Faith And The Culture
Rick:
You”ve found your way to the intersection of faith and the culture. This is WallBuilders Live! You found us on a Friday, we call it Good News Friday here at WallBuilders! It”s a chance to catch up with some of the great things happening in the nation and around the world.
We’re here with David Barton, America’s premier historian and 0ur founder here at WallBuilders. Also, Tim Barton is with us, national speaker, pastor, and president of WallBuilders. And my name is Rick Green, I’m a former Texas state legislator.

We’re going to do that throughout our Good News Friday today. Â You can find out more about us at WallBuildersLive.com and WallBuilders.com. I’m sure by the end of this program you’re going to love this good news so much you’re going to want more of it.

Guys, let’s jump in. David’s up first with some good news. Â David?
Fort Bragg
David:
Well, we are going to the military today. Â It deals with what we would call traditional values. Â And traditional values often encompass things like we had before before the court became an activist court. In other words, it’s it’s kind of pro-life and pro-family and pro-faith and pro-marriage and kind of those things before the progressives really got hostile in recent years.
So if we back up to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Â Fort Bragg is where your elite warriors are. That’s where you’ve got all the special forces guys and all those guys there Fort Bragg.
There is a chaplain at Fort Bragg. His name is Scott Squires and Chaplain Squire and his chaplain assistant and others. There was a marriage retreat that was planned. Â And the marriage retreat included same-sex couples.
Chaplain Squires just could not be part of that because his endorsing agency will not allow him to participate as most Christian denominations do not allow their pastors to participate in homosexual marriages or weddings.
Chaplain squier’s could not participate in that. Â So he passed it off to someone else who got it done. Â In the process of that, I think there was a three day delay in making the announcement on when the retreat was going to be held. But because of that they brought him up on charges and people complained that he was being biased against homosexuals and whatnot.
Charges Brought For Not Performing A Same-Sex Marriage
Look, it’s a matter of religious conscience. It’s the same kind of thing that happened with Jack Phillips and the decision that was one that the U.S. Supreme Court and others. You can’t force someone to violate their religious conscience. Â And that’s just been America’s position for ever and ever basically.
So, the investigator said he needs to be court martialed for this. Â For not instantly accommodating homosexual demands including homosexuals in a marriage retreat. He needs to be court martialed and thrown out.
Rick:
Because that would be the tolerant thing.
David:
Yeah, that’s right. That’s a tolerant thing. Â We talked about this years and years and years ago. Â Those who claim tolerance and those who yell the loudest for tolerance usually don’t want it.
Religious Conscience
And that’s the way it’s turned out. We know that we looked even in passage way back then in Genesis 19. We looked at passages in Judges 19 where the homosexual groups at that time said, Â “Hey, we don’t want to be part of this. We want to run this.”
And so that really is the nature of this movement and has been for 3500 years. That’s just the history of this movement. So while millennial and other younger voters are kind of caught up in the tolerance thing. It just doesn’t work out that way in reality.
Tolerance Actually Comes From Christianity
Tolerance actually comes from Christianity and biblical teachings. And that’s where you tolerate other people’s conscience. You don’t force them to participate in something that violates their conscience.
And so that’s where you have latitude for for different views to be there. Â You just don’t force others participate. But that’s not been the LGBTQ movement. Â They want coerced participation.
So they actually recommend the court martial of this chaplain. Â Great chaplain there. Again, with the greatest warriors at a great base. And now that has been overturned.
So the the investigators recommendation and Scott Squires has been cleared of everything. Â The military came in and cleared him of all of those charges. So the good news is he’s not going to be thrown out of the military for adhering to his rights of religious conscience. Â Quite frankly for adhering to religious values. The good news is that this thing in the military, the intolerance that we saw four, five, six years ago over the last 12 to 18 months is really starting to turn. Â And we’re starting to see it go back the other direction. And much more a religion friendly and Bible friendly direction and that’s great news.
Trump Administration Bring Tolerance For People of Faith
David:
Well, your your last statement there. Â Actually, I guess you could tell what my next question was going to be. Â Because I was wondering now if you kind of look at the timeline over the last even eight or ten years. You know, definitely in the Obama Administration no support for these kind of guys. Â Really an encouragement to get them out. And in fact, a lot of generals and others were replaced for that very reason.
But so you’re saying that even in just the first two years the Trump administration we’re already seeing that  policy turnaround. And it’s across the military we have people in the Air Force and others that have faced the similar situation. So we’re seeing some Chaplin victories. And you think that is somewhat tied to going all the way to the top. Who the chief executive is.
A Big Difference Is Being Made In The Military
David:
Well, the chief executive makes a huge difference. It actually started in the last year of Obama’s administration. It started when a friend of ours, a U.S. congressman, who was chairman of one of the big military subcommittees and Armed Services started calling the four stars in from the Pentagon. Â He said, “Why are you so hostile to religion?”
And they would say, Â “We’re not hostile to religion.” Â And he would roll out all of these examples and they’d say, “Oh my gosh. Let us check on that.”
So what happened was he was able to get each of the branches to do a review of their military treatment of religion. Â Point out the hostility that was there. It”s undeniable and come out with new directives for the entire military. And that has gone through each branch.
So in the last year of the Obama Administration they came out with these new directives that really started to push back. Â Because the Obama Justice Department, the Obama military, etc., were very, very hostile. So it started changing at that point in time in that last year.
And then before Trump was elected, Tim and I were part of a group that we got about 137-138 military guys together with Trump before the election. And these were four star generals on down. Â And retired generals and all of these guys concerned about the direction of the military. And Trump allowed us to have two hours with them and then we ended up making it one hour.
Trump Is Standing Up For Our Military”s Rights
In that period of time we really laid out several things in the military toward how hostile it was toward faith based and how hostile it was toward chaplains. We actually had a chaplain there meeting with now President Trump, then candidate Trump, who is being prosecuted at the time. It looked like he was going to end his 20 year career because of this kind of nonsense against him.
Trump said that absolutely he’s going to change that and he’s not going to put up that kind of intolerance toward traditional faith. That has been the case. We see nothing out of the Trump administration except support for traditional religious moral values in the military.
It’s been really good. So it really started in the last year with a Congressman who who just did a great job. He hasn’t told me if  I can use his name so I won’t. But he did a great job of getting this thing started and now it’s continued for the past two years under president Trump.
Rick:
Good to see it happening. We’re going to take a quick break and come back and Tim Barton will have some good news for. Stay with us, you’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

Argentina Leading The Way For Pro-Life Movements
Rick:
Thanks for staying with us here on WallBuilders Live. It’s Good News Friday today. Tim Barton has our next piece of good news. Tim, go for it.
Tim:
All right guys, this is something out of the nation and we’ve talked much on the program about the positive things happening with the right to life in America, right? With how many states have passed laws protecting unborn children in their states.
Since 2010 we have just seen a massive influx of pro-life people being elected in state legislators, to the U.S. Congress, and the positive things happening because of it. Well, this is something positive in the pro-life sense happening out of America.
This is actually in Argentina. It”s pretty unique, it probably didn’t get a lot of press coverage because it’s not in America or because it’s pro-life. I’m not sure, maybe both. Senators in Argentina voted against making abortion on demand legal. In Argentina abortion is only legal when the life or health of the mother is in danger or when the pregnancy is the result of rape.
This is amazing when we talk about nations that are first world, second world, third world nations. Argentina is not one of the nations that generally you think of it like, “Wow, that’s a really strong first world nation.” Yet, even though we might look at them and not see them as advanced as we are in technology, and industry, and commerce they have done something quite remarkable in protecting life and saying, “No, it’s got to be the health of the mother or in the situation of rape.”
Even though we could have some disagreement with them on some level about this. This is a huge step in the right direction protecting life. Again, it”s something that we’ve seen a lot of good pro-life things happen in America. But this is something we have not seen in America yet that we would love to see. Really cool that this is happening in other nations where other nations are recognizing the value of life and protecting the life of unborn children.
Rick:
Maybe we can learn from them now, right? I guess we kind of exported for many years the atrocity of abortion to other nations. Maybe it’s time for us to look at some of those nations like Argentina in this case on the life issue. Time for us to learn from them.
Tim:
Yeah, I think you’re exactly right. A lot of times we have American politicians who say, “Hey, we should look at these other nations and what they’re doing.” Usually, they are referring to the economic position of socialism, or health care, or universal things where the government has come and mandated, dictated, and controlled as opposed to some of these moral positions of defending the life of the unborn.
Certainly, Argentine is not a nation we would think, “Hey, let’s look to them as an example.” Yet, in this case they’ve set a pretty great example of recognizing the value of the life of the unborn child. Which again, is just great news.
Rick:
Very good news on the life front end somewhere outside of the U.S. You know, I say that on Good News Friday every time at the beginning, “Good news across the U.S. and around the world.” Thank you Tim for making me honest with some around the world. Good news there. David, you”re next.
Millennial Women Want Restrictions On Abortions
David:
I”m going to go from around the world back home and it relates to the abortion issue. It’s a new CBS poll that shows that among millennial women, 72% want some type of restriction on abortion. I don’t know that we’re necessarily importing Argentina views into America but at least maybe into millennial women- at least a higher percentage than the general population.
Tim:
I would point out, if they want some kind of restriction that means that we’re moving away from the idea of abortion on demand. Where for any reason whatsoever you just go and get an abortion. It doesn’t matter how long the term of the pregnancy has been. It really is good news moving that direction away from abortion on demand.
Obviously, we would look at abortion and go, “This is a very evil practice no matter the situation.” Killing an unborn child who has done nothing, that is always a problem. However, in the idea of saying that we’re at least taking a step in the right direction- so, until we have abolished abortion we still have a major fight that we need to engage in. We need to participate in this fight to end the murder of unborn children.
But at least we’re moving the right direction saying that we no longer want abortion on demand- at least for this younger generation Millennials 72 percent of females are saying, “Yeah, there should be some level of restriction.” That really is good news.
A Life Is Always Valuable
David:
And by the way, let me add to that if you deal with millennials or if you are a millennial etc. What Tim is talking about and reversing abortion on demand, that is Roe v. Wade. And we saw just a couple of weeks ago on a recent poll that most Americans do not associate Roe v. Wade with abortion on demand. They didn’t really know what Roe v. Wade was-
Tim:
Roe v. Wade is a Supreme Court decision back in 1973 where dealing with abortion and the U.S. Supreme Court determined that abortion on demand should be legal in America, that women should be allowed at whatever point they want to engage in this to end- in this case, to “terminate” the pregnancy but ultimately it means to murder the unborn child.
We now see people moving away from this idea of just freely “terminating,”killing the unborn child, freely terminating the pregnancy. So, again, going the right direction which is really good news.
Roe Vs. Wade
Rick:
If for any reason putting restrictions on abortion then that means that they’re acknowledging this is wrong, right? So, they still may be struggling with when to restrict and when not to because they’re trying to balance between the situation and what they know to be an evil practice of taking the life of the unborn.
But by acknowledging there should be some restrictions, they’re acknowledging it’s wrong and it’s evil and so hopefully we can get them to get a better balance on, like you said Tim, it”s always evil to do this no matter what the situation is. Quick break guys. We’ll be right back with more good news. Stay with us, you’re listening to WallBuilders Live!
Tim:

Revival Has Broken Out In The Military
Rick:
Welcome back, thanks for staying with us on this Good News Friday here on WallBuilders Live. David Barton”s got some good news, David?
David:
I’m going to go back to the military for a bit. Now, instead of going to North Carolina we’re coming over to Missouri to Fort Leonard Wood which  is one of the larger training bases in the United States. It’s a great place. I’ve spoken at Fort Leonard Wood before. A great guy is there. I could tell the story but I think I’m just going to read part of the story because they say it so well.
The story headlined, this the headline on the news story. It says 1,800 soldiers have professed faith in Christ in Missouri Army base in the last six months. So that just by itself is a pretty good eye popper to start with.
The article says, “On Sunday, U.S. Army Chaplain Capt. Jose Rondon took to Facebook to rejoice in the fact that nearly 400 soldiers came to faith in Christ that day. And that total is only a small part of a broader revival that has been occuring on at Fort Leonard Wood.”
They continued, “Today, 380 Soldiers came to salvation in Christ once and for all. Thanks CH Tony Cech for the excellent, clear, and powerful messages during the three services,” Rodon wrote in a post. “Since March 11 2018, we have seen 1,839 Soldiers coming to Christ.”
Then the article continues, “In his Facebook post, Rondon shared a video that showed the Main Post Chapel at Fort Leonard Wood packed with soldiers singing along to worship music.”God’s doing an unbelievable work through our military at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.,” Rondon added in his post. “May God bring the same powerful conviction of sin and love for Him that we are experiencing at Main Post Chapel all throughout our Nation and His world. Thanks for your love and prayers!”
So, the article continues to just roll on and say that one day 307 soldiers gave their lives to Christ. It’s just pretty amazing stuff. So, this is good news happening in the military that you’ve really got a revival that’s broken out in Fort Leonard Wood.
Christianity Is Having Amazing Impact On People”s Lives
Tim:
What’s really interesting too, because we’ve had on our program many times some of these religious liberty attorneys. Whether it be from First Liberty in Dallas, or our Liberty Counsel, or Alliance Defending Freedom, or so many of these guys who actually are fighting for the religious liberty of all Americans including our military.
The military has been a place that has been fairly hostile to so many situations. Â To some of the chaplains and to Christianity in general. And so and this– not only is there not hostility that we are hearing about this. It actually is a very positive counter thought to this idea of “Wait a second. Â We don’t want Christianity.” No, in this one, Christianity is full fledged and having some amazing impact on people’s lives. Which you’re right. This is incredible news.
David:
And along with that news you’re not hearing any kind of outburst from a military religious freedom foundation that these other groups saying, “This is wrong.”Because this happened at church on the fort. Â And it’s -there’s just nothing they can say to it. It’s got to drive them crazy. They have to hate it with all the hostility they had been there. But again, there is just nothing they’re going to be able to do about this which is absolutely wonderful.
Rick:
I just wonder  as as commanders on a base like that, when you see the difference in an individual that is now living out the scripture about no greater love that you can have than to lay down your life for your friends.  And to live out the Christian faith when they see the positive difference in those lives. Are they going to also be excited about this revival that’s happening? Certainly, those results speak for themselves.
We’ll be right back, folks. Â Good news when we return. You’re listening to WallBuilders Live.
Join The Bartons and the Greens in Israel
Tim:
Hey guys. What are you doing January 28 through February 7th? If you said you don’t know, let me give you an idea. We are going to Israel. Rick Green, my dad, David Barton, Tim Barton, our families are going and we would love you to go with us.
We are going to the Holy Land. Â If you’ve never been to Israel, this is something as a Christian that will make you forever read your Bible differently to see where Jesus walked, where he lived, where he did miracles. Â Where so much of the Bible took place. If you’ve ever read the Bible and you’ve given a mental picture, the mental picture will not do justice of what happens when you’re actually on the ground.
If you’ve ever thought about the story of David and Goliath and you’ve envisioned what it looks like, we’re going to go to the actual field where it took place. There are so many things that you will see that literally makes the Bible come to life. Â In fact, that’s the name of the tour group we’re going with is the Bible Comes to Life. Go to see him. Jacksboro.com. You can click on the link. It has an Israel itinerary all kinds of details.
Rick:
Hope to see you on this trip this coming year. Â Welcome back.
Sidewalk Counselors
Rick:
Thanks for staying with us here on WallBuilders Live on this Good News Friday. Tim Barton got the last piece of good news for the day. Tim.
Tim:
All right guys this is an interesting piece coming out of New York. New York certainly has not been a bastion of religious liberty or civil liberty. They’ve had a lot of problems over recent years.
And this is actually good news from something that was a problem in New York. There were 13 what are called sidewalk counselors. Â Sidewalk counselors are people that normally will stand outside of abortion facilities. They will try to talk to women that are going into the abortion facility, are thinking about an abortion, or trying to figure out where they’re going to do. Â
The sidewalk counselors will talk to them about other options about maybe even personal value for them and their life, their unborn child. Â The pregnancy resource centers that are around. People that are wanting to adopt kids. All of these different options that are out there.
“This Is Not A Nation Where You Can Choose Your Point Of View.”
And actually the attorney general. Â This happened in 2017. The good news is now because of what’s happened since this happened in 2017. Â The attorney general who his name is Eric Schneiderman. I think that is how you say his last name. But Eric Schneiderman came out and said, Â “Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! You can’t be out here in front of these places. Now we know that this is a public sidewalk. But you can’t be out here doing this.”
And this is one of his quotes. He says, “This is not a nation where you can choose your point of view.”
Meaning, that you can’t come here and tell people that they shouldn’t go for an abortion.
David:
Wow.
Tim:
Which is just ludicrous on so many levels. Well, kind of maybe a weird, interesting irony in the midst of this. He had to actually resign shortly after that amid allegations of his own sexual misconduct.
So it really seems ironic that you’re going to tell other people their business when you have so many problems. Â It reminds me of that verse where Jesus talked about the plain guy. Right? Don’t worry about the speck in your brother’s eye if you”ve got a plank in your own. Â That probably would have been a good verse for him.
Thomas More Law Center Defeats New York Attorney General
Nonetheless. So there was a court case dealing with these 13 sidewalk counselors. Â The Thomas Moore Law Center is the group that took this up. And actually the headline says, “The Thomas More Law Center defeats New York attorney general’s ballyhooed attempt to silence pro-life sidewalk counselors.”
And so the short of it is that they were able to win this decision. Â That no, you can’t come and you can’t limit someone’s free speech. Public sidewalk. Â They’re allowed to have a different point of view.
So it is really good news that these sidewalk counselors are now free to go back and do what they want. Obviously, it’s a little scary the fact that the attorney general came out and said. “You’re not allowed to have a different point of view when it comes to abortion.”
So some major battles still need to be fought. However, it is really good news for these 13 sidewall counselors that they are now able to back on the sidewalk counseling women that are seeking help in the midst of this very traumatic time in their life. So again good news that this was reversed by a higher court and that these individuals are back making a difference in the lives of young women seeking help.
