Stopping Social Experiments in the Military

We’re going to start with some good news. Today is Good News Friday, and I’m looking forward to all that David and Tim have to share. Guys, what’s our first piece of good news?

David:

OK Rick, let me jump into one that deals with the decision that was recently handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court. It goes back to President Trump, and when President Trump was running for office.

We’ve talked before in meetings with them, and are setting up meetings with military leaders and President Trump.

One of the things they asked for was, “Let’s stop doing social experimentation in the military.”

So what happened was President Trump promised to stop that social experimentation as part of that. He put a limit on transgenders being able to enlist in the military.

There has been a pattern of transgenders enlisting in the military, I think it’s at 4,000 perhaps now that have— but many of them go into the military and have their gender change surgery in the military. It’s a very expensive surgery, and this way it’s paid for by the military. Americans cover it.

Then, once they have that gender change surgery, they are non deployable for up to 10 months. So when you have unit cohesion, and every unit is made up of—say if I need a mortar guy, an infantry guy, or if I need a communications guy, or whatever—they’ve been pulled out of that cohesive unit for up to a year. They’re non deployable.

Then when you go to deploy a unit overseas or elsewhere, they can’t go. So you have to find a replacement, you have to break up some other unit.

Transgenders Abusing the Military’s Money

Tim:

Sometimes the army keeps a unit from going because they’ve trained with this person, then they consider the unit is not ready to deploy.

Sometimes the specific group that’s been training for whatever task or project, sometimes another group is sent in their place, that’s frustrating to, if you’ve been training for a job and you can’t do it. Nonetheless, it certainly does not. This does not aid America in our defense. That’s really what the military is for, to keep us safe, to help America be defended against all these enemies. People that don’t have the intention of going in to defend America, in many of these cases they’re going in to have their their surgeries paid for.

We are—the taxpayers are—funding that effort. This doesn’t help military preparedness. It does seem like a problem.

David:

What happened was, when Trump issued that order, it was challenged to court, and the lower court said, “No, you can’t do that order. You have to continue to accept transgenders.”

Well, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that, “No, it did not have to continue to accept transgenders, and that ban Trump put on does stay in place.”

Now, they did not rule on the issue. The issue is still going to work it’s way through the court, which can take several years, but in the meantime the ban that Trump put on transgenders in the military, that will stand. That will remain in place while it is litigated in lower courts.

Dramatic Improvements Under Trump

So in one sense, that is what I consider to be good news. It is getting the military away from that social experimentation side. That’s not something you want to start playing with when you are looking at the security of Americans.

This is something that, certainly from the military side, military leaders are very clear that this does not help America’s military preparedness.

Rick:

Well—and you say it’s something you don’t want to play with—but man, the Obama Administration sure did for eight years. We did a lot of shows on that and had some very high up military, and retired generals, and whatnot come on and comment about it. Certainly that has dramatically improved under Trump, wouldn’t you say?

David:

It has dramatically improved under Trump. It has gone to a much more traditional approach toward military, military usage, military training—you know, as we’ve noted before, Tim has two siblings that are active duty Army, which means two of my kids are active duty Army.

Things Were Bad

It was so bad. So much money was diverted away from military and other social programs, that there were 9 and 10 day trainings that the kids were part of, and they sat in the tents because they didn’t have enough money for gasoline for trucks.

They didn’t have any bullets to do training with. They just—it was kind of like we got 10 days to train, go to the field, and we’re going to sit on our tail for 10 days because we can’t do anything. That has definitely changed. Now the training is back up. One of our kids is a Blackhawk pilot.

That was not being done in the previous administration. There’s no question that, under Trump, there’s definitely been a change with what’s happening in the American military.

Rick:

Alright guys, quick break. We’ll be right back with more good news. Tim Barton’s next with some good news for us. Stay with us. You’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

This Precarious Moment Book

David:

This is David Barton. I want to let about a brand new book we have called This Precarious Moment: Six Urgent Steps That Will Save You, Your family, and Our Country. Jim Garlow and I have co-authored this book and we take six issues that are hot in the culture right now.

Issues that we’re dealing with, issues such as immigration, race relations, our relationship with Israel, the rising generation Millennials, and the absence of the church in the culture wars, and where American heritage is, our godly heritage. We look at all six of those issues right now that are under attack and we give you both Biblical and historical perspective on those issues that provide solutions on what each of us can do right now to make a difference.

These are all problems that are solvable if we’ll get involved. So you can grab the book This Precarious Moment and find out what you can do to make a difference. This Precarious Moment is available at WallBuilders.com.

Moment From American History

This is Tim Barton with another moment from American history. As the American War for Independence began, the president of Yale was the Reverend Naphtali Daggett. When New Haven, the home of Yale, came under attack about a hundred citizens rushed out to meet the British.

The Reverend Daggett galloped by them on horseback, his clearable robes flowing behind him in the wind. He took up a solitary position atop a hill. The 2,500 British soon put the townsfolk to flight but the Reverend Daggett continued to stand alone firing down on the advancing troops.

A British officer confronted him, “What are you doing there you old fool? If I let you go, will you ever fire again on the troops of his majesty?” Nothing more likely was the preacher’s reply. America’s early pastors personally confronted danger and courageously led their communities.

The Story of Clara

Rick:

We’re back on WallBuilders Live. Thanks for staying with us, it’s Good News Friday today. David and Tim Barton are sharing good news from across the nation and around the world. Tim’s got the next piece of good news, Tim?

Tim:

All right guys. One of the things that we have experienced in our many travels are flight delays and flight cancellations. It is one of the least favorite things ever.

In fact, there are some airports that we try to avoid flying through or having any layovers in because you kind of just know, for example, Chicago. O’Hare, to me, is one that is always going to have a weather delay, a plane delay, a cancellation, or something. I’ve almost never been to that airport when there wasn’t some kind of problem.

There are certain places we just try to avoid.

Well, there was a situation with a 15 year old girl and her mom. The girl’s name was Clara.

She and her mom were trying to get back to California from Massachusetts. Their flight got delayed. So they’re now on this flight late, trying to get home.

You can only imagine the frustration. It’s like driving in rush hour traffic when it’s just stopped, and you’re not going anywhere, and you’ve been there for hours. Nobody likes that.

“Do You Speak Sign Language?”

Well, on this plane ride home, the flight attendant is talking on the speaker and says, “Is there anybody here that speaks sign language?”

And Clara said that she just started thinking, “I don’t know what they might need somebody for that speaks sign language.”

But she actually had been taking sign language at her school. She hit the call button for the flight attendant and said, “I speak sign language.”

Flight attendant says, “Hey, we have a blind and deaf man on this flight and he’s trying to get help, but we don’t know what he needs. Do you finger sign?”

That’s where in somebody’s hand you essentially spell things.

She says, “Yes, I’ve learned that.”

“Would you mind coming up and speaking to this blind and deaf man?”

She goes up, and he was needing a glass of water and then wanted to know how much was left of the fight.

She said, “I felt so good being able to go and talk to this guy, but I’m dyslexic. I was so nervous that I was going to spell things wrong.”

As I’m reading the article I’m going, “God bless her heart. I like this girl already. She’s awesome.”

So she goes back and she sits in her seat.

The flight attendant comes back to her again says, “Hey, he’s asking for help again. Can you go back up?”

An Aspiring Future Senator

She went back up, and she told her mom later, she said, “I really think he was just lonely, cause he couldn’t really talk to anybody.”

So she sat by him for the last hour of their flight and was able to converse with him.

Her parents were so proud. Her mom took a picture of her up there talking with this guy. It went on Facebook and went viral. You actually can look it up.

This was last year when this happened and it was just such a cool story. But even for Clara, she says she has high aspirations.

She one day wants to be a U.S. senator, and she wants to be able to to sign while she gives her speeches. That’s just kind of an all around cool story. We as Christians often talk about how we want to be able to be blessings to people around us, and we want to be the light in the darkness, and we want God to use us.

Sometimes we look for these big moments, thinking we want something really big, not recognizing how big these small moments can be.

A Very Cool Story

Because in the right situation, and we can look and say no this was big because no one else could speak sign language, but she could. No. This is kind of a small deal.

And yet how cool to be able to use a talent or gift to bless someone in a situation where no one else on the flight was able to do this.

Just such a cool story coming from this 15 year old girl, and how she was able—in spite of being dyslexic—she was able to go and help this blind and deaf man get what he needed, and be a friend to him for the rest of that flight.

Rick:

Well, I think we need to get Clara in Patriot’s Academy. If she wants to be a U.S. Senator, let’s get her there and get her trained, and I think what you just said is so cool. That would be awesome to have her giving her speeches and signing at the same time. Very cool. Quick break guys, we’ve got more good news coming up. Stay with us. You’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

Good News From Conneticut!

Rick:

Welcome back. Thanks for staying with us here on WallBuilders Live. Good News Friday today. David Barton has got the next piece. David, where we heading to?

David:

Connecticut. In Connecticut, a great piece of legislation passed there. That’s not often we get to say that coming out of Connecticut. It’s kind of like saying a great piece of legislation came out of California, or New York, or elsewhere.

But this is a great piece of legislation, and this is kudos to the governor and the legislature there.

They have passed a policy that now requires all students in Connecticut to be taught about the Holocaust. You would think that is normal kind of stuff, but we know that it’s not.

So we saw back in 2014, when the AP U.S. history standards came out, they didn’t have students learn about the Holocaust, or Nazis, or any other stuff. There was such an outcry that they modified that in 2015, but it still is really, really lousy.

It’s terrible, but it’s the AP history standards nationally.

What we know right now, statistically, is 22 percent of millennials say they’ve never heard of the Holocaust and don’t have a clue what that is.

Seventy one percent Millennials have never heard of Auschwitz. They don’t know what that is.

By the way, that’s a death camp. That is the most famous death camp. There were others as well, but those are the big ones that everybody used to learn about in school, and now education is so poor, we don’t even do that.

What’s happened is, in recent years, hate crimes against Jews have skyrocketed. They have soared, more than doubled last year.

Educating College Students About Holocaust

In Connecticut they said, “You know what? Our kids need to know about the genocide. They need to know about the Holocaust. They need to know about the mistreatment of the Jews.”

They’re thinking that will help with these hate crimes. I think they’re right. But whether they’re right or not, you still need to know about that part of global history, and about that part of American history as well. So this is a great policy, a great measure to be passed by Connecticut. I hope other states will pick up and do this, because again, we do have this thing where Millenniala, and GenZers too, they just really don’t know this part of history at all.

Rick:

Now, in fact, we’ve done a few shows where we’ve interviewed people that have gone over—you guys have gone and visited some of these places, and I almost feel like we should do it more often because it is getting so lost in our history.

But that number…did you say 60 something percent of Millennials…?

David:

71 percent have no idea what Auschwitz is, and 22 percent say they have never heard of the Holocaust.

Tim:

That’s never heard. That’s not just this idea of, “I can’t really explain what all happened.” It’s never heard of it.

Rick:

Wow. That’s just…that’s incredible. Yeah, I think we need to get Pastor Lawrence White back on from Houston, who has such an incredible story of it. He takes people over every year to remind them of the atrocities. You guys went to Poland several times already where you visited some of these places.

We Need to Prioritize What Gets Taught

Tim:

Yeah, we’ve been to Poland actually a couple of times. We’ve gone with congressional delegations, we’ve seen some of this firsthand, we’ve had tours, we actually got to be with some survivors of the Holocaust on different occasions.

It really is quite remarkable, and I totally understand if you’re an educator, there’s so much to teach.

“I don’t have time to teach everything.”

I get it, I really understand that. There is a dilemma, so much to teach and we don’t have time to teach everything. I just think we’ve misprioritized what we’ve considered to be the most important when you can walk away from education thinking socialism is awesome and you’ve never heard of the Holocaust? Okay we’ve got some problems.

If you don’t know who Patton was, or who Eisenhower was, if you can’t tell stories about George Washington, we’ve kind of messed up on education. Based on what we have learned when we leave and what we haven’t learned when we leave, this is certainly something that we ought to remember what led to this and what form of government that was, the ideology, and what was the response of the people.

You Can Only Compare Trump to Hitler if You Don’t Know Who Hitler Was

And we want to make sure we know the signs so that we never let this happen again, and even if we knew this history, we would recognize how ridiculous it is when people say that President Trump is like Hitler.

No, he’s not. We can say he’s obnoxious, he’s ridiculous, you can pick an adjective to describe him, but he is not like Hitler.

But we only can make those associations when we don’t know our history and we don’t really understand the Holocaust or who Hitler was.

Rick:

That’s right. That’s right. Absolutely right guys. Quick break, we’ll be right back, folks. It’s Good News Friday. We’ve got one more segment of good news for you. So stay with us. You’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

Good News From the Department of Health and Human Services

Rick:

Welcome back to WallBuilders Live. It’s Good News Friday. Today we have one segment left. Let’s see what we’ve got. Tim, you’re up next.

Tim:

The next one actually comes from President Trump’s administration at the end of this last year. One of the things that happened from the Department of Health and Human Services is they issued a new rule regarding health care.

One of the things that, obviously at this point, I’m sure every listener is familiar with is Obamacare, and all the problems with how it happened, and we have to pass it to find out what’s in it.

We probably don’t need to educate people largely on Obamacare. The great news, though, is that last year—it was a very interesting year—the Department of Health and Human Services, they issued a new rule where they said that these health companies cannot charge people for these elective abortions if they don’t want that to be part of their health insurance.

So essentially striking down this abortifacients coverage, the things that we’ve been very concerned with, the things we saw Supreme Court cases where you add Little Sisters of the Poor, you add Hobby Lobby, you add some of these cases going to the U.S. Supreme Court because of people that it violated their sincerely held religious belief to give abortions.

This is Ridiculous, and it’s Changing

First of all, the nuns from Little Sisters of the Poor, they are not sexually active. They’ve given themselves to just being women of faith, and serving, and loving. That’s not part of their lifestyle. You’re making them pay for abortions on their health insurance. It’s ludicrous. Utterly ridiculous.

Well, that was part of what happened under Obamacare, and the Supreme Court said, “Yeah, that’s ridiculous. You can’t call somebody to do this, to violate their sincerely held religious belief.”

The great news is now the Department of Health and Human Services came back and said, “We’re not going to require people to pay for that on their health insurance,” which was one of the many problems we had with Obamacare.

But certainly as a religious person who believes in the right to life and believes in the sanctity of human life, certainly that is something that is good news.

David:

And Rick, let me just jump on to that, because also at about the same time last year—and I know that this is an old story for you, you’ve heard the news on this, everybody’s heard this.

No I don’t think so.

U.S. federal judge rules that Obamacare itself is unconstitutional. Period. End of the story.

Now it’s going to go back to the U.S. Supreme Court. This would be the third time it’ll be there, we’ll see what they do. But this is based on the individual mandate that people have to buy health insurance.

“We’re going to require you do this whether you want to or not.”

This federal judge struck that down.

Obamacare Repealed?

So related to what Tim was saying about the HHS change in Obamacare, we actually have a federal judge who said the whole thing is unconstitutional. So we’ll see where that ends up. But that’s also some good news.

Rick:

Guys, almost out of time today. Got time for one more piece of good news. Tim?

Tim:

All right. One thing we’ve talked about on many Good News Friday programs is the shift, the change in attitude, toward abortion. We’ve talked about how millennials are not as pro-choice, or not as pro-abortion, as even their parent’s generation was. This is just another study, we see it time and time again, another study where the vast majority of millennials do not support abortion on demand.

They don’t think abortion should be legal for all reasons and all situations. There’s actually many components to this poll that was done.

Nonetheless, it still is very strong where millennials do not believe that abortion should be allowed all the time, everywhere as Governor Cuomo, up in New York, is saying, “No, abortions should be all the way up until birth. It should be legal, it should be no problem.”

He’s signing that into law, all the other things he wants to do. Well, this is not where the next generation is, even though many far leftist and absolute-way-out-there liberals are in favor of this. It’s not where the next generation is.

A Pastor Teaching Truth!

Rick:

And that is really good news. Alright guys, as we’re closing out, I’ve got a good piece of good news to read from one of our listeners.

They said:

“Dear David, Tim, and Rick. Thanks so much for your excellent broadcast. I download your program every evening and listen to it the following day at work as a federal employee, not affected by the shutdown.

I listen to the podcast first. At the beginning of my workday the information in your comments is relative and informative as a bi-vocational pastor—”

So that means he’s working and he’s a pastor.

“I want to let you know about a Sunday morning sermon series I recently began called Biblical Answers to Controversial Issues. It’s based on the results of a Barna survey several years ago of the things lay people wanted to hear taught on in church. I started with abortion which, if you remember, was the number one issue on that survey. I preached 12 messages in this series a few years ago at a former pastorate, and now I’m bringing it again with lots of updates at my new pastorate. Thanks for the information to help with these messages. I hope our paths cross to meet one day. Keep up the good work. Much continued success. And God bless.”

That’s Pastor Mark Dalla. Mark, God bless you, brother. Thank you for doing that. Thanks for teaching truth. Thank you for addressing these tough issues.

Holocaust Education in Connecticut and More on Good News Friday

Just a great piece of good news as we close out our Good News Friday program today, and encourage other pastors to do the exact same thing. Let’s all not be afraid to speak truth, but instead speak that truth in love and spread the good news out there. So make sure you go to WallBuilders.com and you can help us do that right here at WallBuilders Live.

As a listener supported program, you can make a one time contribution or become one of our monthly donors and come alongside us throughout the year. All of that is available at WallBuilders.com. You’ve been listening to Good News Friday right here on WallBuilders Live.
