Rick:

Welcome to the intersection of faith and the culture. This is WallBuilders Live. We are talking about hot topics of the day from a biblical, historical, and constitutional perspective. And today those hot topics are all good news topics. We love Fridays around here at WallBuilders Live, we call it Good News Friday. It’s a chance to catch up on a lot of the good stories that major media definitely ignores.

But folks like you and me and all our other listeners, we want to know what’s working. Are the principles of liberty still good? Do they still produce good results? Does the Bible have answers for our day and in our culture? And the answer to both of those is absolutely yes. So I love getting to hear these good news stories from David and Tim Barton.

David is America’s premier historian and our founder here at WallBuilders, Tim Barton is a national speaker and pastor, president of WallBuilders, and my name is Rick Green, I’m a former Texas legislator and America’s Constitution coach. You can find out more about us at wallbuilderslive.com, which is also where you can get more good news. So we’re going to give you about 30 minutes of it today and you’re going to be hungry for even more after that. So go to wallbuilderslive.com and listen to some of those other Friday programs.

We’re going to dive into some of that good news right now. David Barton is going to start us. David, what’s the first piece of good news?

David:

This is a piece of national polling that is looking forward to the 2022 elections, kind of predicting what they think the outcome might be. Now, while this is good news, I will put out the caveat that polling changes so fast based on what is occurring at that point in time. So right now, Biden is very unpopular. His policies are very unpopular. What he’s doing is very unpopular. And right now, it looks like that not only will the Republicans take the US House back, which I think they’ll take it back by a large majority. It also now looks like the Republicans will take the US Senate back and that was in doubt.

Because the US Senate, and looking at the number, 1/3 of the Senate is up every two years for election according in the Constitution, and when you look at the 33 or 34 that’s up this year, the Republicans had to defend a lot more seats and the Democrats did and the Republicans defending seats were really a tossup battleground kind of state. So it really looked like it was going to be a very hard row for the Republicans to get any kind of majority, they should be able to maintain. Hopefully, they pick up one seat. But now, the polling suggests that the Democrats are going to lose control of the Senate in 2022.

Now, by the way, this is not the final word. You know, if it turns out that 15 Republican senators had a pedophile sex ring going, then this all goes out the door. So any kind of news story can change this. But right now, based on what’s happening in the trend over the last, what 10 or 11 months that we’ve had Biden, people don’t like the way it’s heading to, so they want to give it back to the Republicans.

So when you look at what’s out there, states like Nevada are in play, you have a Democrat Senator there. States like New Hampshire, Democrat Senator there is in play. States like Georgia with Raphael Warnock that’s in play with Herschel Walker. So it looks at this point like Republicans could gain several seats. The Democrats are now concerned and they have targeted nine states that they think they might lose or that they need to take and hold on to.

Now, for example, Ron Johnson, Republican up Wisconsin has not announced what he’s running for reelection, so they really want that one And Wisconsin can be a hard state for Republicans anyway, so they’re looking there. But they’re specifically focusing, the Democrats are focusing on Senate seats in Arizona, and Florida, and Georgia and Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. So those are the new battleground states and that’s a much increased battleground zone for Democrats than what it was just four to five to six months ago.

So if Americans keep waking up and not liking progressive and socialist policies coming down through Biden administration, and through Congress, looks like that we can at least come to a stalemate in the next election, and then Biden’s just going to be stuck pretty much with having to do executive orders to make things happen, but at least we will have stopped congressional action to move us toward progressive socialist policies.

Rick:

You know, it seems like people are beginning to realize they’re not alone in their frustration. For a while they’re just felt like this overwhelming, man, the whole country has gone nuts, everybody’s for this stuff, and now all of a sudden, whether it’s the let’s go Brandon chance around the country or the massive amount of people coming out, and waving banners and doing…

I mean, it just seems like there’s a wakeup call. And what that does for people at home that have been thinking they were alone as they go, oh, wait a minute, maybe we can save the country, maybe it’s not too far gone. So I think this polling data is very encouraging and should encourage everyone, stay involved. No one listening out there right now, no one should stay home on election day because you think oh, the voting system is rigged, oh, the other side’s going to outnumber us. You do your duty. You stay involved in the process. We need to win by so much. They can’t cheat.

In fact, it was a book by Hugh Hewitt like that 15 years ago, he said when by so much they can’t steal it. I mean, that’s kind of the attitude we’ve got to have on this thing. We’ve got to charge forward and say we’re going to take our nation back. Be happy warriors, as Ronald Reagan said, taking back a nation and a world of freedom. So I’m encouraged by what you said, David. That polling data is very encouraging. Like you said, it can all change. But this is really a time for people to get involved not to shrink back and think oh, it’s too late. It’s too far gone. The opposite is true. If we do shrink back, it’ll be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Now’s our chance to get involved.

Alright, Tim, more good news, what you got, brother?

Tim:

Alright, guys, this one is another national poll. This one was done by the Barna Group. And Barna Group does a lot of polling centering on religious content, on Christian content. Barna Group used to be from George Barna, and then George Barna sold that several years ago. George Barna now is, I think, at Arizona Christian University and leads up a team for them that does a lot of research. And we still do a lot of work with Georgia as well. But this was his old group.

So Barna Group does polling. And this title is a “State of the Bible 2021: Five Key Findings”. And what’s interesting, guys, about this is some of the key findings are number one, that Bible users increased in 2021, which maybe it’s not super surprising that in the midst of the crisis people remembered there was a God and turned back to the Bible. You know, it’s very sad that at times in our life we often forget about God until there was a crisis.

But fortunately, as this polling indicates that there were a lot of people who have turned back and are using the Bible. Again, going back to the Bible, there are several bullet points in this article, it’s actually fairly large article, but several bullet points. One of them is that Americans largely believe the nation would fare poorly without the Bible. So 54% of adults that were surveyed said that if we don’t have the Bible, if we didn’t use principles from the Bible, that America would be worse off, which is 100% true. That number actually should be significantly higher.

But when we live in a world of subjective truth and subjective morality, where people think, well, no everybody can do for themselves whatever they think, that doesn’t work when those thoughts meet reality. The Bible is the objective moral standard that gives us guidance for how to live life on every practical level. And it is the best moral standard ever given to men by God.

Another bullet point in this article says over half of US adults say the Bible is without error. And actually, in this polling, one of the things, guys, that we’ve heard many times, actually, George Barna even told us, and sometimes you can get the answers you want based on the way you ask the question. And so not to be overly skeptical of Barna Group and the way they asked this question, but the way they asked this question is a little iffy to me as they identify over half of US adults say the Bible’s without error.

Essentially, where they draw their conclusion is that the majority of Americans regard Scripture as the word of God, and therefore, if it is the word of God, it’s without error. So they kind of draw that conclusion which is not exactly what the poll said. Nonetheless, the fact that the majority of Americans do believe the Bible is the Word of God is very good news along the way.

Another bullet point half of Americans affirm the Bible contains a key to living a meaningful life. Another point is one in six us adults read the Bible most days during the week.

David:

That’s up because it was only 9%. So if it’s one to six, that’s up to 16. That’s great.

Tim:

But it’s not read the Bible daily. And I think the number you’re referring to, it used to be how many people read the Bible daily?

David:

Yeah, that was daily number.

Tim:

And so this is read the Bible most days during the week. So they say you read the Bible at least three to five days a week, and that numbers one to six Americans. Now, that’s still great if we’re having an increase of people that are going to the Bible frequently throughout the week looking for guidance…

David:

Isn’t that where it’s saying 16% is great? That’s up from what it has been. But 16% is pathetic for what we used to be.

Tim:

Well, for where we should be, that’s true, where right now when you have still the vast majority of Americans self-identify as Christians, and as Christians, the basis of Christianity is the teachings of the Word of God, right, it’s obviously centered around Jesus, but God has given us His revealed word in the Bible. And so if we’re Christians, we should be following the Bible and actually reading and studying the Bible. So it should be a very high number that are turning to the Bible often for guidance.

Nonetheless, guys, overall, it is some positive things again, looking, we’ve talked about from COVID there have been many positive outcomes that have come out of this. One of the positive outcomes is there are people again returning to Scripture, God is kind of Awakening people from slumber, so to speak, to reference Scripture. God is waking people up. And so there is some encouraging things out there, even with regard to the Bible because as we’re battling issues in culture, the Word of God gives us every answer we need for how to handle issues and culture, but we have to know what the Bible says to know how to handle those issues and culture. Good news is more people are returning to the Bible, and hopefully, God will help them find those answers and apply those in culture.

Rick:

Man, you nailed it, Tim. I mean, if we’re going to talk about want to make our neighborhoods better and our states better, make our nation better, the Bible is the answer. The Founders knew that and of course, they knew if you remove the Bible from society, constitutional republic’s not going to work. I mean, Benjamin Rush had fantastic quotes on that. So this is again very, very encouraging. So two very encouraging polls, one, that the political side of things, hopefully pushing back against the very socialist policies of the current administration and then two, the attitude of the people coming back to God’s Word, which is absolutely necessary if we’re going to turn our country around.

David:

And Rick, let me throw something else in here because I want to kind of expand on something because you said the Bible is the answer, I’m going to go a step further. I don’t think the Bible is the answer. I think a knowledge of the practical aspects of the Bible when they are applied is the answer. Because the Bible, too many people today still think the Bible is merely a spiritual book. And it’s not merely a spiritual book, it is definitely a spiritual book, how to have a relationship with God through Christ. But it’s also a practical book, what it does with education and criminal justice, and what it does with economics and immigration, everything else. It is that sort of principles, when we apply them to public policy that will turn our communities back around as they had been in previous generations.

So while I agree with you totally that the Bible is the answer, I’m going to go a step further and say that it’s a practical knowledge of the Bible that when applied to communities is the answer. And that’s what we eventually all need to get to, where we know that Bible, know the practical aspects, and can apply that into public policy.

Rick:

Amen. And, you know, I think that’s why churches where that’s happening are exploding right now. People are hungry for that pastors that are speaking to that on Sunday morning and teaching that and having Bible studies, and groups at church to dive into those kinds of things, man, I mean, people are flocking to churches like that. So it’s super, super encouraging to see that revival happening in the country.

Alright, so lots of good news already. We’re going to take a break; we’ll come back and get some more good news. Stay with us, folks, you’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

THE AMERICAN STORY

Hey, guys, we want to let you know about a new resource we have here at WallBuilders called The American Story. For years, people have been asking us to do a history book, and we finally done it. We start with Christopher Columbus and go roughly through Abraham Lincoln. And one of the things that so often we hear today are about the imperfections of America, or how so many people in America that used to be celebrated or honored really aren’t good or honorable people.

One of the things we acknowledge quickly in the book is that the entire world is full of people who are sinful and need a savior, because the Bible even tells us that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. And yet what we see through history, and certainly is evident in America is how a perfect God uses imperfect people and does great things through them. The story of America is not the story of perfect people. But you see time and time again how God got involved in the process and use these imperfect people to do great things that impacted the entire world from America. To find out more, go to wallbuilders.com and check out The American Story.

Rick:

We’re back here on WallBuilders Live. Thanks for staying with us. It’s a Good News Friday, which means we are piling as much good news in as we can. The stacks are too big. David and Tim will not get to all their stories, which means you got to tune in next week as well. But we’re going to get as many as we can. David, next piece of good news for today.

David:

Well, the good news that I want to respond to first is what you just said about a big stack. Before we started the programming today, I literally pulled five inches of good news stories all stacked on top of each other out of the stack because we’re never going to get to them. I mean, we got so much stuff that’s happening right now, we’ve still got probably 3-4 inches stack on the table. So we were at 8-9 inches, whatever it is. So the good news is that’s how much good news we’re not going to be able to get to, which is good news. Sorry, you won’t be able to find out what that is. But going forth with the next good news story…

Rick:

Just know that it’s there, right?

David:

Just know that it’s there, know that good things are happening, despite what we see and despite what we’re hearing nationally, there is good stuff happening.

Tim:

Well, and also too is worth pointing out that a lot of these good things are happening on the local level and that’s why these aren’t always national stories. Now sometimes, right, it goes viral, something happens where individual citizens stepping in to help do good as a good Samaritan or police officer does something but many times it’s the state legislator, it’s a congressmen and it’s not always things that goes national. And so, there are absolutely good outlets out there that will give you information.

Certainly, if you are listening to WallBuilders Live, you know that between Rick Green and the Barton’s, we do a lot of try to inform people. We have a lot of stuff on social media so you can track our social media pages because we’re posting stuff every single week of stuff that’s going on. Rick does a Front Porch Live, where you actually can get on there and not only listen to Rick live once a week and you can ask questions and engage with Rick of things going on.

Periodically, dad, you and I are on different news outlets, and Rick, you are throughout the weeks. There’s a lot of things out there where you can hear some of these positive stories. But with that being said, the reason that again, a lot of the nation does not know these stories as many times they happen at a local level. But the reason I bring this up is because the local level is actually the best place to turn things around, change things, fix things, and have revivals happen.

So the good news is most of the good news is coming from the area where it’s going to have a good impact on the future of this nation as just individual citizens rolling up their sleeves getting involved making a difference. That’s the way to get America turned back around. And that’s what we had inches and inches and inches of those kinds of stories. And we’ve said many times before, this is one of the reasons we think we are probably in a great awakening because God is stirring up so many people and so many people are getting involved in doing things to make a difference in their local areas. And that’s we’re seeing so much… That’s part of the good news anyway, that’s kind of a side diatribe. But the local level…

Rick:

But that is a good news story in and of itself, just that there is so much good news because people do tend to think it’s just all fallen apart. You know, they get overwhelmed with the bad news. So just the fact that there’s so many stories out there should encourage people.

David:

So the story I’ve got now, last time we covered the content of this story, YouTube objected and they took us down for a week. And so strike one, whatever strike that is, who knows. But we’re going to cover it again, and so if they don’t like it, that’s tough because all we did last time was report what a court had said about vaccine mandates. And we reported that. We reported the fact that all 50 states have exemptions in place for vaccine mandates.

Tim:

By the way, to that point, Steven Crowder got a strike on YouTube and taken down for a week where he couldn’t load any content because he actually read something from the CDC. So just reading actual CDC guidance, and talking about what that CDC guidance actually was, just the practical application of that guidance got him banned.

So guys, this is where we’ve talked about it many times before, one of the reasons it’s so important that we are connected with some of these different movements or organizations, conservative groups, nonprofits, on a level outside of big tech is very important. So hopefully, right, if you’re listening to us on radio, or you get the podcast, don’t just be relying on YouTube, although certainly utilize whatever tools are and find us wherever you can find us. But you see big tech censoring on a lot of levels.

And what they say is, they’re taking down any guidance that is contrary on the known position on COVID. But it used to be they say anything contrary to the CDC. Well, Steven Crowder literally read the CDC guidance. But the CDC guidance acknowledged that people that are vaccinated can both contract and spread COVID. And so he said, well, if you can contract and spread it, like the reason we were initially told to get the vaccine and so that you don’t get COVID, or that it was the people who don’t have the vaccine that are spreading COVID, but if people that get the vaccine can both contract and spread COVID, then the vaccine doesn’t make sense in the way they are arguing.

Now, that’s literally what he said, and YouTube pulled him and banned him for that for a week because he acknowledged CDC guidance. So now big tech is not even really following the CDC guidance anymore, even though they say they are. They are doing their own agenda, promoting their own ideology, which certainly involves power and money and fear mongering. And so again, I encourage you don’t just rely on the big tech platforms, make sure that you’re connected to wallbuilders.com, wallbuilderslive.com, Patriot Academy, make sure you’re connected outside of some those big tech circles so that if they try to censor some of the content, you still have access to this great information.

David:

So this story comes out of Michigan. Actually, it starts in Michigan, but it really comes out of the US Circuit Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, which is over Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee, and it deals with Western Michigan University. That university like so many others in America are requiring that all students be vaccinated.

Now, as we covered in previous program with Mat Staver, who won one of these cases, I think he had won a case in Alabama, where the dental school there was requiring all students to be vaccinated and he won there in that court. And we’re winning these cases all over the United States right now because, as Mat pointed out, all 50 states haven’t placed exemptions for vaccines. I think he said 46 states have exemptions for vaccines for conscious objections, and 26 states have exemptions in place for religious objections.

So in Western Michigan University, they said all students had to be vaccinated and a number the athletes there on the team said, no, we’re not doing that. And 16 of them refused to do it on the basis of religious exemptions. And so the university said, we are ignoring and denying your religious exemption, there is no exemption to this, you will get it done. Those student athletes took it to court and they won in court, and now for the state of Ohio and Michigan and Kentucky and Tennessee, that’s the standard now. The universities cannot force you to get a vaccination. If you have a conscience objection, or religious objection or even other objections, you have to honor those objections.

Now, the reason I think this is important is we’re seeing one of these stories virtually once or twice a week. We’re seeing courts all over the United States, federal courts saying you can’t do this. We went back three four weeks ago with Mat Staver. But we’ve also seen it now in other states as well the federal courts are jumping on this. And I’m going to speculate on something here. But you remember how forcefully Biden came out and said, everybody’s going to get a vaccination, and there’s no exceptions, and if you’re 100 people employed in business, that business has to do it?

Tim:

No. I remember five months ago when he said he would never do a mandate. That’s what I remember.

Rick:

That’s right. He said it was unconstitutional. I don’t have the constitutional authority to do that.

Tim:

Yeah. Oh, but you know what, I did see in a recent town hall he said that you know what, I tried to not do a mandate but the people, they wouldn’t do the right thing. So in the goodness of my heart and my love for people I decided I have to do a mandate even though I already said it was unconstitutional, and I would never do that. So I do remember that statement. But I guess it’s changed over time.

David:

Yeah, it has changed over time. And here’s just purely my speculation. He came out so forcefully and he shook his finger at all the governors said you governors I’m going to force you to do this, and it be like DeSantis, NAB, and all these other governors who haven’t done it, Kristi Noem, and he just was really coercive. And that’s when you saw a so much of the major corporations in America start to line up exactly behind him. So everybody jumped on and hospitals were saying you got to do this. And interestingly, hospitals lost a case last week where they said, look, if you’re patient-facing, if you’re somebody who works at the hospital that’s going to be talking to patients, you can’t have any exemptions at all. There’s no exemptions we’re going to honor or recognize, court suggests you are.

So this thing where he jumped out, you watch so many companies voluntarily get on board and start demanding this from their employees we’re going to fire you, you’re going to be released, you’re going to get vaccine, there’s no exceptions, and so everybody is doing this. Well, in the meantime, Biden said, I’m going to draw up this rule, and I’m going to release it and it’s going to come out in a few months. So the rule is now made its way through OSHA, which is where they drafted it, and it’s been sent over to the Department of Labor, which is where it’s going to be released and issued.

My speculation is they probably won’t release it or issue it. Because I think they know like everybody in the legal community knows that as soon as they do, it is going to be enjoined. There are so many state attorney generals that already have the lawsuit ready. And the hour that that policy is announced which is going to override all federalism in the Constitution, States no longer have any rights, we will tell states what to do in health care, which is not a federal issue in the Constitution, and then you’re also saying there’s going to be no exemptions, even though all 50 states provide exemptions.

You have a bunch of the state attorney generals who are waiting to drop a lawsuit. And probably within two minutes of the time, it’s announced they will have that lawsuit filed or two minutes exaggeration, but very shortly after that. So they will have that lawsuit filed. And I think the Biden administration knows that this cannot stand up in any federal court. We haven’t seen federal courts uphold this yet. And so I think they know what’s coming down. I think their intent literally was to get people to voluntarily coercively force their employees to do this, not planning it really come through…

Tim:

And maybe what it meant to that, and dad, I think you would agree there are some federal judges who would uphold this. But this would be eventually struck down, right, whether it be by a court of appeal or the US Supreme Court because there’s no constitutional basis for this. There are some judges out there who are woke enough, who think because the good idea, we should make this happen. Obviously, there were some bad judges who have been appointed some of these federal judges.

So there are some federal judges who probably would be in favor of this. And that’s actually one of the reasons I could see some people inside the department, even at OSHA saying no, let’s do this because if it gets appealed, we can make sure gets appealed to one of our judges. I could see them trying to work this, except I think they think this through, they’re going to realize eventually, if this gets appealed the US Supreme Court, and they’re not going to have the favorability at the Supreme Court for this to be upheld.

David:

Unless they can get that court packing thing done by them which they won’t.

Tim:

Right. Even though their own group that they had analyzing, I don’t remember what they call it, right, but it is as a commission…

Rick:

Oh, yeah, their own commission came out and said, no, this would be bad for the court.

Tim:

Correct. The commission was like, yeah, guys packing, that’s a bad idea, we shouldn’t do that. So the only way they could get this through was to have enough woke justices on the US Supreme Court to do that and even their commission saying no. So, dad, I think your point is very valid, that likely they will not come out with a ruling. And they might not have to because right now it’s almost like executive order by press release, right. There’s been no mandate. There’s only been a press release.

Rick:

Yeah, nothing but a speech: tin pot dictator comes out on the balcony and says, this is the law for the world.

David:

But this is why you see things like even the pilots at Southwest say, no, we’re not doing this. Now Southwest put pressure on them. But we’ve even seen press releases now in the last few days, where Southwest is saying this really is a crazy policy. This is not very good. But then you see it spreading to American Airlines. You see a spreading to other. You’re seeing these employees stand up against this, which is really, really, really healthy.

I think the big companies were scared of the federal government. And I think they’re finding it’s not as strong as they thought it was going to be. So I even look at that and think it’s super healthy the way that we’re pushing back on this and the way that judges right now eventually are with us. And we’re really not seeing yet at the lower level. Judges go with the administration, so far they’ve gone against the administration.

But I just think this is really part of something healthy in America. And if I can point out, even a corollary to this we had, like everybody else, a lot of news coverage, last November about the election that wouldn’t end. You know, into January, we were still doing news coverage on this and Trump did not get there. But yet look at what’s happened in all the states since then.

All the states that are now looking at policies on elections and changing policies and tightening up stuff and all the prosecutions that have gone on, we’re talking to a guy that will come out next few days. There’s about 2,000 more indictments about ready to come down in two states on election fraud. I mean, there’s just a lot going on that would never have happened.

And then the same way, I think that the pushback that we’re seeing against the intrusion of the government, the overreach of government would never have happened if there hadn’t been the overreach of government to do that. So I just see a lot of good stuff happening across the nation, I think, it’s very healthy right now.

Rick:

You know, we’ve said it on the program many times, civic ignorance, biblical ignorance, that’s how we get into these messes. But civic literacy, biblical literacy, that’s what gets us out. We know that truth, and then we apply it. And that’s happening here. I mean, look, the Southwest Airlines CEO initially came out and said, I have to do this because the President said, so you know, the dictator came out on the balcony and gave the speech so I have to obey this. But then these pilots and all these others push back, and so now they’ve got this tug of war going within Southwest Airlines. And it looks like it might end up going the right way, we’ll see.

But, I mean, it takes civic literacy. We need to know what the President can or can’t do, know what Congress can do, know what the proper jurisdiction of government is. Of course, these mandates are completely unconstitutional. But we’ve got to know the constitution to be able to stand up for it and elect good people that will then stand up for it in Congress and in our local state legislatures, and, frankly, at our local city councils, your sheriff, all those positions.

David:

And by the way, Rick, we’re not saying that masks are inherently bad or vaccinations are inherently bad. We’re saying that mandates requiring every single person to conform to the government’s dictates, that’s the bad part of this.

Rick:

Yeah, it always comes back to who gets to decide, right, who gets to make that decision, and who has the power and the authority to either suggestion. You know, like, I think it’s great to have government agencies and organizations that do research and then give advice, but then to actually mandate it and be dictatorial or authoritarian in it, that’s where it gets very dangerous and headed down the wrong way. And we’ve been doing that for about two years. Now, it’s time to snap out of it. Let’s learn our rights and let’s teach our friends and family those things. That’s why you share WallBuilders Live with them. Thanks for listening to this Good News Friday. You’ve been listening to WallBuilders Live.
