Rick:

This is WallBuilders Live. Thanks for joining us today at the intersection of faith and the culture. We’re going to be taking a look at some of the hot topics of the day from a biblical, historical and constitutional perspective. And today is Good News Friday, which means we’ll be looking at some good news from across the nation and around the world. We’re here with David Barton. He’s America’s premier historian and our founder of WallBuilders. Tim Barton is with us, national speaker and pastor impression of WallBuilders. And my name is Rick Green. I’m a former Texas legislator and America’s constitution coach.

It takes those dollars to produce a program, to get the interview set up, to spread the good news to train the pastors that we train when we take them to Washington, DC to do our legislators conferences, our youth leadership program, you name it. All those things take dollars to be effective and to influence the culture in that positive way. And we’re excited about that. We’re not complaining about that. We think it’s great that you can make a financial investment in freedom. And that’s what we’re asking you to do. Go to wallbuilderslive.com, make that contribution. Come alongside us, be a part of the solution.

Alright guys, we’re going to jump into some good news for this Good News Friday. I always enjoy these days with you guys. I hope you’ve compiled a lot. I see lots of paper, but let’s see what you’ve actually got in that paper. How many stories we’re going to try to get through today.

David:

We’re going to try to get through a bunch. We’ll see.

Rick:

Alright, you”€™re first, David. Let’s hear the first piece of good news.

David:

I’m going to read a motto to you and I want you guys to tell me who said the motto and why it was said. Here’s the motto. “€œLeave no vacancy behind.”€ Who said it?

Rick:

Oh, this was recent. This was about what to do this year. I just saw all the headline too. Who was it that say that?

Tim:

I think that”€™s [inaudible 02:17].

Rick:

Good effort. Good effort.

David:

Nice try.

Rick:

It wasn’t McConnell, it was somebody else. I can’t remember, I just saw that headline too.

David:

Well, actually, it was Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. And what is he talking about?

Rick:

I thought it was one of the other senators. He’s talking about, we got, what, eight months, let”€™s says 10 months left. And the number one priority for 2020 outside of elections, actual legislation to get passed, is for the Senate to get all of those Judges approved and get those vacancies filled.

David:

So his motto is “€œLeave No Vacancy Behind.”€ The good news is we just have the 51st federal Appeal”€™s court Judge Confirmed. Now we’re not talking about federal Judges in general, these are the ones that are on the, if you will, the Federal Supreme Courts that are oversee the States. This is right below the US Supreme Court. So 90 something percent of all cases that come through the states will end up in one of these courts of Appeals. The US Supreme Court is only going to get, like 1% of the cases ever reached the Supreme Court or get appeal to it. So we’re talking about 99% of the decisions are made at these Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

Rick:

And you mean, David, just to be clear, for those that don’t do anything in law these days, you mean 99% of the cases that are appealed. So in other words, there’s a lot at the district court level, they don’t go any further. But of those that go higher, 95, 99, whatever that number is gets settled at the court of Appeals and never goes all the way to the US Supreme Court?

David:

That’s right. So a final decisions that will affect people’s lives, whatever the overwhelming majority are not made it to US Supreme Court, they’re made it the Federal Court of Appeals level. And so at that level and you’ve got what, 600 or so federal Judges that are over district courts, etc. When you look at it, I think there’s, what is it? Is it like 140 or 150 Court of Appeals judges, something like that. But we’re looking at Trump has now got 51 of those Federal Appeals Court Judges on there.

I just did an Op-Ed national Op-Ed last weekend on one of the Appeals Court Judges and how well they’re doing in defending religious liberties, defending constitutional rights, defending other things. Even as they’re facing difficult decisions, they keep advocating for the constitution and return to constitutional beliefs and original intent. So they have 51 of these guys on courts and I think there are now four federal circuit courts of appeals that have been flipped because of these new appeals.

And you know, we’ve talked before. And by the way, this brings it to about 191 I think it is, 191-192 thereabouts, that have now been confirm to the court. What you’re looking at getting close to one-third of all the Federal Judges have not been put on the by Trump and we’ve said that he has a high percentage of these guys being really sound. But I’m changing that now to say, okay, he’s got 191 or 192 whatever it is on the court right now and of them, I don’t know what percentage are sound. But I do know that I do not know a single one of them that I disagree with at this point. Now, I don’t know all of them. But I still haven’t found one that is coming out with decisions where I say oh, that’s really bad. You know, that’s a really bad written in the Constitution.

So I can’t say they’re 100% great, but I can say that I haven’t found any that I’m disagreeing with on Constitutional issues at this point, which is really, really, really good. So that’s what’s happening. He’s got a bunch more that are coming the coming weeks. Right after they did the 51st Federal Appeals Court Judge, they said and we got a bunch more this week we’re going to do. So these are really running through at a fairly rapid rate and that really is good stuff.

Related to that I have here decision that came out of the 11th Circuit Court. And by the way, this 51st judge that was placed on the Appeals Court was placed on the 11th Circuit Court. And yet the 11th Circuit before he got there, just issued a ruling that was very good on religious liberties that dealt with Duquesne University, the National Labor Relations Board. And at the Duquesne University, the professors wanted to unionize and wanted to, you know, take control of whether the university and hire and fire them or whatever.

And so the National Labor Relations Board got involved and said, yeah, you can’t keep these guys from unionizing. Well, the 11th Circuit came and said, we can because the federal government has no jurisdiction over religious universities and what happens at those universities. So if the University says we don’t want unions on our religious universities, that’s their choice. That’s not the choice of the federal government. I mean is terrific decision defending the jurisdiction of religious groups to be able to make their own policies without the federal government tell them what those policies are going to be.

So this is just another indication of how we’re seeing more and more of these cases coming back to constitutional bounds, constitutional jurisdictions and what’s happened with the 11th Circuit, but what’s happened with Trump Judges in general and particularly with this new motto that McConnell has, “€œLeave No Vacancy Behind”€, that really is good news for the nation.

Rick:

You know, as we’re going to break, I know you guys got a lot more good news. If I could chime in here on the Judges. I mean, part of the reason the presidential election is so important, those 51 Judges, you’re talking about, David, I bet 99% of our listeners could not name a single one of them. And I live, breathe and eat this stuff and I think I can only name two of the 51 Don Will and James O, just because they’re from Texas and I knew them. But all the rest of them, these are names people don’t know. These decisions happen, you know, kind of behind the scenes in terms of the public eye.

And that’s why the presidential appointments at the District Court level and the Court of Appeals level are so important. We only seem to think about the US Supreme Court appointees. It’s all these other Judges as well, there’s no vacancy left behind is huge. And the presidential election in November is incredibly important because it will determine the other half of the judiciary that’s going to get appointed or next 25% or so that will get appointed in the next four years. This is great news. And it’s another reason why people really need to pay attention to that presidential election. And recognize that Trump’s appointees have been as David was saying, so stellar and so beyond what we thought they were going to be. It’s something to really be thankful for, but also to be thinking about going into this 2020 election. Quick break, we’ll be back with more good news from David and Tim Barton, you’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

BREAK

This is David Barton, with another moment from America’s history. As another election approaches, many citizens now take the process so much for granted that they’re apathetic about voting. After all, since America has held elections continuously since 1619, why should this election be viewed with any particular interest? They argue that since America has survived even wars and calamities, what difference does one election or even one vote make? Perhaps they should listen to the words of the great Daniel Webster, who declared, “€œI apprehend no danger to our country from a foreign foe. For there is no nation on earth powerful enough to accomplish our overthrow. Our destruction, should it come at all will be from the inattention of our people to the concerns of their government from their carelessness and neglect.”€

Therefore, in the upcoming elections, don’t take your freedoms for granted, make sure that you vote. For more information on God’s hand in American history, contact the WallBuilders at 1808REBUILD.

Rick:

We”€™re back here on WallBuilders Live, Good News Friday today and Tim Barton has the next piece of good news. Tim?

Tim:

Hey guys, this is something coming from the Trump administration. Word came out earlier this year that President Trump was and it is the article titled Trump proposes 21% cut in US foreign aid and budget proposals. Now, that is something that maybe not necessarily be directly impactful as way people see it. But when you consider that we are giving an awful lot of money to countries around the world, right, we fund the UN, we give a lot of money to nations that don’t like us, nations that don’t support us and Trump is being an American first guy says, hey, let’s just consider some of what we’re funding, what we’re doing, what nations are doing for themselves. And so the idea that he is looking at cutting some of a budget, anytime you are cutting levels of budget in Washington, DC, pretty much we’re in favor of it with maybe the exception of the military. The reason is that the more money we spend in other areas, that money comes from taxpayers. So we are losing money for the federal government.

And one of the things our good friend, Bob McEwen always says, is when you have full control of your money, right, the more money you have, the more freedom you have. You have the freedom to buy what you want, do what you want, go where you want. But the more that government takes away from you, the less freedom you have. Because freedom is about having choices and now you have fewer choices, because that money is gone to the government.

The reason we support the military is the military helps our nation be strong and protect freedom for us. So that’s something that we’re happy to fund. Nonetheless, what’s cool about this is you have a president who was looking at finding ways to cut spending in certain areas. And even though we are still spending way, way, way too much money, right? Go back to the President Bush administration, we saw the growth of government, we saw spending at incredible highs and granted, we were in the middle of a war, it’s very common in the middle of a war to spend a lot of money. Than under President Obama, right, it seems like the war is really kind of subsided. We’re just up against the JV team as he described ISIS and it seemed like things were slowing down and yet our budgets continued to increase.

Under Trump, our budgets are continuing to increase. The difference is that now we are bringing in so much more money. So it seems like a strong economy, but we’re still spending way too much, so our debt is still continue to increase. So when we have a president who’s going to say that let’s find some ways to cut some of our spending, this is a huge thought that we are now looking at ways to cut some of our spending, especially when it comes to some of the foreign aid, although one part of this article that is kind of humorous to me. Is it does point out that aid to Ukraine would remain at its 2020 levels under the new proposal. So just so people know, right, that because part of the big deal with the impeachment was dealing with him, holding up the funding to Ukraine. So he says, hey, if the funding we’re cutting, just so you know, Ukraine is totally okay. They’re getting all of their money, no problem for them. But it’s neat to see them. From the Trump administration, reducing some of those expenses.

Another article I have. It highlights that Trump removes pollution controls on streams and wetlands. This is one of the promises he made looking at so many of the EPA regulations and how restrictive they are. And one of the things that President Obama, I believe was 2015, the waters of the United States was something that came from President Obama. And essentially, he said if there’s any wetlands, nobody is allowed to do any developments, to do any farming, to really utilize any of the wetlands anymore because the federal government now was going to protect and control those. And the idea is”€¦

David:

And buy the way, Tim, let me also point out that when they defined wetlands, it included places that had been desert for years. It was like if it’s ever rain there in the history of the world, it’s a wetland. But It was so overreaching bra absolutely overreaching, bros.

Tim:

Absolutely overreaching. Absolutely ridiculous. And one of the things about this is it would not let farmers continue to grow crops in that land. If they had crops in the land, it said that we’re not going to let you to use any pesticides, because pesticides can be bad if they get in the water, right? And you’re looking at these farmers going, wait a second, there’s no streams, right? There’s no underground reservoirs anywhere around my fields. This is not a problem. Nonetheless, President Trump and one of the many promises he has kept, this is another one of the EPA regulations he has rolled back and just so friends that are listening if, right, the environments a big deal to you, just so you know, President Trump in rolling this back said that he’s going to pass the navigable waters protection rule. So where there’s actually there are waterways, he says, we’re still going to protect the waterways, we’re just not going to punish the farmers. We’re not going to punish the agricultural community. We’re not going to punish the developers and using abilities or land that they own in areas that it’s not a threat to anybody else.

Some people against it said that well, wait a second, they’re taking all the clean drinking water away. And this is one of those dumb old accusations. Right? Back when Mitt Romney was running for president and the accusation was that his policies, he just wants everybody to have dirty air and dirty drinking water and it’s an utterly ludicrous claim because nobody wants there to be dirty air and bad drinking water. Nobody is thinking that way. But what we recognize is that individuals are able to do a better job with their property than the federal government has ever even seen their property.

And what we know guys also for all of us, we live in the country, we have kind of country estates, some farmland, some cattle land. Generally what you see from people that are in the agriculture industry that are farmers, that are ranchers, they do much better, they are so conscientious about taking care of their property, taking care of their livestock, they don’t want to do anything to harm the environment because harming the environment harms them. So they’re generally, some of the more responsible people when it comes to protecting the environment. Anyway, really good news that Trump is rolling back things from the EPA and giving more freedom to individuals with their own property. So good news.

Rick:

You know, another comment as we go to break here. Again, just keep thinking about you know, later this year in the election, I was listening to Ted Cruz’s podcast, he’s got Verdict, which is phenomenal went number one during the impeachment hearings, I think he’s still doing really well. But anyway, one of the things he was saying about what happens if the Democrats maintain control in the house after this election and somehow some way took over the Senate and Bernie Sanders won the election, if the country rewarded them for this ridiculous impeachment thing by giving them the election, who would be the head of the EPA? And it scared me to death when he said think about it. If Bernie Sanders was President of United States, AOC would be a likely EPA department. I mean, guys, just think about how it would shut down our entire economy, the policies that would come through there.

So the opposite of the good news you’re sharing, Tim, is that if we don’t pay attention in the upcoming election, we could get the exact opposite of the type of good news that you’re sharing. Quick break, guys, we’ll be right back. More good news when we return on WallBuilders Live.

Rick:

We”€™re back here on WallBuilders Live and it’s Good News Friday. We got a couple of quick segments coming up and David is going to do the first one. David, what’s our piece of good news?

David:

I am going to read part of a Trump quote here. President Trump at a news conference, he says there is nothing more important than the right and what’s the rest of it, the right what?

Rick:

To keep a bear arms.

Tim:

Self-defense.

David:

Well, all those are good answers. But what he said is the one that probably nobody expected, at least politically, we haven’t heard this in decades. Trump said there’s no right more important than the right to pray. He said in public schools around the country, authorities are stopping students and teachers from praying, sharing their faith or following their religious beliefs, it is totally unacceptable. You see it on the football field. You see it so many times where they’re stopped from praying. We’re doing something to stop that.

So he announced that they’re putting prayer back in schools. I love this. And this didn’t seem to get a whole lot of coverage. But there are now nine federal agencies that have come together and they are issuing new rules and regulations to make sure students can pray in schools. So they’re protecting the right of teachers and students to pray in schools. And they’re pointing at you can lose all of your federal funding for education if you don’t allow students and teachers to pray in schools. This is huge stuff. I mean, this is this really is big.

It goes back. In 2003, President Bush when he was in there, Under Secretary of Education, Rod Page, they came out and said, look, here’s all the rights you have religiously. If you violate these rights, you’re going to lose your federal funding in schools, you have to certify every year that these rights are being protected. They’re going back to that and saying, hey, the right for students and teachers to pray in school is protected. And if you don’t allow that to happen, you’re going to lose your federal funds, which sets a lot of money for school districts to lose. They don’t want to lose that. So it really is significant.

I love the criticism, though on the other side, the criticism says, well, the right to prayer is already protected under federal law. Well, if it is, then why do you care if that he”€™s protected it? I mean, if you’re saying it’s already protected, why are you criticizing him for saying we’re going to protect school prayer? So this is one we’re actually the Left agrees with the Right that the right to pray in schools is protected. And so there’s new guidelines will be coming out shortly. Really is it fun stuff. And by the way, we know that the right to pray in schools is not being protected. That’s why Alliance Defending Freedom has won more than 400 cases against college campuses where they’ve tried to violate the rights of the students to free speech through prayer, whatever they choose to do.

So really is a great announcement. And for Trump to say there’s no more important right than the right to pray, talking about the right of kids to pray at schools. This really is a super big deal.

Rick:

Man, David, this goes all the way back to your first book, “€˜To Pray Or Not To Pray”€™.

David:

It is. And you know this, again, we’re just seeing so many changes. And I really wish the nation knew more about these kind of things because so much of the nation is supportive of school prayer and is supportive of the things. And what they keep hearing about is the impeachment and the corruption of Trump and what he did to coerce the Ukrainian president. And how about what he’s doing with Judges? And how about what he’s doing with religious liberties and the right to life? Man, the media is not going to say that. So that’s our responsibility as individual citizens, to make sure that our friends and our peers know that this kind of stuff is going on, what Tim just said, with deregulation, EPA getting private property rights back, there’s so many things moving in a constitutionally good direction under this president and that’s something we need to share with others.

Rick:

Man, we’re going to find out one more piece of good news when we come back. Stay with us, you’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

Rick:

We’re back here on WallBuilders Live. It’s Good News Friday today and we’ve only got a few minutes left. So we’ll get one more piece of good news and Tim gets to bring it to us, Tim.

Tim:

Alright, guys. This one comes from a friend formerly from Kansas. Used to be governor and Senator, Sam Brownback. Sam Brownback is now the US Ambassador at large for International Religious Freedom, which if you back up to a previous president, this was a posting that was not felt President Obama did not have somebody from America that was looking internationally at the issues of religious freedom or religious persecution.

David:

For seven out of eight years, he finally felt it in the last year as he was kind of going out office, but seven out of eight years, he didn’t think it was worth filling.

Tim:

And interestingly, right, one of the things we know when ISIS was on the move, they targeted Christians, quite often and other religious minorities. And so certainly, you see around the world, that religious minorities, Christians are absolutely targeted by other groups. Anyway, Sam Brownback, one of the really cool things that happened is just several weeks ago, guys, you had the congressional prayer breakfast and Sam Brownback was there, leaders from other nations were there and it was announced that”€¦

David:

You were there by the way.

Tim:

I did happen to be there. I was sitting with some congressmen and our table is pretty neat to be there. But Sam Brownback announced that there is for the first time ever an alliance, an International Religious Freedom Alliance. There were 17 nations that were already signed on. He says he expects to have, now many upper 20s of nations that are signing on and they’re signing on to help defend religious freedom in their nations and promoted in other nations.

And so dad, just as you mentioned, with President Trump defending religious freedom here, saying no prayer, we absolutely believe in the right to pray, which is so awesome to hear President say because it’s true. It’s constitutional. The Founding Fathers believed in that. It [inaudible 24:23] been upheld recently. Well, not only have we had a president saying that, the President appointed someone to the, I guess us ambassadorship of the International Religious Freedom at large. And he’s promoting, Sam Brownback is promoting religious freedom in other nations, forming alliances with other nations, that now religious freedom is being promoted around the world, just such good news coming and good job, Sam Brownback.

Rick:

Well, I love winning we have good news, not only right here in America, but all across the world. And as part of that promotion of religious liberty across the world. That’s part of why America is a force for good and continues to be a force for good. It is the American story, unfortunately, the opposite of that has been taught on most college campuses across the country and in public schools across the nation. So we need to counter that.
