Faith and the Culture
Rick:
Welcome to the intersection of faith and the culture. It’s WallBuilders Live, where we’re talking about today’s hottest topics on policy, faith and the culture, and that’s every issue of the day. But of course, today, it’s Election Day, so the number one issue right now is the election and how it’s going to affect our nation going forward.
But we still look at it from a biblical, historical and constitutional perspective. In fact, if you missed yesterday’s program, I encourage you to go back and listen to that today. We really walked through the biblical commands for why you need to be a good citizen, for why you need to be a good steward of what we’ve been given in terms of freedom in this country. And you can get yesterday’s program on our website at wallbuilderslive.com right now. So check it out there at wallbuilderslive.com.
While you’re there, please consider making a contribution, we are able to bring you this good information and inspire and equip citizens across the nation because of our listeners that support the program. So make that donation to wallbuilderslive.com today, we greatly appreciate it.
My name is Rick Green. I’m a former Texas legislator and America’s Constitution coach. And I’m here with David Barton, America’s premier historian and the founder of WallBuilders, and Tim Barton is with us, national speaker and pastor and president of WallBuilders. Again, at wallbuilderslive.com, you can learn more about us and listen to programs from the previous few weeks. But let’s dive into today’s program because it is Election Day.
Well, David, Tim, it is here November 3rd, Election Day all year long, we’ve been talking about it. Everybody’s been building up to it. Billions have been spent for this moment this day. What should we expect it? And actually, I guess, I shouldn’t gloss over the fact that a lot of people listening earlier in the day to the program on some of the stations that aired earlier haven’t voted yet, they’re still headed to the polls.
Go Vote Today
So let’s not forget, hey, don’t give up, folks, go vote today. Even if the line is really long, go vote. You might be pulling up to the polls and see that line wrapped around the building, don’t let that dissuade you from doing your duty. Think of all the people that died for your right to do that. Alright, David, Tim, Election Day, what do you think?
Tim:
Well, let me point out, first of all, for a lot of people, this is a really positive day for many reasons, because some people have been praying and fasting, and so they get to eat food again today. So hey, we made it, right? We’re here. Certainly, this is a highly anticipated day, a lot of heightened emotions as we’re getting to the polls. And again, and Rick, as you mentioned, if people have not voted yet, make sure you make the most of this opportunity. If you have to stand in line for two hours, do it.
I was an election Judge for many years. There were times even though we tried to cycle people through very quickly, that it could take people standing in line a long time when you have 150 people whatever it is waiting to vote. But it is worth waiting, taking that time, so you can make the most of the opportunity that we have here in America that we can choose our leaders. As we talked about on the program yesterday, that we can prioritize issues of righteousness. And there is a very clear distinction between these candidates when it comes to policy issues.
A lot of times people focus on the personality, and they say, oh, but you know, President Trump’s personality, I can’t stand it. And I totally understand what people might be frustrated with. The reality is, though, what makes more impact on our nation is not somebody’s personality as much as their policies do.
And policies impact righteousness much more than a personality does. And between these two candidates, between the parties, you can go read the platform to the parties, their positions on policy issues, on moral biblical issues: there’s a very clear distinction. And so we want to make sure we prioritize issues of righteousness as Christians. And that’s not for this election only. That’s for every election.
Pursue Issues of Righteousness
We always want to pursue issues of righteousness as Christians because that’s what we’ve been called to it as believers. With all that being said, a lot of big things being voted on today. We could talk about the federal senate. Dad, right now, the Republicans have a three seat majority in the Senate. And there’s one third of the senate that’s up for election, and some of those are pretty contested seats. So this will be something interesting to watch tonight, seeing what happens with some of these Senate races.
Because one of the things we’ve seen with President Trump being able to confirm so many Judges is because the Senate was his same political party, and they were able to work together to confirm these Judges. If the Senate changes, even President Trump wins, it could change his ability to get so many things done like appointing federal Judges, because if the Senate’s not an aside anymore, if the Republicans don’t have a majority, it would hinder a lot of what his policy positions would be.
David:
And let me just say you’re about to get an insider’s kind of briefing on what may happen tonight. Tim and I will actually be anchoring election coverage on a national network tonight, The Victory Channel, which is on dish and direct and so many other places, is joining with some other cable networks. So Tim and myself, Michelle Bachman, will be among the anchors tonight on this national network.
And by the way, four years ago, is this network with the coverage we were doing, we were the first network in the nation to actually call President Trump as the winner; beat Fox and others by about an hour based on our numbers from what we had. But because of that, we’re going into this election with a full research crew, and we’re looking at all the State races and all the Senate races and all the House races and all the governor’s races, all the trifectas legislatively.
So there’s a lot of information to cover, and there’s things will be certainly looking forward tonight, right up front, they may give us early indications of how the night may go, or whether it turns into night into days, into weeks, into months. We’ll see.
Let Your Voice Be Heard and Your Values Be Counted
Rick:
Okay, we’ll have links today at our website, wallbuilderslive.com. So just click on that link, you’ll be able to go watch that coverage with David and Tim Barton tonight and do not get out of line. As long as you get in line before 7pm wherever in your State, then it might take an hour or more in line. But don’t give up, folks, make sure you go vote today. Get your voice in there, make sure that your vote is counted. Stay with us, we’ll be right back on WallBuilders Live.
BREAK
Hey friends, Rick Green here with a final challenge to you for voting in the 2020 election. This is your opportunity to let your voice be heard and your values be counted. Don’t miss this opportunity. And certainly don’t use the excuse of well, I’m not sure about all the other candidates on the ballot.
I know President, maybe Governor or Senator, whatever is happening in your particular state, but I’m not sure about some of these other ones. Listen, go to Christianvoterguide.com, Christianvoterguide.com, click on your State and it’ll take you to voter guides in your particular state, and you can take those into the voting booth with you. It’s your opportunity to be informed about the candidates. So, just simply tells you where they stand on the issues, and that way you can make an informed decision about who is the candidate that is best going to stand for Biblical value.
No perfect candidates, right? There is no perfect candidate. There are an unrighteous; no, not one. We’re all flawed jars of clay. Don’t dare stay at home and not vote because you refuse to vote for the lesser of two evils. There is always going to be a choice between the lesser of two evils. Yeah, it’s just how it works.
Because we are, in fact, all flawed jars of clay. But we can do the best we can with what we got. Where we are, there a lot of great candidates running for office, there are a lot of candidates that have stood up for righteousness that have done great work and we need to keep them in office. And then there are others that need to be thrown out because they’ve shown bad fruit. So make sure that you’re casting that informed vote. Go to Christianvoterguide.com.
It’s Election Day!
Rick:
We’re back here on WallBuilders Live. Thanks for staying with us. It is Election Day. If you have not voted yet, it’s not too late unless it’s after seven o’clock, then you can’t get in line. But if it’s 6:30, and you’re five minutes from your…
Tim:
Unless you’re in one of those weird states, right?
David:
Yeah.
Rick:
Oh, that’s true. Yeah, some of them could be going till midnight that they just extended at the last minute. But if you’ve got time, I mean, if there’s even just a sliver of time left, go get in line and stay in line. It is your duty, your responsibility to let your voice be heard and your values counted. And make sure your values are not Republican or Democrat, they are biblical values, and you’re going in and casting that biblical vote.
And we’ve talked a lot on this program about which candidates are standing for those biblical values, which team is going to actually move our nation back to those biblical values and not towards this socialist, communist, Marxist worldview that has been put forth by the Biden campaign and most of the Democrat Party throughout the country.
Watch Tonight
And as we were headed to break, we’re talking about what to watch for tonight. You guys are going to be on a network tonight. We’ll have links where people can watch you all as the returns are coming in. But what are some of the key races or ballot initiatives other than president? We know President, obviously. But what about some of those key Senate races you all were talking about?
David:
Well, let’s go to President first, because this deals with the whole reporting process. The reporting process may be really goofy tonight. And let me set it up this way. When you look at the states are out there actually 51 Electoral College entities, 50 states plus Washington, DC, who has 3 electoral votes; when you look at those 51 entities that will be watching, the presidential winner will need at least 270 electoral votes to win.
So when you look at the way things look right now, it looks like that Biden has about 16 states that are going to be pretty much his, Trump has about 17 states that are going to be pretty much his and if you’re a Trump supporter, you say, oh, good, he’s already ahead. No, not necessarily.
Because Biden in his pocket, he states like California and New York, which are very large electoral numbers. So you’re looking at states that are pretty much, you know, Oklahoma’s going to go with Trump, Alabama is going to go with Trump and Delaware’s going to go with Biden, etc. So you pretty much know where they’re going.
There’s really 14 states that we’re looking at tonight. And in those 14 states, those are called battleground states; that’s where we’ll be paying attention. And some of those battleground states include places like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Now, here’s the problem with those two battleground states.
BattleGround States
They’re going to be crucial for how the election turns out, because you actually need those two states on the winning side, in other words, Trump or Biden will need that to win. But they do not start counting their mail-in ballots until the polls close that night. And other States like Texas, they start counting mail-in ballots when they get them. So a lot of states are already going to be way ahead, and we’ve seen super high record breaking early voting numbers. So a lot of the States have already been tabulated that.
But when you go into some of the battleground states and Pennsylvania and Wisconsin being that, their state law does not allow them to start counting those early votes as absentee votes until the polls close at 7pm their local time; which means they’re going to have to open double envelopes, t they’re going to have to go through and tally individually by hand, it’s going to be a long process.
Now, if it turns out that a huge number of people vote in person in those States, then the mail-in ballots don’t have that big effect. Let’s say that 85% ends up voting on Election Day, we just don’t know what that’s going to be, we don’t know what the turnout is going to be in those two States, so we don’t know how important the balance will be. So it could be that because the battleground states like that we may not know for a good while. But then on the other hand, those states may have such overwhelming numbers turnout today right now, that tonight we’re going to be able to call those States fairly early. So those are key states to watch for.
Another thing that will watch for in the presidential election: if any of the states that President Trump won four years ago, if they flipped to Biden states, then you probably going to have a short night for Biden. So looking at States like Florida, if Florida goes for Biden instead of Trump, oh man, that’s a big setback for the Trump campaign.
Arizona and Texas
If Arizona goes for Biden, instead of Trump, they went Trump last time, if they go Biden this time, that again is a big setback. That means that Trump is going to have to pick up a bunch of other States that are expected to go to Biden to overcome the loss of those electoral votes. So those are some of the things we’ll be watching tonight is the battleground states.
And by the way, Rick, this may not be good news to you. But as of today, Texas is considered a battleground State, a toss up between Biden and Trump. So for those of us that live in Texas and we’ve lived here for the last several decades, we’ve been a reliably Red State. That’s not the way it looks in polls right now. It may turn out that we’re still a reliable Red State when the nights over, but again, in polling, that’s one of the battleground states.
So battleground states that we’re looking at will be Florida and Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Maine, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Texas, Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nevada. Those are states that will probably decide the outcome tonight more so than other reliably Red reliably Blue State. So that’s what we’re looking at present initially. And that’s why we may not know results overall, until even days from now, depends on how long it takes to count ballots in some of those States.
Rick:
And I know some of the reaction might be Texas couldn’t possibly be a toss up, these polls are so incredibly wrong. I actually think that’s right, that they’re wrong. But you can’t take that chance. So, whatever state you’re in, make sure you get out and vote today.
This is no time to just assume that the polls are wrong and Trump’s got it in the bag and your senators got it in the bag. Not at all! This thing could go any which way. And not only that, there’s a ton of potential fraud out there, so we need to win so big that the fraud can’t overtake it in all these races.
Texas a Toss Up?
So to all of our Texas friends that ought make you a little worried when they’re saying Texas is a toss up, worried enough that you get out there and vote. Everybody needs to get out there and vote. Go get in line, stand in line, no matter how many hours you got to stand in line. Think about all those who paid the ultimate price so that you would have the right to stand in line, the right to go vote. Let’s exercise that right. It is a duty.
Quick break, guys, we’ll be right back talking about some of the other races out there, will be looking at those battleground races tonight. And be sure to get the link today at our website so you can watch David and Tim as the returns come in. You’re listening to WallBuilders Live.
A Moment From American History
This is David Barton with another moment from America’s history. While some Christians anticipate the upcoming elections and the opportunity to be involved in civil government, others view Election Day is no different from any other. Although they cherish their religious liberties, they see no mandate to be involved in government further than to pray. Such individuals need to consider the words of founder John Witherspoon who wisely observed, “There was not a single instance in history in which civil liberty was lost and religious liberty preserved.”
While it is true that every Christian should at least pray for our government, founder John Hancock noted there was more. He charged, “I urge you by all that is dear, by all that is honorable, by all that is sacred, not only that you pray, but also that you act.” Therefore, in this year’s elections in addition to praying, make sure that you vote.

Rick:
We’re back on WallBuilders Live, Election Day today. Make sure your voices being heard, your values counted. David, Tim, a lot more than just a presidential race on the ballot today.
David:
Yeah, one of the things we talked about even yesterday was how that Judges is so important to determine the righteousness of a nation. And we’ve seen really good Judges appointed under President Trump. Well, whether that continues, let’s say that Trump does win the election.
Predictions
And my prediction going into this is, I think Trump will win with a comfortable electoral vote margin. So let’s say he does win the election, and we’ve got a lot of internal polling that we’re privy to that’s very different from the national polling that gives me some optimism in some states that are considered battleground States.
But let’s say Trump does win. Let’s say he loses a Senate, right now democrats need to pick up three seats to take that Senate control away. Let’s say the Trump loses the Senate then imagine what kind of Judges you’re going to have if Trump nominates in the Senate confirms.
Let’s say you have a Democrat Senate, you’re not going to see an Amy Coney Barrett come through, you’re just not going to see those kinds of Judges. So that would shift the political landscape significantly if Republicans cannot maintain the presidency and the Senate.
So as you look at the Senate, the Democrats have to defend 12 seats, the Republicans have to defend 22. So Republicans have twice as many battlegrounds for them to defend as the Democrats do. And so as we look at the Senate races, there’s 14 that we’ll be keeping an eye on that could change the balance of power.
Now, there’s two out of Georgia, one out of South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Kansas, Maine, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Montana. States like Iowa and Montana, the Democratic Senatorial Committee has poured tens of millions into defeating Joni Ernst to get her out of there, the same with Steve Daines in Montana, those are sitting Republicans. So if Republicans end up losing three seats, it’ll change the balance of power significantly, at least the outcome, the product we get. So that’s what we’re looking at the Senate races tonight.
Senate Races
Rick:
And one thing to think about too on those Senate races, and as we go down ballot to these other races as well, there is always a coattail if a presidential race wins big, but local politics can sometimes go against that trend. So you could have people in a state like Montana vote for President Trump and against the senate candidate when you have the millions and millions of dollars like you’re talking about being poured into those States. So again, in those states, you can’t take this for granted. You got to show up and vote.
David:
You know, one of the good examples is Montana, Montana is projected to go for President Trump by 15 point margin. But right now the Senate, that’s a Republican margin, that’s a red State in that sense. But the Senate race between Daines and Bullock is a toss up, and that’s a 15 point differential. So you got a strong Republican senator, they’re very strong Christian guy, good guy, who is 15 points behind Trump in that state and in some ways doesn’t make sense except they have spent so much against Daines and so much for Bullock that it’s taken the eyes off of whether Republican or Democrat and made it a personality race.
And so that’s one of those that could be the same thing in Iowa, Iowa is pretty reliably Republican statewide. And yet for a statewide race for per Senate, you have Joni Ernst, she’s a Republican incumbent there who is in a real battle. So you’re exactly right, Rick, you can’t just assume that because we’re Red State that we’re going to vote red all the way down. And especially at the US senate level where so much tens and literally hundreds of millions have been poured in the Senate races across the nation. This is a real battleground tonight.
Congressional Seats
Tim:
When even beyond the Senate, it’ll be interesting to look at some congressional seats. When President Trump at the debate reference to Joe Biden that Nancy might lose the house, it’s interesting, just thinking again, of kind of some of the polling that is national, and then some things that are internal polling that not everybody in America gets to see. But it makes you wonder if President Trump knows something about the polling in some of these States that is contrary to what the news is portraying.
Because why would he advertise that Republicans might take the House back, that Nancy Pelosi might lose her majority seats. Unless there was some indication that gives him thought or confidence, there’s a chance that that some of these congressional seats could swing back the other way. So that there’s going to be a lot of interesting things watching on this election night.
David:
And by the way, the Republicans need to gain 20 seats nationally out of the 435. If they gain 20, they’ll regain control the House, which would be a significant shift. My gut prediction is based on what we’ve been able to see internally, is that that President Trump probably wins and we probably maintain the Senate and we were a good chance we’ll gain the House. But those are all battlegrounds, it all depends on turnout and what people do when they vote. But that’s kind of just maybe an optimistic prediction on what we think it’s going to do.
Rick:
Alright, quick break, guys, we’ll be right back for our final segment on Election Day. Once again, folks, if it’s not past the time of polls being closed in your State, and you can get in line before that final minute. You might stay two hours after if it’s seven o’clock like it is in our State. As long as you’re in line before that deadline, then you’ll still be able to have your voice heard today and your values counted. Stay with us, we’ll be right back on WallBuilders Live.
Constitution Alive!
Have you ever wanted to learn more about the United States Constitution but just felt like, man, the classes are boring or it’s just that old language from 200 years ago or I don’t know where to start? People want to know but it gets frustrating because they don’t know where to look for truth about the Constitution either.
Well, we’ve got a special program for you available now called Constitution Alive! with David Barton and Rick Green. And it’s actually a teaching done on the Constitution at Independence Hall in the very room where the Constitution was framed. We take you both to Philadelphia, the cradle of liberty and Independence Hall and to the WallBuilders library, where David Barton brings the history to life to teach the original intent of our Founding Fathers.
We call it the Quickstart Guide to the Constitution, because in just a few hours through these videos, you will learn the citizens guide to America’s Constitution, you’ll learn what you need to do to help save our constitutional republic. It’s fun, it’s entertaining and it’s going to inspire you to do your part to preserve freedom for future generations. It’s called Constitution Alive! with David Barton and Rick Green. You can find out more information on our website now and wallbuilders.com.
Rick:
We’re back here on WallBuilders Live. Final segment of the day before Election night, and you can continue to listen to David and Tim’s coverage of this. Watch them live tonight on Victory Channel. And guys, I guess for the state legislators across the country, this will be our last election before redistricting, so who wins the state legislators is going to be a big deal too.
Redistricting
David:
And to put that in context, redistricting is when every 10 years required by the US Constitution, State legislators divide up the population in their State to tell you how many House representatives you get in the US Congress and how many people are in each district. So as a result of what the census is showing right now, Texas will pick up three additional US congressional seats, and that means three other States lost seats, because there’s only 435 total, they’re re-appropriate among all the States.
So at this point, that makes Texas by far the second largest State in the union with regard to electoral votes. That will put us at 39 votes, we’ve been at 36. California has 54, I think California is actually losing a congressman, I think because of all the people moved out.
So Texas that puts us far ahead of Florida, New York, everybody else, we’re strongly second. This is why Democrats have poured hundreds of millions of dollars into the State of Texas and why it’s a battleground. Because at the State legislative level, if they pick up 9 Statehouse seats, not US congressional, but Statehouse seats, then they can help control the redistricting process. The Republicans have it, this had been a strong Red state.
But that means if they can change redistricting, then no longer do you have a safe 39 votes for a Republican for President. If this State were to be redistricted and suddenly become Blue, then for the next 12 years, it would be extremely difficult for any Republican to win the presidency if they can’t carry Texas. And if Texas becomes a Blue state, that’s huge.
So while this is not in popular thinking, this isn’t political thinking, which is why the Democrats for three straight election cycles have been pouring in hundreds of millions to try to take back the State House. Because Rick, as you mentioned, redistricting is really big. So in this election, we’re also watching those states that might flip from R to D or D to R, because that changes the way the electoral votes will be for the next 10 years after this, which is the next three elections essentially. So that is a big deal.
Governors
There are also a number of governors that are up that looked like they’re uncontested battles. And having a governor that’s Republican or Democrat also has a big effect on redistricting, because that will sign the redistricting bill. So this is why state battlegrounds are so big, and we’re looking at a number of those tonight as well. We’ll keep up on top of that.
Also in the States, you have literally hundreds of ballot initiatives that will be voted on, everything from marijuana use to now, there’s, I think five states that are voting on whether they’re going to start using hallucinogenic drugs. We’ve always known that marijuana was a gateway drug to harder drugs, and so now five states are moving from marijuana to harder drugs on legal use.
We also have some States with second amendment issues. We have States like Colorado where you have a very Blue State but there’s enough people in the State that want essentially partial birth abortion banned that they were able to get it on the ballot. So the State has a chance to override the legislature and protect life in Colorado.
So there’s a number of those initials we watching as well tonight. It’s going to be a very full night and we will try to keep on top of that. And there’s just a lot of places where that we have opportunity to advance some really solid Christian God-loving constitutional biblical worldview people. You know, governor of North Carolina, it could be Dan Forest, which be great pickup. So things like that we’ll be watching tonight.
Excellent Election Coverage
Tim:
And guys, as we point out with the election coverage tonight that there’s a lot of news out It’s and really social media, everybody’s going to be covering this thing. And so there’s a lot of different voices that you can hear cover things tonight. But one of the things is very special about some of the coverage that we get to be a part of on the Victory Channel is it is Christians covering things from a Christian and biblical perspective, as well as being on the forefront of exactly what’s breaking at the time it’s breaking. So for Christians and believers, this could be a really encouraging place to come and be encouraged by some of the things that are happening as you’re hearing the very breaking news as it’s unfolding before you.
Dad, as you mentioned, last presidential election, we were the very first outlet to call it for President Trump because we just saw the numbers coming in and knew what they meant. And we said, okay, we recognize what’s happening, President Trump is going to be the winner based on what we’re seeing, and that was an hour before anybody else. So I’m just telling you, you might get an hour extra sleep tonight. If you tune in to our program, we might call it before everybody else, but it still will be a great time hanging out and getting the information and all from a Christian perspective.
It’s Election Day – Use Your Voice To Vote Your Biblical Values
Rick:
Well, an hour extra sleep is definitely a good motivation for me. So we’ll be watching tonight. Thank you, guys. We’ll have the links at our website today. Folks, make sure you get out and vote. Post on Facebook, encourage your friends and family to do the same. Whatever social media tools you use, get the word out there, drag your friends and family to the polls. Let’s make sure we finish strong tonight. Looking forward to watching those returns tonight and then we’ll have more coverage throughout the week here on WallBuilders Live, looking at the results from tonight as we head into the aftermath of this very big election.
Thanks for listening today. You’ve been listening to WallBuilders Live!
