Rick:

You find your way to the intersection of faith and the culture. That intersection means that we’re applying our faith to the culture and we’re doing that with a biblical, historical and constitutional perspective. Very simply means whatever the subject of the day is, whatever the hot topic of the day is, we’re taking on that issue, looking at what the Bible says about it, what does the constitution say about it and what can we learn from history.

My name is Rick Green, I’m a former Texas legislator and America’s constitution coach. And I’m here with David Barton, he’s America’s premier historian and our founder here at WallBuilders and also with Tim Barton, national speaker and pastor and president of WallBuilders. Now, if you’re not sure what WallBuilders means, it comes from a scripture in Nehemiah that says arise and rebuild the walls that we may no longer be a reproach.

What we’ve been doing here WallBuilders for decades is working to rebuild the foundation of America, bring back those foundational principles that make a society free, prosperous, all the things that will make a culture thrive, those are the biblical principles that our founders put in place from the beginning. So, we’re restoring those, we’re making sure those constitutional principles are revived.

We do that here on the radio program, having guests on the program and talking about whatever that hot topic is and applying that perspective. Our Good News Friday programs that we’re doing, just like today is an opportunity to point out where things are being done right in the culture and celebrate those victories that are often overlooked. But we appreciate you being a part of this and joining us today.

Be sure to visit our website today at wallbuilderslive.com. That’s a great place to make a contribution. There’s a button right there at the top, right when you go to that homepage and it’s a way for you to come alongside us. We’re a listener supported program and those contributions are what make this program possible. That’s how we’re able to reach so many people across the country and around the world. It’s also what makes it possible for us to train young leaders in our leadership training program, to do our pastors briefings and our legislators’ trainings and all the different things that we do. Thank you so much for contributing to help make that possible.

Alright, we’re going to dive in our first piece of good news, David Barton. Go ahead, brother.

David:

I’m going to jump into mainly polling today. And it deals with a lot of stuff we’ve been hearing in the news recently, especially about what we’ve seen with cops, getting rid of cops, defunding cops, getting rid of police departments, all the noise has been made about that and how Americans are fed up with cops, etc. So, new polling comes out and the question is, do Americans valued the role of the police and do they worry that the increasing criticism of cops will make their communities less safe? So, this is going to be a good indication of whether they think cops are good or bad, having cops is good or bad.

Bottom line is, overwhelming majority of Americans still believe cops are really, really important. As a matter of fact, 63% of Americans, they regard being a police officer as one of the most important jobs in the country today. Now, with all the noise, all the stuff that’s gone on a media, social media, elsewhere, that’s only down five points from what it was three years ago. So, it’s still really high, even despite all the criticism.

And so, when specifically asked, do you think that the criticism of place is going to make your community less safe? Will it produce public safety? Guess which group was most concerned about the criticism of place making their communities less safe and is counterintuitive to what we would see in the news? It is the black community. The black community is the one that is the most concerned about the current criticism of the place. Now, I find that really interesting, because when you listen to media coverage, you kind of would think that blacks in general are our against police. And this goes to the coverage of the media bias and this is what I think is so cool about this poll, is it really does point out the media biases here.

And now this poll does point out that the younger the person is, the more critical they are of the cops. But that means that basically, your older generations of Americans, black Americans, white Americans, Hispanic Americans doesn’t matter, the older the generation, the more respect they have for cops, despite all the criticism there and they realize that nobody is perfect and that mistakes happen. But the older generation has been through a whole lot more than the younger generation has been through and they see cops as being really critical and really important.

So, when you break it down by specifically those demographics, is really significant to see that there is still strong support for the cops. People still believe that having cops makes their community safer and they still want cops. So, that’s one side. Now, you break it down, not just racially, but break it down by political demography. If you do, where do you think the Democrats are and republicans are on believing that police are really important?

Rick:

I would think they’re not the same, just based on the leadership the way and I’m assuming the polling is individuals, not public officials that are out there in the media, but man, it just seems like Republicans are defending cops and saying, we need more cops, we need more training, more funding for cops, not less funding and Democrats are saying the opposite. So, you’re asking what about the people at home that call themselves Democrats or call themselves Republicans.

Tim:

And I would think the majority of both parties want the police, maybe fewer Democrats. Because you do see a little bit more from the exasperation in the protests, the rioters and looters, so, maybe fewer from the more liberal side. But I actually think once you get outside of politics, most people want police, because they recognize there’re safety being offered by police officers. Doesn’t mean that they always like them or agree with them or think there might need to be more training whatever else, but I would think the number is probably fairly high on both sides.

David:

Well, that’s what I would have thought, but I was real surprised, now 82% of Republicans thought that. But just right at half of Democrats thought that being a policeman was an important job. They just don’t think it’s an important position, important job. They just don’t think is significant. I was surprised, only 52% of Democrats, I thought it’d be much, much higher than that. So, the biggest gap that came out in this polling is not between blacks and whites. By the way, I didn’t give you those numbers. But for blacks, 67% of blacks are concerned about public safety and the criticism of the cops, that criticizing cops will reduce their safety. It’s 63% of whites and 65% of other minorities. So, it’s all in there real close together, right at two-thirds, but not with Democrats. So, Democrats, it falls to 52% think that being a cop is important, whereas 82% of republicans think that.

So, number one, I think this is really good news the nation is not nearly as fractured as and I guess maybe we think it is, because there’s a Democrat media and they don’t think cops are important anyway, so they’re the one important so much in the news, so they’re kind of dragging it down. But the other one that goes with all the mantra of Black Lives Matters, what percentage of Americans really believe that life matters? And that was a question asked by George Barna.

So, the good news is that the movement of Black Lives Matters which holds his position that Many Americans don’t think Black Lives are nearly as important as other lives and that’s why they have that movement. As it turns out, most Americans don’t buy into that at all. But the problem is only one out of three Americans believe that lives have intrinsic value. Only one out of three Americans believes that all lives matter. I was just shocked at some of the numbers here.

12%, one out of eight claims that people are merely material substance, they’re biological machines, their lives really don’t matter. Another 12% say they’re just merely a part of the universe, nothing significant about individuals. You have 37% that says life is what you make, it has no absolute value. I mean, just go through the positions. Only one out of three believe that lives really matter all equally. But on the other hand, if you have a biblical worldview, 93% of those with a biblical worldview believe that all lives do matter. They’re equal. Those attending evangelical churches, 60%. If you’re born again, Christian is 60%. If you’re a political conservative, is 50%. If you’re an older generation, is 53%. Republicans are 53%. But all in all, you’re looking at only about one in three Americans actually believe that all lives matter.

Tim:

And no, that’s not really surprising when you consider that we no longer promote biblical truth and morality. And where do we get the idea that there’s value in life? Because we were created in God’s image, right. We’re His kids, so to speak. I mean, you kind of go through this biblical, really, it’s kind of doctrine, theology, but what the Bible teaches is biblical truth. And apart from biblical truth, what we’re saying that everything is subjective and it’s how you feel and what you think and what you want. It’s not surprising that people don’t have the same level of respect and value for life. And it does indicate why we need to help promote biblical truth even more in culture. Because people that do know the Bible, 93% of them said absolutely, we recognize the value of life and I would actually challenge that the other 7% of those who are classified as having a biblical worldview, but didn’t value life, probably don’t really have a biblical worldview, because If you don’t value life, then you really don’t have a biblical worldview.

And this is where, dad, as you’re pointing out with the Black Lives Matter movement where they say that America as a nation, they’re systematic or systemic oppression, institutional oppression against blacks or African Americans or minorities. But when individuals are polled, what you discover is that most people who live in America regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, right whatever, they don’t look down on people that are different than them, or have different skin race, color, ethnicity. And so, it does show that maybe this systemic racism at least right now is not the same. This is not a 1950s, 1960s America. This is not 1860s Civil War America. So, we are in a different place and there is some good news from that. But to really get the true value of life and the decency and respect for the people that we need, it’s got to come from a biblical worldview, which means we got to get back to the Bible.

Rick:

Alright, guys, we got a quick break here. We’re going to come back and Tim Barton is got our next piece of good news. Stay with us, you’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

We’re back here on WallBuilders Live. It’s Good News Friday today and we’re going to get as much good news in the short period of time that we have with you today. But if you want more, go to wallbuilderslive.com. Click on the archive section, grab some more of those Friday programs, there’s even more good news there. But for right now Tim Barton is got the next piece of good news.

Tim:

Alright, guys, this is something that went viral in the last couple of weeks. And it really showed some of the hypocrisy and the reason I wanted to talk about on Good News Friday is, because we live in a culture that is very jaded, where there is such mixed messaging and everybody has an opinion and very few people know what’s factually true anymore.

And one of the things that we are seeing in the midst of some of these protests and riots and tearing down statues and monuments and all the stuff that’s going on is, if you are not saying certain things in a certain way, then this cancel culture wants to shut you down and oppose you. And so just kind of, for example, in this article, it talks about up in Ohio, there was a group of medical professionals and so they went out to peace… and they generally, it was a peaceful protest. They’re just marching out in front of the hospital and they’re holding up signs and it’s Black Lives Matter. And it was not a predominantly black group out there from these medical professionals. But it’s up in Cleveland, Ohio and these medical professionals are walking kind of out, just on a sidewalk out in front of the hospitals chanting Black Lives Matter.

And a black gentleman came up and he questioned them and said, do all black lives matter? And then, yes. And okay, I couldn’t hear you. Do all black lives matter? They’re all scream, yes. And he says, well, what about the black babies in abortion clinics, do their lives matter? And nobody saw anything. And he says, yeah, that’s what I thought, you don’t really care about black lives. And it says a mic drop moment. But it was so good at showing the hypocrisy of the movement, where we’re going to now come out and protest the system, we’re going to protest police, we’re going to protest. And not to say that, right, there have not been bad things that happen.

We can look back at the system and we can say, you know what, yeah, before some of the civil rights laws in 1960s, some really bad policies in place, some things needed to change. There are moments we can look in American history and say certainly things needed to change. But right now, there’s such hypocrisy and intellectual dishonesty in the current arguments. Because if you look at the fact that that people are not protesting Planned Parenthood or Margaret Singer, who was an open and avowed racist, who wanted to do abortion clinics for the eugenics, for eliminating the race of black people, right, this whole color, culture, ethnicity, I mean, she’s against it, she’s racist. And yet, you see the Black Lives Matter movement from their own website, their ‘About us’ section, they support abortion.

Well, if you look at abortion in America, the abortion clinics will kill more black babies in one year than the KKK did in their entire existence. So, there is a great level of hypocrisy. And I really appreciated this video that went viral because this black man was showing the hypocrisy that you don’t really care about all black lives, you just care about the ones that fit this certain political movement agenda.

And that certainly, is one of the challenges that we are seeing in culture is if things don’t fit inside of what the narrative is, right, this notion where you need to speak up. But if you speak up and don’t say the right thing, then they’re angry at you for saying the wrong thing. And it’s like, wait a second, were they supposed to speak or not speak? Well, you’re supposed to speak, but only if you say the things we want you to say. And so, just the fact that this black man was able to expose some of that level of hypocrisy, I really appreciate it.

Another thing along these lines. President Trump came out and said, and by the way, along the lines, just meaning like hypocrisy and standards. President Trump came out and declared Antifa as a terrorist organization, which they should be as they’re doing all this destructive stuff to cities, to monuments, tearing stuff down. And actually, president Trump came out and said that it’s now going to be a federal crime if you go on federal property and tear down any statues or monuments, you deface those things.

So, there is some good news that we are actually going to uphold the standard at some point somewhere and recognize that not everybody out there who is protesting or peaceful protesters, some of them are actually terrorist, which by their behavior, they are. So, there is some good news that we are seeing, some backbone coming from the president, from different government leaders standing up against some of this destructive nature and behavior. Certainly, we have a long way to go. But it’s really good to see some clarity now coming out from the White House and from different government officials.

Rick:

And from individuals like you were mentioning this guy, I mean talk about moral clarity. And I remember watching that video, Tim and it was like all those people that were out there, doing the little protest in their scrubs, you know, that working at the clinic, whatever it was. And I mean, they literally were just like lost when he said it. They’re like, look at each other. Like what do we do? What do we say? How do we how do we handle this? I mean, it was a mic drop moment if ever there was one. Quick break. We’ll be right back, more good news here on WallBuilders.

BREAK

You can find out more information on our website now at wallbuilders.com.

Rick:

We’re back here on WallBuilders Live. Thanks for staying with us for this Good News Friday. David Barton is got the next piece of good news. David.

David:

Still staying with polling on my side for a bit. I’m just going to use some more numbers here.

Tim:

Okay, but your polling needs to be better news in the first segment was, because the first segment wasn’t like totally good news and so, we need some better polling news. So, if there’s not good polling news, dig back into your stack and save the bad polling news for later. I’m just telling you.

Rick:

Tim is saying we don’t want kinder good news. We want some good news.

David:

Well, since this polling news deals with whether people think truth is absolute or not. I’m not going to take a position on whether this is really good news or not. I’ll have to let you guys tell, because I don’t know what I believe on this. So, I’m subjective. So, here’s the poll, is when asked if you think truth is decided by you, that you get to decide right and wrong for yourself, there is no absolute standard. The good news is that 58% of Americans say that it is up to them to determine what is right and wrong, what is moral and what is absolute truth.

Tim:

How is that a good news?

Rick:

Yeah.

David:

Because when they took this poll four years ago, it was 66%. So now…

Rick:

Okay, nice spin there. Yeah.

Tim:

We have a less dumb people today than four years ago. Okay.

David:

That’s right. Instead of 2 out of 3 to a 6 out of 10. So, the good news is it’s moving in the right direction. The bad news is there’s still 58%

Tim:

Wow. Well, okay.

Rick:

This would be the wrong topic to say all numbers, it’s all relative. It would have been there.

Tim:

So clearly, we have some work to do. And guys, I mean, this is one of the things that’s so crazy about the culture that we are seeing around us, is people who get themselves and say, yeah, I mean, truth is up to the individual. You can talk to that person for three minutes. At end of three minutes, they’re going to say, oh, yeah, I guess, that system doesn’t really work. Does it? You go, no, it doesn’t work. But it’s like they’ve never been challenged to defend that position. Because all you have to do is say, hey, do you think it’s wrong for someone to take a gun to go into an elementary school and start shooting kids? Well, of course, it’s wrong.

But wait a second. If truth is up to the individual and everybody gets to determine what’s right and wrong for themselves, what if the shooter thought that was the right thing to do? Who are you to tell them, no? Quickly, they realized that’s the dumbest system ever. Because you’re right, there’s so much contradiction. There’s so much what we recognize as basic decency and goodness that that would violate. Yeah, that system isn’t very good, we should get away from that. It’s not very hard to walk people into truth, but it’s like, we’ve never had these conversations culturally and most people haven’t been challenged to defend the stupidity of their ideas to realize how stupid they are.

So, I would say there’s still a lot of hope for a lot of misled people. Because what you find is more people just have bad information than have malice in their hearts. It’s not that they want to see bad things happen. It’s just they’ve been taught for so long. Well, everybody should determine for themselves what’s right. And they think that is caring, that that is good, that that is moral and they just don’t see the flaws in that. So, I do think there’s a lot of hope that we can help lead people in that. And dad, as you pointed out, it is good news that we are trending in the right direction. As abysmal as that number still is, we are going the right direction. So, that is good news. And it can be much better news as we engage culture around us and help guide them to understand that there has to be a fixed moral structure. There was no greater moral teacher than Jesus, we should follow his example and principles, etc, etc. We can lead them in truth, we just have to engage in culture.

Rick:

And if it went from, what do you say went from? 64 down to 58?

David:

No, 66 down to 58.

Rick:

66, so that’s more than a 10% improvement. Right?

David:

8%, you’re going to have to work on your math, bro.

Rick:

No. No. I mean, 10% of the total, like 10% of 68 will be 6.8. So, you know, we knocked off 10% of those that didn’t think moral absolutes were…  So, yeah, that is good news. Okay, let’s keep that heading in the right direction, which requires speaking truth, teaching truth, showing people those moral absolutes and reminding them we hold these truths to be self-evident. Final piece of good news coming from Tim Barton.

Tim:

Okay, guys. Well, there’s two one is coming from a federal court. Well, one of them, actually, I guess from US Senate, first. It says, the Us Senate confirmed another one of Trumps judicial nominees, Justin Walker to the second highest court, which is the D.C. court. And so, we are seeing still positive things happening in the Senate. Now, anytime we talk about Judges, it’s now with a grain of salt, because we can look at what the US Supreme Court has done in recent weeks, and almost it was like we were gut punched at moments on a couple of these decisions, where you saw Gorsuch and Roberts going the wrong direction on some issues.

David:

Now, Roberts is not necessarily surprised, we’ve seen that for a number of years. But Gorsuch, this is the first time that I know of that I really disagree with where Gorsuch is headed. So, out of the now 100 decisions he’s made, I’ve got one I disagree with, that I know about specifically. There might be others. But yeah, that was a real gut punch.

Tim:

And it was a huge case, which will have massive implications forward. With all that being said, right, it’s not that there are not other good things happening. And one of the things we’ve been talking about history is we’re never surprised when someone has a fleshly or sinful moment, because that is kind of the condition of humanity. It’s why we believe we need a savior and we need to kind of, you work out your salvation with fear and trembling. You’re trying to walk in the righteousness that God has called us to, the good works He’s called us to. But we understand that people are flawed and make mistakes. This was certainly a mistake from Gorsuch.

However, Trump is still getting some judicial picks through the Senate. And this one is also dealing with Judges. But this one deals with Texas and the Texas Supreme Court. And in the midst of all the shutdown craziness with COVID and people aren’t sure what’s happening, what they’re going to do. There were four Justices from the Texas Supreme Court that came out and they explained that pandemics do not cause the constitution to be suspended and that in Texas, they were going to uphold the Constitution and not allow orders to get out of hand from their position of upholding law.

So, that is very good news. And it’s one of the reasons why we want to have some of these good Judges in place. It’s why we if you’re in a State where you were to vote for Judges, you want to vote for the right kind of Judges because they can uphold good policy and prevent bad policy at times. They don’t create policy, but they can rule on some of those situations. And the Texas Supreme Court did a really good job saying we’re going to recognize the Constitution here in Texas.

Rick:

It’s always good to get good news out of the courts since we’re so often getting bad news there over the past, you know, 30-40 years, but we’re seeing a big, big, big change in that arena because conservatives have gone into that arena, because we’ve elected people to appoint good Judges and because we’ve elected good Judges in the States where we can do that. So, a lot of good news there, guys, we’ll have more on our website wallbuilderslive.com.

Well, David, Tim, thanks for so much good news today. I know folks are excited to be able to hear some of that good news during these difficult times. And you know, as we said here on WallBuilders Live when this all first started was, hey, first of all, we’re not going to have a spirit of fear, but of power, love and of sound mind. We know that God is faithful and we know that there are solutions to these problems and then no matter how big the challenges are, we know who has control and then we need to be logical during these times. We need to be reasonable and looking at these things from that biblical, historical and constitutional perspective. While looking at the good news, looking at all these things eyes wide open and looking for ways to hold our elected officials accountable and encourage them to follow the Constitution, the Federal Constitution and also our State Constitutions and our local ordinances and make sure that we’re not overreaching in government which we do see a lot of right now across the country, but that we’re maintaining a rational perspective and we’re protecting liberty at the same time. There is a way to do this in a very balanced way.

We could use your help and spreading the word. If you would take these programs that you’re hearing on WallBuilders Live and share them with your friends and family through social media and let people know this is a source of truth and just a great way to look at the issues of the day, all of the issues of the day, but specifically right now, so, let’s make sure that we’re holding again ourselves accountable and our elected officials accountable, that we’re doing the smart things and the right things, that we’re that we’re governing ourselves and then at the same time making sure that we’re holding our public servants accountable to a rational response to all that is taking place.

One of the things you can do is go to our website today at wallbuilderslive.com. You can make a contribution to our radio program that certainly helps us to continue bringing this truth and these good messages. Go to constitutioncoach.com and sign up to be one of our Constitution coaches and get your friends and family on Zoom with you and have some good community, studying where we came from as a nation and how to restore it. Folks, we’re going to have some difficult times ahead, we got to make sure we are prepared with truth to pick up the pieces and rebuild in a positive way and come out of this thing stronger in the end. We can do that if we stick to those principles. So, learn what those principles are. Take our constitutional live class, share it with your friends and family.
