam—he’s 83 years old—and this Muslim Imam in Nigeria said, “€œNo, you’re not coming into this mosque. We’re defending Christians here.”€Â

And he went out to argue with those guys and they did leave them alone. So I thought that’s a great story. Then I found another one from International Christian Concern, very recent story just a few weeks ago. This happened in Kenya, and in Kenya the Muslim extremist group Al-Shabaab had found a place where a hospital was being built in Kenya, and they planned a coordinated attack on the hospital of kill all the Christians who were working there.

So as the attack started to get underway, some of the Muslim people heard about that and they rushed to the hospital ahead of the Muslim terrorist and said, “€œYou guys got to get out of here!”€Â

Non Extremist Muslims Working with Christians

And so they save 20 Christians in the hospital and kept him from being killed. When the Muslims arrived they weren’t there, and then the Muslims who saved the Christians went and confronted the gunmen and said, “€œWhat are you doing? You can’t do this.”€ Kenya is a really dangerous place for Christians in that area, and so again, here’s a second example of Muslim stepping up to defend Christians.

Tim:

Guys, this is something that we have known for a while. We have some friends who have done some missions and rescue work in the Middle East right now, with the the slavery and the sex trafficking happening, we know some people who are doing work and they talk about some of the Muslims that are over there that that they work with, that are trying to fight against some of this sex trafficking slavery. They’ll point out not all Muslims have the same views and beliefs in there. They’re not all radical and they don’t all have the same ideology.

But we just don’t often hear of the more peaceful Muslims who are stepping up to oppose this radical ideas and behaviors. So we knew it was there, and certainly we know that not all Muslims are extremists. They don’t all have these same ideologies. But this is really encouraging to see that there are now groups of Muslims saying, “€œWait a second, we can’t let this in essence intolerance, this extremism, happen. We have to stand up and do something.”€Â

Not only do they protect Christians, they were rebuked the radicals, which arguably would put their lives on the line to save other people, which does give you hope that there can be some of these changes.

Really Cool News

Maybe we can see some of this radical nature eliminated just by having other Muslims standing up to do this.

So we definitely do want to be an encouragement in this situation. We don’t want to fall in the group and say that all people have to look like an extremist in a situation. Certainly all of the Muslims that are out there are extremists, and don’t hold those positions, but we just haven’t always seen good examples of them stepping up to defend and save Christians.

Now we’ve seen something much more visible because, as I mentioned, we have friends who are doing some rescue operations—and by the way, those friends? We actually some of the chief rescue workers that are hired by the group are actually Muslims who are going in and saving Christians from Muslim extremists.

We knew that some of this was going on.

But sometimes we’re limited in what we can say, so we can’t always talk about some of this. The good news that we know about is some of these heroic Muslims who are helping rescue these people in slavery that are being sex trafficked. But now you have situations where news media is able to document a situation where Christians were being massacred, where they were being martyred, and Muslims stepped up to stop the extremists from killing and murdering them. So again, this is really cool news that, as you mentioned, we’ve waited a long time to see this and now we pray that we’ll see more and more of this.

Rick:

Really good news coming from around the world. Quick break. We”€™ve got one more segment of good news for the folks listening. We’ll be right back with WallBuilders Live.

The Republic of Nauru Recognizes Jerusalem as Israel”€™s Capital

Rick:

We’re back with WallBuilders Live! Thanks for staying with us for our final segment of good news, and Tim Barton’s got the last word. What’s our last piece of good news, Tim?

Tim:

We are going to talk about the Republic of Nauru. Now, I don’t know if you’re up on geography, because I was not.

Rick:

Nauru… wait, is that in the Lord of the Rings? No. That’s a real Republic as well.

My geography must be bad. I have no idea.

Tim:

So if you were going to guess somewhere on the globe, where would you guys think the Republic of Nauru is?

Rick:

Central Africa.

Tim:

Dad?

David:

I would say an island. It’s an island somewhere.

Tim:

It is an island.

Rick:

I lose…

Tim:

Oh, wait a sec. No we’re not done. I’ve got more trivia. How many people are part of the population of the Republic of Nauru?

David:

Twenty five hundred?

Tim:

No. You underestimated. They are a strong thirteen thousand.

Rick:

Oh, I was gonna say twenty five hundred and one so that I would beat David.

Tim:

You may come down and spin the wheel. Exactly. So 13,000 people. But the reason they’re in the news is they’re actually they sent a letter to the United Nations.

And in this—kind of update—to the United Nations, they said, “€œHey, just wanted to let you guys know we have the honor to convey the decision of the government of the Republic of Nauru to formally recognize the city of Jerusalem as the capital city of the state of Israel.”€Â

Honduras Recognises Jerusalem as Israel”€™s Capital

They are another nation coming out, and they weren’t the only ones when this article it identifies. Honduras has actually also come out, the Honduran President, Juan Orlando Hernandez, actually went over to Israel to do an inauguration, so to speak, for the opening of the embassy in Jerusalem.

They still have an extension in Tel Aviv, but they’re recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. This is something we talked about when President Trump did this for the United States and there were other nations that followed, and we talked about, “€œI wonder how many nations will continue to go that direction.”€Â

These are are now two other nations going that direction. I think it’s probably worth noting, if you go back to the Republic of Nauru, they are a majority Christian country, and openly profess their Christian faith.

And it’s it’s probably not a coincidence that the majority of people who have recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel have been predominantly Christian professing nations, which certainly, if you’re a Christian, if you’re familiar with the Bible, you recognize, Jerusalem was the center and was the capital of Israel.

So this was part of that history, but the Republic of Nauru, majority Christian nation of 13,000 people, and as I was reading this, I was just joking—or kind of chuckling in my head—thinking about how many cities in Texas we have that are bigger than their entire nation. But this is another nation recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. So pretty good news.

David:

Well, it is one of the hundred and ninety five nations at the U.N., so it is an official nation. That’s another official nation recognizing Jerusalem. That’s terrific.

Rick:

Absolutely. And I have improved my geography today, Tim.

Where is Nauru?

Tim:

Whoa now, I didn’t really tell you guys where it was. So, to improve your geography on this, if you go north of Australia into the middle of the water for a couple hundred miles, there will be an island off by itself. And if it’s an island with thirteen thousand people, it’s probably Nauru. So it really is kind of in the middle of nowhere.

Rick:

I wouldn’t know. I was going to say something like Indonesia, where there is a big cluster islands. This is just a solitary island.

Tim:

It’s considered one of the Micronesian nations. But in looking at the map, I don’t see any other nation very close to it or any other islands really that close to it at all. It really seems to be off by itself.

Rick:

Well, we’re going to we’re going to visit, and we’re gonna be broadcasting WallBuilders Live from the Republic of Nauru. I think it”€™ll be fun. We should plan that.

Tim:

That would be that would be trip. Although I’m not sure how many plane rides or boat rides it would take to go. I can’t imagine what they’re landing strip is like. I don’t even know if they have an airport, I assume they’d have an airport, but it would be a very interesting trip. But I’m down for the adventure.
