You can spread the word and help equip others to be good citizens and help us restore America’s Constitution.

So, it’s Good News Friday here, David and Tim. I know you’ve got a stack of stuff to get through. So, let’s get started. David, you”€™re up first.

Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State

David:

I want to start with the announcement of the confirmation of Mike Pompeo as the new secretary of state. Mike Pompeo had been running the intelligence community, CIA type stuff, but Mike has a record as a congressman. He was a congressman, very pro-life guy, very traditional marriage guy. He had a lot of trouble in the hearing because Senator–

Rick:

Yeah, they really fought– I remember seeing some headlines that didn’t really dig into it. But it looked like they were really trying to stop him.

David:

Oh man, Cory Booker, a senator from Colorado went after him because of his marriage views. For Cory Booker it is enough that he thinks marriage is between a man and a woman.

Tim:

You mean Mike Pompeo thinks that.

David:

Mike Pompeo. Yes. Mike Pompeo thinks that.

Tim:

So, Cory Booker has put out that Mike Pompeo agrees with what the majority of the state of Colorado would seemingly agree with. And Corey thinks that’s a bad position for Mike Pompeo to take that marriage is between a man and a woman.

David:

He thinks that”€™s a litmus test.

Rick:

So, he”€™s being truly tolerant here on this one, Booker is, right?

David:

Yeah, exactly.

Rick:

This is the tolerance of the left again that because Pompeo actually believes in the same thing that most people in the planet believe in. And did believe in for oh, I don’t know, all of history until about 15 years ago.

Enough to Put Cory Booker Over the Top

David:

That’s right. And he makes this litmus test and let’s not worry about what the State Department is doing foreign relations kind of stuff, and the relationship we have with all foreign nations – that’s not what matters. What matters is where you are on marriage between a man and woman.

And it’s even worse than that. Mike Pompeo actually thinks homosexuality is not right. And that was enough to put Cory Booker over the top. So, Mike Pompeo holds traditional values, values that, as you said, up to 15 years ago were the values pretty much of the world from 5500 hundred years. Certainly the values of the Bible and America. But now Cory Booker’s on the other side.

Tim:

I would even point out those were the values of President Obama back in 2008.

David:

Yeah.

Tim:

And 2009, and 2010.

Rick:

And Hillary Clinton.

Tim:

Right.

Rick:

And Bill Clinton.

Tim:

It’s funny that these have become extreme positions. And this is where you have these politicians on the left who are saying, “€œWell, my position has evolved.”€ Which, ultimately, means that I don’t believe in absolutes and I don’t believe in a strict standard of rights, and wrongs, and morality. It’s subjective, and it’s relativistic, and it changes with whatever the majority of the people want because I’m a politician and that’s what we do.

Rights and Wrongs Shouldn”€™t Evolve Over Time

Tim:

It’s utterly ridiculous that a standard of rights and wrongs should change or evolve over time as many have stated in this position. But this is not a far fetched outrageous position. It’s just being demonized by those who want to be very secular, who want to be very progressive, and who are anti Christian values.

David:

It’s interesting, too, that his pro-life views came under attack as well. And so you have– actually, you have two pro-life Democrats in the Senate. I think there are three pro-life Democrats – I think Casey from Pennsylvania, Manchin from West Virginia, and then Donnelly from Indiana.

Tim:

I didn’t think unicorns existed.

Rick:

I was sitting there thinking the same thing, Tim, I was going, “€œI thought all pro-life Democrats were gone ten years ago.”€

David:

Well, there’s three that in recent votes, things over like fetal pain and etc. voted pro-life. So, those three–

Rick:

that’s good news in and of itself.

David:

That is good news in and of itself. And two have those three, not Casey, but Manson and Donnelly actually supported Pompeo. On the other side you have Shaheen and she actually changed her vote because Planned Parenthood came after her and said, “€œHey, you can’t vote for him. He’s not pro-life.”€

Promoting Homosexuality and Abortion Worldwide

David:

So, and by the way I will point out that your views on marriage and on life have become a big deal in the State Department. Going back to Hillary Clinton when she was secretary of state for Barack Obama, they created the Office of Global Women’s Initiatives. And that sounds like a cool office, but its objective was to promote homosexuality and abortion worldwide. So, they started tying State Department funds to holding a pro homosexual position. And there’s a whole lot of countries that didn’t want to do that.

We talked about Nigeria and other countries that had traditional marriage, they had abortion prohibitions in their constitutions, that’s what the people wanted. And they were saying, “€œNo, you have to change your constitution if you want America to help you with funds or anything.”€ So, it was really under Hillary that this became an issue.

Now under Pompeo, in his hearings, it became an issue again because the Democrats made it an issue that you have to be pro homosexual, have to be pro abortion. So, Pompeo is not which kind of would indicate how we hope maybe public policy will go. That America won’t go globally promoting abortion and homosexual marriage. That they”€™ll let nations determine those individual values. But the cool thing is Pompeo is also really good in the intelligence community from what he’s been serving. And understanding the delicate nature of the world and world relations, that’s something the State Department hadn’t been really good at in previous years. They’ve been kind of oblivious to a lot of things going on that are obvious to people in the intelligence community.

So, this is really good news to have a good, solid, conservative value person that’s heading a major, major, major, department in government. A department where we have so much money placed invested every budget.

Rick:

Quick break guys. We’ll be right back. It’ll be Tim Barton up next with some good news. You’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

American History

This is Tim Barton from WallBuilders with another moment in American history. In 1963 the United States Supreme Court decided that voluntary Bible reading could no longer be part of the school day.

Founding Father Benjamin Rush, known as the father of public schools under the Constitution, pointedly warned that the Bible should be read in schools in preference to all other books.

He specifically warned that if America ever ceased promoting Biblical principles in schools then we would waste so much time and money and punishing crimes. It takes so little pains to prevent them.

He was right, we now have seven million Americans in prison on probation or on parole. The United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Sadly, this was unnecessary, but is the result of no longer teaching the morals of the Bible in schools.

For more information about the Founding Fathers views on the positive impact of the Bible in schools go to WallBuilders.com.

Rick:

We’re back on WallBuilders Live. Thanks for staying with us on this Good News Friday. Tim Barton has some good news for us -Tim?

Tim:

Alright, guys, this is coming from a couple different states. I have a couple of articles in front of me. And we have talked in recent weeks on Good News Friday programs about different states, how their House, or I guess their legislature, and their House and their Senate side were working to get legislation done to defund Planned Parenthood.

So, one of the things that’s happened is two of those states, the legislation to defund Planned Parenthood actually made it to the governor.

Making it to the Governor

Tim:

So, I have an article by the governor in Tennessee and it says “€œSigns Legislation Defunding Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz”€. Same thing with Nebraska, “€œNebraska Governor Signs Budget That Defunds Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz“€. So, there’s a couple of states which it”€™s now that list is growing. And you have a couple of dozen states that have come out and said, “€œLook, we’re not giving that money to Planned Parenthood anymore.”€

And ultimately, you’re looking at millions of dollars that have now been taken out of their budget from these states that are simply saying, “€œWe’re not going to fund an organization that does abortion in the guise or the name of women’s health.”€ Or, ironically, even family planning, right? Planned Parenthood. No, we’re not family planning here. You are closing down the family business is what you’re trying to do.

Anyway, two governors have now signed these into law in their states. So, really good news seeing that as we’ve talked about all the pro-life laws and legislation that has been done, that’s been coming down, for years. We talked about the reason it’s so important to get involved and elect people that have our values is so that we can get good legislation. Well, this is one example of good legislation when it comes to a very much a value driven issue with the issue of life.

And so Tennessee and Nebraska have now both signed into law that in their states they are not going to fund Planned Parenthood. So, really good news coming from Tennessee and Nebraska.

The Hyde Amendment at the State Level

David:

That essentially is like doing what was called the Hyde amendment, but it’s at the state level. For a number of years– and some folks might not know, but the Hyde Amendment was Henry Hyde was a pro-life congressman out of Illinois, he was head of Judiciary Committee. And years, and years, and years, ago he came up with this measure that says no federal funds will be used to fund abortion. We”€™ll use federal monies for other things, but not to take human life. And so that has been in place, my gosh, Rick, is it 25 years probably we’ve had that at the federal level?

Rick:

Man, I think so. Yeah. It was mid 80s, right?

David:

It was mid 80s. I think it goes back into Reagan’s time. So, maybe it’s more than 25 years. But Henry Hyde did that and it’s known as the Hyde amendment. But people really don’t talk about it now because they’re finding so many ways to get around it. Funding Planned Parenthood is one of those ways and Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in the nation. So, when you’re funding Planned Parenthood you are funding abortions. And even though they say, “€œWell, we’re using it for family planning services.”€ No, that money is fungible. You’re now taking money that you might say that we’re just taking the federal dollars we’re doing sex education and not abortions. Well, that”€™s still funding the business and it allows you to put more money over in the abortion side because that money does move around.

And by the way, the sex ed curriculum from Planned Parenthood, which is now the largest and most popular sex ed curriculum in America, does promote abortion. It is a thing of trying to train customers from the young generation to head to Planned Parenthood and head to abortions. And that in some ways has become birth control in the way that they view it.

So, this is kind of a revival of what had been common at the federal level, but has really been broken down in recent years through sideways funding. And now the states are stepping up and saying, “€œNo. Essentially we’re doing a Hyde Amendment in our state. We’re not going to use state funds to promote abortion or to perform abortions. And that includes through Planned Parenthood.”€ And that’s good to see that national policy trickle down to the state level. It’s bad that we need the policy, but it’s good that states are moving in that direction.

Rick:

I wonder if– you talk about the funds being fungible– I wonder if they mix that in with any of the funds from selling baby parts. Oh, that’s a different topic. Okay, quick break, we’ll come back and get some more good news. Stay with us. You’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

Rick:

We’re back on WallBuilders Live. Some more good news for you. David, you kind of wrapped up that last segment, so I’m not sure who to throw to here David or Tim.

David:

Well, I’m going to jump in on this one, Rick.

Rick:

Alright, go ahead, David.

Are Pro-Life Democrats Welcome in the Democrat Party

David:

I’m going to go to what we’ve been talking about somewhat and that is the issue of abortion at the federal level. And what we have seen over recent months is the question is are pro-life Democrats welcome in the Democrat Party? So, you’ve had the national Democrat party leadership say, “€œNo, if you’re pro-life you’re not welcome here etc..”€ And so there have been Democrat senators who have said the same thing, etc..

Well, we now have a notable exception to this. Nancy Pelosi who is the Democrat minority leader in the U.S. House. She was recently speaking at Georgetown University and she has now come out saying, “€œNo, no, no, there’s room for pro-life Democrats in the Democrat Party. Now I wonder why she would say that? Well, pretty easy. She wants to be the majority leader. She wants to be the speaker of the house again. And they need to turn 24 seats in the election if Democrats are going to take the House back from Republicans and she wants every Democrat vote she can get. I think they’ve got 191-195 Democrats in the house right now.

I forget what it is, but we pointed out on a previous program a few weeks ago that only six of those Democrats voted for the Infant Born Alive Protection Act. That if a child– you’re trying to abort a child and it lives through the abortion, and it”€™s born, and it’s laying there on the table in front of you, the baby is right there, it has been born, can you go ahead and kill it while it”€™s laying there on the table.

Only six Democrats said, “€œNo, you can’t kill a baby once it’s outside the womb.”€ But she wants those six votes and there’s no question those six would vote for her for speaker of the house. They’re Democrats, they’ll vote for the Democrat nominee for speaker. So, she needs as many votes as she can get. And if there are some pro-life Democrats that get elected she definitely wants them.

So, she has gone on record saying there is room for pro-life Democrats in the Democrat Party. And there’s no question that, particularly at the state level, you have a bunch of Democrats that are still pro-life in their thinking. They have very very little representation at the national level. On the national party level they keep saying there’s not room for these pro-life Democrats.

Infant Born Alive Protection Act

David:

But Pelosi has said that. And I appreciate her saying that even though I believe it is motivated totally by her desire to be the speaker of the house again. Regardless of the reason she’s at least made that an opening.

So, I hope pro-life Democrats really step up and make that an issue in their own party and they start working in the primaries. And we have still about two dozen primaries that have not happened yet. I hope the pro-life Democrats will go vote pro-life candidates in the primaries, and get them elected, and get them sent to Congress, so that we don’t have the same kind of embarrassing thing we’re seeing in votes now. Where that 100 percent of Republicans vote for the Infant Born Alive Protection Act saying that if a baby is alive on the table you don’t kill it and only six Democrats vote for that. I’d love to see more Democrats voting in the sense of protecting innocent unborn life.

Rick:

Just to be clear even if they get a handful of those this cycle if Pelosi or any other Democrat was to become speaker of the house you’d still have the vast, vast, 180-190, 200, to maybe five, or six, or ten, in the Democrat Party being very pro abortion. Therefore, your legislation actually gets to the floor and gets debated would always be pro abortion – not pro-life. So, just to keep that in mind. I agree with you totally that we we want to see more Democrats being pro-life.

David:

Yeah.

Rick:

But, folks, don’t think that that means you want to be rooting for the Democrats to take over.

What”€™s the Chance?

David:

I will safely go on record and I will tell you that if she becomes the next speaker of the house the chances of her allowing any pro-life vote at all in the house is about the same chance that we’re going to have a 14 foot blizzard in Texas on July 4th.

Rick:

Right.

David:

It ain’t going to happen. It’s not going to happen. So, she says, “€œYeah, we want pro-life Democrats and there’s room for those.”€ There may be room for them when they’re helping elect her, but once she is the leader of the House there will not be a vote. I don’t care if we elect 50 pro-life Democrats – there will not be a leader of that vote. We have seen her do that too many times.

Rick:

Yeah.

David:

And this is something on which she does not personally compromise, she does not allow her people to. Even Dan Lipinski who is one of those six Democrats who did vote for it, the Democrat Party put money in against him. He’s a– what is he, an 18-20 year Democrat in Congress. The Democrat Party put money in to keep him from being elected, they ran a primary against him, and the party put money in against him to keep a pro-life Democrat from being elected.

So, she can say that, but I’ll tell you that– And while I want a whole lot more pro-life Democrats, if she’s the speaker you will not see a pro-life vote. Now, if Republicans retain the House, it doesn’t matter who their speaker is you’re going to see a bunch of pro-life votes. That’s just the way it’s been for the last 30 years. Every time Republicans are in place.

I remember at one point in time under George Bush they had 190 different pro-life votes over the span of George Bush being there. So, if Republicans retain the House, which I think it’s pretty likely that they will, I know there’s pundits who say they won”€™t, I think they probably will. If they do it doesn’t matter who the Republican speaker is you will see a bunch of pro-life votes continue in the House. And that’s the good side of this is voters will get a choice in November and hopefully they’ll choose the pro-life side. Because that’s where the stats in America are America is moving more pro-life.

Rick:

Alright, quick break, guys. We”€™ve got time for one more segment. That means a full segment of good news coming up, so stay with us. You’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

Leadership Training Program

Rick:

Hey, friends! We’ve got a great program to share with you today. It”€™s the WallBuilders Leadership Training Program and it’s an opportunity for 18 to 25 year olds to come spend two weeks diving into the original documents we’re always talking about here on WallBuilders Live.

Tim, you’ve already been doing this a couple of summers and seen the results of young people coming to this program. We’re going to see more of them coming this year.

Tim:

Yeah, Rick, it”€™s something that”€™s been cool to see the transformation with young people coming in. The emphasis, for us, largely is a pursuit of truth. We have a culture that doesn’t know what truth is. We don’t know what biblical truth is, or constitutional truth, or the American heritage that we have. And so we really dive into original documents and say, “€œWell, what did they actually write? What did they actually do? Not just what did somebody say, what is actually true, and the truth is what’s transformational.

David:

Yeah, guys. This really is a remarkable opportunity. And for those who want to spend time with us and spend time in the original documents, this is a great program. So, if you’re from 18 to 25, or you know someone who’s 18 to 25, send them to sign up for one of our three sessions this summer at WallBuilders.com/leadershiptraining.

From the Bible Bee

“€œHebrews 10:19-25, “€˜Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”€™ Hebrews 10:19-25″€

Rick:

Welcome back to WallBuilders Live. That was Amy Matthew, eight years old, giving a great recitation there at the Bible Bee. Be sure and visit their website, BibleBee.org. You’re running out of time because registration is only for a few more weeks, so check it out at BibleBee.org. Get your kids involved in this. Or just go watch the show. I’m telling you, you’re going to be inspired by seeing these kids reciting so much scripture and it just comes from the heart. It’s just really, really, powerful. So, encourage you to check that out at BibleBee.org.

That’s good news in and of itself, guys. We”€™ve got all these kids memorizing, I mean, I”€™m talking hundreds, and hundreds – I think it”€™s 900 scriptures they memorize during this whole process. So, that’s my bit of good news today. I think Tim’s up next with good news.

Tim:

Well, yeah. And, Rick, let me follow up with that thought. I think it’s something that for every parent, for every grandparent, listening this ought to be something we’re encouraging our kids to do – memorize verses from the Bible. I remember one summer years, and years, and years, ago we– our family did not do an allowance system, we did an earning system, more or less. If you did some work, if you went out, you could earn some money. But I guess we were kind of always against socialism from the beginning.

Not Into Welfare

David:

We weren”€™t into welfare really even with our kids. So, you do some work, the Bible says, “€œYou don’t work, you don”€™t eat.”€ Okay, do some work. I”€™ll pay you for that.

Tim:

Yes. So– but some of the work was unique. For example, I remember one summer we were going to go on a trip and if we wanted spending money one of the things we can do to earn money was for every verse we could memorize we could get a quarter for that verse. And so obviously the incentive was memorize verses. And I can imagine some parents–

David:

How long ago do you think that was?

Tim:

Oh man, I was in elementary, so that’s twenty 25 years ago easy.

David:

Inflation apparently does not exist in our family because I’m still giving a quarter to the grandkids. So, here we are 25 years later and it’s still a quarter for a verse.

Tim:

Well, and what’s unique about this is we are incentivizing, encouraging, rewarding, good behavior in this regard. And obviously, knowing that the word of God does not return void, that we want to hide His word in our heart that we might not sin against Him. There’s so many reasons to do this.

David:

By the way, those are all bible verses you just quoted.

Tim:

Those are Bible verse I quoted.

David:

That”€™s right.

If You Can”€™t Quote Bible Verses

Tim:

But for parents and grandparents, and I would even say for every individual listening, if we cannot quote Bible verses, well you ought to just go, “€œYou know what, I’m going to find a verse, I’m going to memorize a verse this week.”€ And if you’re familiar with the Bible, memorize a verse every day. Do things to promote the Bible in your life.

Now, real quick, I”€™ve got to get to things because we’re running out of time for good news. So, we got an email from Evan from Boulder, Colorado. And Evan says, “€œI’ve been a fan of WallBuilders for many years. Not long ago I decided to read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution every month for a year. Now, my city, Boulder, is trying to institute a ban on A.R. Platform Rifles. Including a provision where if you own and don’t register you’ll be a criminal.”€ He says, “€œI recognized it right away as an ex post facto law, Article 1 Section 9 and 10.”€

David:

Good for him. Wow.

Tim:

Yeah, he goes on in this. But the point is, first of all he’s saying, “€œEvery month for a year I read the Declaration and the Constitution.”€ Then something came up and he says, “€œI know exactly where this is in the Constitution. I know the problem with it.”€

David:

That”€™s great.

Tim:

What”€™s crazy though, he then says, “€œAnd even in Federalist 84–“€

David:

Wow.

Tim:

–and he gives it a quote from Federalist 84. So, Evan, this is so encouraging. Bravo to you for saying, “€œI want to understand the nation I live in. Let me go back to the Declaration for the philosophy of government. Let me go to the Constitution for the details of how it operates.”€ We can even go to some of the Federalist Papers for understanding some of the application of the Constitution. But this is really encouraging good news.

The Bible and the Constitution

Tim:

Just like we would tell every Christian, “€œYou need to know the Bible.”€ We would tell every American, “€œYou need to know the Declaration and the Constitution.”€ So, just as we challenged you memorized Bible verses, we would also challenge – study the Declaration, study the Constitution. This will help you as an American. The Bible will help you in life, the Constitution will help you living in America.

Rick:

I was just thinking about the Last Ship. I know that has nothing to do with what you just said except we’ve been watching that. If there’s ever a post apocalyptic world all those people out there that memorized all that scripture and memorized the Declaration, the Constitution, you’re going to be able to rebuild society too. So, another good reason to memorize those things. Seriously, you need to have it in your heart not just in some book on the shelf.
