Welcome to the intersection of faith and the cultures. It”€™s WallBuilders Live and we’re talking about today’s hottest topics on policy and faith and the culture. Of course, here at WallBuilders, we always do that from a particular perspective, that being a biblical, historical and constitutional perspective.

My name is Rick Green, I’m a former Texas Legislature and America’s Constitution coach. I’m here with America’s premier historian, David Barton, he’s the founder and also with us is the president of WallBuilders, Tim Barton and Tim is a national speaker and pastor. I remember exactly how long ago it was.

The ProFamily Legislators Conference

But we’ve been bringing legislators together for more than a decade and these are state reps and senators from across the nation, they come into the Dallas-Fort Worth area and they spend a weekend together exchanging ideas, sharpening each other’s countenance, sharing things that are working in their state or not working in their state, getting good ideas that they can take back to their state. It’s a really great time and it’s a real good rejuvenation time as well. They get to hear from a lot of great speakers and in interacting with other ProFamily biblical worldview legislators. It’s encouraging to them.

I can tell you as a former legislator myself, it was often frustrating and I was in a, you know, great legislature, the state of Texas, but yet you sometimes felt like there were very few that we’re bringing that biblical worldview to the table. And so it’s great to get to interact with others from across the nation and that’s what they do at the ProFamily Legislators Conference. And what we want to do is give you a chance to be a part of that by bringing you some of those speakers.

So we share here on WallBuilders Live, many of the presentations from the Legislators Conference. We’ve already done that, did a couple of those back in December and we’ve already done some of that here in this first part of January. You had the chance to hear from folks like former congressman Randy Forbes and former congressman Bob McEwen and Dana lash and so many others, George Barna. We’ve got a few more that we want to share with you and sometimes, it’s presentations actually that we gave at the Legislators Conference.

Last week to kick off January here in 2020 we had a presentation from David Barton on what to expect in 2020. This is Rabbi Daniel Lapin at the ProFamily Legislators Conference and again it’s going to be over the course of the next three days. But let’s go to the conference right now and pick up with Rabbi Daniel Lapin on the “€˜Culture and national resurgence”€™

Rabbi:

You peering through the gloom and you perceive there’s somebody sort of down on a knee like this, holding out something, looks like a piece of jewelry and then there’s somebody receiving it. And what are you watching? Folks, I know it’s early but I don’t want to feel like a motivational speaker at a hospice, you got to work with me here just a little bit.

Who”€™s Proposing to Who?

What were you watching? A proposal. Right? And then a passing cause headlights shine and light up the scene and what you notice is that it’s a woman on her knees, there’s a guy standing there and she’s holding out a gold Rolex and saying, please accept this and marry me and make me the happiest girl in the world. Now what are you thinking? Right. Because some of the ladies are saying, not a bad idea, it beats waiting for 7 years to lit things of himself. But all the guys say, yeah, right because we are hard-wired to flee from proposals. Either we do it or it isn”€™t going to happen. It’s as simple as that. Why?

Folks, we”€™re talking about more than 50 years of feminism, more than 50 years of a sexual revolution, 50 years of gender egalitarianism. I mean, come on, really everything women can do accepting marriage proposals? Yeah, that’s right. I’ll tell you why. Because scripture is a 3,000 year old volume that has not only influenced the rise and the development of the West, it is the whole reason that anybody from around the world with any ability leaves and moves to a biblically foundation country.

The Harvard professor, Niall Ferguson wrote his book called Civilization: The West and the Rest. Let’s face it. Now I’m saying things that would get me fired if I worked for a university. But that’s absolutely true. The Bible shaped the West and it is not a book of prescription, but a book of description. Now, there’s a really important principle of ancient Jewish wisdom and it’s one that I hope will be very effective in terms of your own usage.

Rabbi:

A 55 mile an hour speed limit is proscriptive. What that means is that on a certain day at a certain time, a certain bureaucrat sat down, sharpened his pencil and said, 55 got a nice ring to it. And then he said, but on the other hand, it’s like too predictable, maybe we should do it 57. And then so I could also, you know, the other way, let’s slow down even more, let’s make it 52. And then in the end, yeah, you know what, let’s make it 55. And if you actually go 57 or 62 or like me, 93, then there is a slight possibility in certain parts of the country you will be caught and fined and in other parts of the country, it appears to be no serious infraction of the cultural code. So it’s not written, it’s not a description of reality. It’s just somebody came up with it.

Descriptive Laws

An example of a descriptive law is the Law of Gravity. When Isaac Newton wrote down the Law of Gravity in the late 17th century, you mustn’t think that until that point, Englishmen were free to float around the countryside like untethered helium balloons. It’s not there was no gravity before that, he just described a reality that is.

Have you ever wondered why it is that some very saintly people you know are poor? I mean, you know, where’s justice in this world, doesn’t God want to reward his faithful ones? And I think we all know somebody like that. You just look at this person, you know, this is such a sweet person, this is such a good person. This is a person who is good to God and to God’s creatures. I mean, he’s just a good person and the person is one step out of destitution. How does that happen?

Well, ancient Jewish wisdom has an answer. It’s not complicated. It’s just as if that same, saintly, sweet, compassionate, loving person went to the top of a 20-story building and he jumped off the roof and he had a very exciting 11 second ride which came to an abrupt stop. And it was not the ride that killed him, it was the sudden stop.

And he came before the heavenly throne and he said, I don’t get it. Where were you when I needed you? I’ve always been a good person. And God said being a good person is only the beginning of what I need from you. The other part I need from you isn’t knowing how the world really works.

The Influence of Judeo-Christian Beliefs

That’s part of why I gave you a Bible that explains these things and I encourage you to study nature. Do you know that 97 percent of all — that’s not a number pulled out of the air, 97 percent of all the scientific, technological and medical discoveries of the thousand years, leading up to World War 1 up to 1917 {perhaps}, from about 900 to 1914, 97% of all the technical scientific discoveries were done either by Bible believing Christians like Isaac Newton himself or within countries that was solidly and heavily Christian. That’s where this thing. Why? Because only Judeo-Christian, biblical beliefs have a critical sentence that almost any child in the streets of Kansas City or of Tel-Aviv can finish the sentence. In the beginning, God created heaven and earth. It doesn’t say that in the Bhagavad Gita, it doesn’t say that in Buddhist writings, it doesn’t say that in the Koran. It’s strictly a Bible principle and that is what led to the scientific discovery. Because God is saying, hey, I created all this. Now, here’s a really good way to get to know me. Why don’t you study my creation?

The God of Creation

Rabbi:

In exactly the same way as if you are really taken up with a particular artist, an artist who’s no longer alive and you think that I just, I’m selling to this artist or musician, whatever, I just want to really, I wish I could invite him for dinner, but what’s the next best thing? Well, the next best thing is becoming intimately familiar with his work, because through his work, you get to know him.

And so God saying, hey, I’m the one who created all of us. They are patterns in the same way that I am the, “€˜The God”€™, I”€™m not one of many, I am the God. You will find that my unity is captured and reflected in the creation, so don’t be surprised if you find laws and principles and theorems that explain but you got to look for it and you got to study it. And so God says, you went up to the 24 blue building and you stepped off the edge, that’s your fault, I told you to study gravity. What do you want? That’s what I said. And the same thing is true for finance as well.

God says, I give you the five books of Moses which have more rules, rituals, restraints and regulations about money then about anything else, sacrifices, dietary law, nothing compares to the number of rules and approaches and principles and truths that are exposed about money and finance. So study it. I know you’re a good person, but I don’t only expect you to be a good person, I expect you to know how the world really works.

How The World Really Works

And it’s hard to think of a more useful thing for the work you are all engaged in than a thorough and clear understanding of how the world really works. And in the next few minutes we have together this morning, I’m going to do everything in my power to impart those principles of ancient Jewish wisdom that you will be able to implement on a day to day basis in your work which I consider to be holy work, because you are all here because you’re all willing to stand up to the popular culture and we know which way the popular culture is going. Don’t we?

Susan and I were walking through the Hilton Hotel at Lincoln Center yesterday afternoon. And all of a sudden, we’re going past the dome, Susan says, did you see that? And we double back to have a look and this is what we saw. This is the Hilton Hotel at Dallas Lincoln Center just off Elbe Jed’s, it’s not five miles from here.

“€œAll Genders”€?

And what was happening was they were hosting a Youth Summit which I believe is government sponsored and hundreds and hundreds of young people were at the hotel for a couple of days to discuss things like how do we remove bigotry and stigma from society and I will keep you informed as soon as they have an answer to that. But in order to accommodate them, the hotel put up paper signs posted to the doors of the men and women’s bathrooms. Didn’t say general use, it didn’t say for men and women, it said all genders. Now that’s very interesting. Why is it part of a government religion, of a state religion in America today that we have to get rid of the little sign under that that says men and the other side says women, we’ve got to get rid of that and replace it with a paper sign, stuck on top all genders?

Genesis 1:27

Rabbi:

How many genders are they? Well, you don’t need media, you all are aware of all the stuff. 50 gender, 60 genders, this isn’t hard for me to understand. Do you remember any of your high school geometry? How many points are there on a line segment? Infinite. Well, if we have a line segment, if we have a spectrum line with male on one side and female on the other, how many points are there in between? Infinite, of course. Once you are willing to violate something that is specified 27 verses into God’s message to mankind, Genesis 1:27 right there, male and female he created them, it’s pretty clear. Yes, it is a binary world after all. This is not prescriptive. This is not God saying, whoa, and if you don’t obey me about this, I’m going to send a lightning bolt to teach you a lesson. No, I’m just helping you, I’m telling you how I created the world.

And if you are puzzled and embarrassed by the fact that women cannot propose marriage to men successfully, you don’t want to go here. It’s just humiliating and awful, but there’s a whole segment of YouTube of failed marriage proposals of women trying to propose. They were so confident, women were so misguided, they believed that these words are meaningless: male and female he created them is just a primitive tribal relic of old-fashioned religious people.

A True Textbook

No, this is a textbook of how the world really works and they were so confident that they could overcome this. They brought friends to film the proposal when they proposed to their boyfriends. And if you cringe when you see a woman burst into tears, you don’t want to go and look at these things. I mean, because this is a book that describes reality just like a physics textbook describes reality.

Egypt, a good situation, right? 100 of years of slavery, the Israelites really seemed pretty doomed, it was all over and then inexplicably and mysteriously, guy called Moses burning bush, God talking let my people go, it’s a whole business. Now what happens? Imagine somebody imprisoned wrongly for something he didn’t do and this poor person sits incarcerated in a terrible penitentiary and he’s there for 12 years. And finally one day, these lawyer walks up to his cell and says, good news, everything is been cleared up and you are innocent, you”€˜re free to go and you know what, we going to  sue the earl out of them”€¦ So guys is good, well, where’s the key, get me out of here. The lawyer voice says, wait, I’ve just ordered a really nice Armani suit to your measurements because I want you to walk out of here, they’re going to be camera, I want you to look great. So it’ll be another two days if you don’t mind, but then you’re going to walk out looking really cool. What does the guy say? Hey, you”€™re an idiot. I’m not waiting two days.
