Run To The Roar, Part 2 – What Do We Do Now? – When the enemy roars like a lion, what should we do? Why are people trying to remove many significant documented facts from the American history classroom? Might it be to replace them with political ideologies? Is it time for Christians to have a new mentality? Are we already in the midst of revival? Tune in to find out!

Faith and the Culture
Rick:
Welcome to WallBuilders Live. This is the intersection of faith and the culture, we’re talking about hot topics of the day from a biblical, historical, and constitutional perspective. We’re actually doing a special three-day program here of a live presentation David Barton just gave a couple of days ago, dealing with everything that’s happening out there and what our approach should be as believers, how to respond to this. So we’re going to jump right in where we left off yesterday.
If you missed yesterday, it’s available on our website right now at wallbuilderslive.com. That’s where you can learn more about our program, learn more about us, the host on the program. I’m Rick Green, former Texas legislator and America’s Constitution coach. David Barton is America’s premier historian and our founder at WallBuilders, and Tim Barton’s a national speaker and pastor and president of WallBuilders.
Today, though, instead of the three of us talking about what’s going on, we’re going to jump right back into David Barton’s presentation called “Running to the Roar”. We’re going to pick up where we left off yesterday. So again, if you missed yesterday, at the website, wallbuilderslive.com, you can catch up. Let’s jump in. Here’s David on Running to the Roar”.
David:
The whole concept of warrior is something that clearly is biblical, but it’s not part of the American church. The American church is not contend. I’m going to show you some stats in a little bit showing where we’ve been, I think God is waking us up. So again, as part of this concept of Running to the Roar”.
Now, you may have seen this past week, Donald Trump’s Twitter account has been suspended. I’ve been told this now permanently banned, we’ll see. And by the way, notice that there’s 90 million followers. You know, that is amazing to me that you’re willing to silence something that’s followed by 90 million people.
The Great Censoring
And then you have General Flynn, the same way. So what you’re seeing and by the way, what is the message with all of this? If you believe conservative things, if you believe what these guys believe, you better shut up. Because if you say anything, we’re going to shut you down.
Now, if you haven’t noticed, that’s what’s going on right now. Amazon on its platform is purging conservative groups off of it. I got message last night that the prolife groups are all being taken off of it. We’ve already seen that on platforms like YouTube, if you’re pro-Israel, if you’re prolife, if you’re pro-Bible, you’re going to get those videos taken down. We’re seeing it across all the media platforms. And the message is really, really clear, shut up.
Because if you say anything, you’re going to lose all of your influence. No, not. No, not. But see, this is the intimidation. This is the center of battle. I mean, oh, yeah, I’m going to double down to what I’m going to do. You know, I’m not going to back off from this, I’m going to go the other way.
And it’s amazing to me that they don’t have any trouble with all the violent groups that are out there. I mean, you’ve got the Antifas and the communists and the anarchists and the others. They’re not having the same trouble that Christians and that conservatives are having.
So there’s a message trying to be sent at this point in time. And again, it’s underway right now, we’ll see what happens. There’s lawsuits going against this, don’t know where they’ll go. But nonetheless, there’s stuff going there. But we go back to the same thing.
In Hebrews 10:38, what does God say? God says, I take no pleasure and the one who shrinks back. Not a good deal to back up and be intimidated. When you have someone get in your face, and I’m not talking physically, I’m talking spiritually, when you have someone spiritually getting your face, you start walking forward, you don’t start walking back. You don’t shut down what you’re doing, you double down on what you’re doing. If the enemy doesn’t want you to do, it’s a great thing to be doing.
A New Mentality
So if the enemy is going to come after you for doing it, do more of that. And that’s the mentality we’ve got to get. It’s yeah, but what if they dox me? What if they put out my family’s address? What if they do what they did to Senator Josh Holley last week? And yeah, what if? Well, I think God can handle that. I think he’s going to be able to handle it. So it’s a matter of us getting our thinking, right. And again, we’ve got to be offensive-minded on this.
So if you get wind of a battle, be bold and run into it. That’s what the war horse does. That’s why God made him that way. We don’t win by letting someone else engage. Somebody else will fight these guys. Somebody else will.
No, you got to be the one who defends the beam patch. You may be the only guy there, you got to defend the beam patch. And that’s the way we’re going to have to start thinking. Because you’re going to see stuff coming in from education, you’re going to see stuff coming from city councils that you’ve never seen before. That’s alright. That’s not a problem.
This is the way the entire history of the world has gone. It’s just that America has been immune from it so long that we’ve gotten soft and fat and lazy and we can’t do that. We have to buff up. We have to get little more engaged. We have to learn how to use our weapons and engage with our weapons. So run into the war, that continues to be the emphasis, let me make the point a different way.
Let’s go to American history textbooks. Right after the election, I was contacted by a man who was a state representative in Minnesota. And in Minnesota, every 10 years, they come back with a new proposed social study standards for all the students in the state. In Texas, we do this every 12 to 15 years, we’ll go back and revise our social studies standards, or our health standards, or our English standards, or whatever.
Erasing History
And so it just happens that Minnesota now, since the election, this is the time for them to revise their history standards, every 10 years they do this. It’s interesting to see what the new proposal is for the history standards for all the students in Minnesota. What they’re proposing is that they removed from all the history books, any mention of the American Revolution, any mention of the Civil War, any mention of World War I, any mention of World War II, and any mention of the Holocaust.
You’re going to take this out of American history, what’s left? And I mean, this is what is defined and shaped America for what we’ve been. Yeah. But if you want to be something different, you have to get rid of the past.
And say, this is why the Bible is always telling us to remember the past, remember the former days, teach your children things that happen in former generations. History is so important. I mean, there’s so many lessons you can learn. But what you always find is that anytime a nation wants to reshape itself, it gets rid of its history so that can become something different.
And so this is the kind of attack we’re going to be seeing. Is we’re going to eliminate every… There’s 1619 project. There’s another one that’s doing the same thing, reshaping history. 1619 project is so historically inaccurate in so many ways. And yet now, all 50 states we have 1619 project being taught in schools across the nation, and it’s dead wrong.
But if you don’t know what history is, then you can remake it and reshape it. And that’s what’s happening here. So what’s happening is what they’re doing is they’re taking out everything that is documentable fact, and they’re now indoctrinated with political opinions, is where they want to go with it.
A Moment from American History
Rick:
Alright, friends, sorry to interrupt David’s presentation, but we’ve got to take a quick break. Stay with us, you’re listening to WallBuilders Live.
This is Tim Barton from WallBuilders with another moment from American history. As the American war for independence began, the president of Yale was the Reverend Naphtali Daggett. When New Haven, the home of Yale came under attack, about 100 citizens rushed out to meet the British. The Reverend Daggett gouged by them on horseback, his clerical robes flowing behind him in the wind, and he took up a solitary position on top of hill.
The 2500 British soon for the townsfolk to fly, but the Reverend Daggett continued to stand alone, firing down on the advancing troops. A British officer confronted him. “What are you doing there, you old fool? If I let you go, will you ever fire again on the troops of His Majesty?” “Nothing more likely” was the preachers reply. America’s early pastors have personally confronted danger and courageously lead their communities.

Rick:
We’re back here on WallBuilders Live. We are in the middle of a presentation from David Barton called “Running to the Roar”, just given a couple of days ago, and we wanted to share it with you our WallBuilders Live listeners. Let’s jump right back in.
It Started in Fort Worth
David:
By the way, if you think this has not been going on the schools around you, that goes on to those wacky blue states up north, it’s been going on in Texas for a good while. Why in the world was Fort Worth, Texas the first place in the United States to say that we want our bathrooms to be no longer gender specific?
We want boys and girls to share the same bathrooms. We want boys and girls who share the same locker… Why was Fort Worth Texas, the Fort Worth Independent School District, they beat New York City, they beat San Francisco, they’d beat Portland, they beat Seattle.
They were the first in the nation to say no genders, and then President Obama said that’s a great idea, put it in the Department of Education. Department of Education said if you get any federal funds, which has all the states in all the schools of United States, you cannot have gender specific bathrooms or locker rooms. Came out of Texas.
So if you think Texas immune from this, again, you haven’t been engaging. This has been going on for a good while. And what happened the battle just a few months ago in November for sex education content, what they’re saying in Texas, you’ve heard Pastor George talk about, they want the age of consent to go down to an elementary school for sexual activity.
The elementary kids can consent to sexual activity, no clue what that involves overall. But see, they no longer see sexual activity as a spiritual act, it’s only a physical act. And therefore because it’s a physical act, it loses all significant consequences. It has consequences of God, we saw them in Bible verses even earlier.
Proverbs 21:22
So what they’re doing is they’re changing the way we teach our kids and you’re going to have to go on the offense with your kids. You’re going to have to protect your kids in a way you’ve never had to protect them for. Not from physical injury, but from spiritual entry and from intellectual injury, from all sorts of other injuries. So the battle is real.
And you know, it’s interesting when you look at a castle, another word for castle is strongholds. Remember the strongholds? We’re told in Proverbs 21:22 it says, a wise man attacks the city of the mighty and tears down the stronghold. There’s an offensive mentality again. If you’re wise, you attack the strongholds.
Now you don’t attack the strongholds, who’s going to be that castle? If you’re wise, you attack the strongholds. You find the big strongholds that they’ve got and start attacking them. That’s what a wise man does, is he attacks his strongholds.
So the way they said in Princess Bride, have fun storming the castle. Exactly. Got to storm the castle, you have to attack the strongholds. And that’s part of what we’re talking about here, being offensive-minded, going on offense, it’s running to the roar. So that’s been five different ways of looking at the same point.
That’s about nine different Bible verses we’ve looked at in there, but it’s the same point about becoming offensive-minded. It’s a whole different mentality for the church and for Americans and for conservatives, we just haven’t been there in a while.
Now, having said that, do you believe we need a revival in America? Okay, I agree. We need a revival. So we’ve been praying for revival. I have seen things happening across the nation I’ve never seen before. I’ve been part of gatherings where there 70,000-80,000 people gathering in arenas and stadiums, praying and fasting for America.
Revivals in the Bible
Last year, on the National Day of Prayer, we had 50,000 groups across America gather in civic locations praying for revival in America. I’ve just never seen so much prayer going for revival in America.
Now, interesting thing about praying for revival is if you’re praying for revival, how do you know when your prayers have been heard and answered? And I say that because being here in Texas, you remember six years ago, we had a serious drought. And we prayed for rain, and rain came and we saw it and we knew that God had answered our prayers.
If you’re praying for revival, how do you know when to stop praying for revival because God’s answered your prayers? What do you look for? It’s not like watching the parched earth soak up the water. How do you know when God’s answered your prayers for revival?
Well, there’s several things we can turn to. The Bible has a lot of examples of revivals in the Bible. If you look at the Bible, you’ll find that there’s revivals in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. So both of them, you have the revivals of such Jehoshaphat, Josiah, you got a lot of revivals in the Bible.
And there’s some really interesting things that happens in those revivals. By the way, if you’ve never noticed, is a real difference between the book of Kings and the book of Chronicles.
Now, the book of Kings was compiled by Jeremiah who did Kings and Ezra who did Chronicles. Ezra is a priest, he’s a priest of God. So when you read Chronicles, you’ll see a spiritual view of a lot of things that happen. Jeremiah is a prophet, and that means he’s in a position of talking to kings, talking to leadership, talking political officials. All the prophets, they connected and interacted with the public leaders.
The Book of Kings from a Political Viewpoint
So what you get when you read the book of Kings is a political viewpoint. What you get when you read the book of Chronicles is a spiritual viewpoint. Which is why in the book of Kings, you will say the king so and so died and was buried with his fathers. In the book of Chronicles, the same king, it’ll say, and king so and so sinned against God, and God struck him down and he was buried with his fathers.
So you get the political side over here, and you get the spiritual side over here. It’s interesting that every single one of these revivals on the side over here, the spiritual side, it says, and the people rose up and threw the sodomites out of the temple. That’s public policy. You have a change in mentality towards sexual immorality.
And see, that’s something that was in law, because it doesn’t appear over here in Chronicles on the spiritual side, it appears over here on the political side. Which means when you have the spiritual change, it works itself out in your laws, it works itself out in public policy. So when there’s revival going on, you will see a change in public policy.
That’s one way you can measure. It’s interesting to me that the measurement shown three times there was a change in the way that homosexuality was viewed even in that nation. Because they got into being completely open and embracing and accepting. And then when revival came, they had no, no, we need sexual purity.
And it’s not just homosexuality. Adultery is the same way. Premarital sex is the same way. Anything that violates sex outside of what God put in parameters, and that sex inside of marriage between a man and a woman, anything else is wrong. And so there’s a change in mentality toward that when there’s revival.
So in addition to having the biblical revivals, you also have the revivals that occurred in America. We have a number of revivals that have occurred in America. As you look at those various revivals, you can learn a lot from them.
American Revivals
So when you take our American experience and combine it with biblical experience, there’s a lot of lessons I can point to. And I want to show you six things that have always been part of a revival. Especially in America, it’s easy to show, but they’re also biblically there.
So in doing those six things, I want you to go through because I literally believe that America is in a revival right now. Now, that’s weird, because this is a very unhappy time for a lot of people. Do you know, every time we’ve had a major revival in America, we’ve had major national conflict.
We’ve had wars or civil wars, or we’ve had all sorts of turmoil, revivals happen at times. See, we see a revival as being a nice kind of smooth thing, it’s not. It’s a difficult thing, because revival is changing the way people think, changing the way they act, and that’s not an easy thing to do. It often takes a lot of stress to that.
If you’re an athlete, you know that you have to break down your muscles before they become strong again. And so part of what happens in revival is it’s not the comfortable position we often think about, never is it historically that way. We like to glamorize it. But looking back, but I want to take you into some.
So in doing that, first off, I want to hit two mentalities, I want to give an overall perspective. The way we’re thinking right now is going to have to change if we’re going to see the revival we want. There’s at least two areas where that as the church in American, and I don’t mean right here, I mean, the church in America, we do a lot of polling, we work with George Barne and do a lot of polling nationally.
And I can tell you where the church in America is. And if the church is going to be part of the revival, there’s going to have to be some things that change. And so let me deal with two areas to start with right up top.
Grassroots is Key
The first is we have an obsession with a national focus. This is natural, because what we do on media outlets, is we have 24/7/365 of national news. And so what we’re getting is we’re getting inundated with what’s happening in DC, or what’s happening with government. We very rarely know what’s happening in our own community. We know what’s happening in the nation more than we know what’s happening in our own community. And so that’s the nature of the way our media is right now.
And so, when you look at that situation, you look at what’s happening with Congress, we know what’s happened in Congress, we know what happened last week, we know what happened last Wednesday; when they met at one o’clock eastern time, we know what happened the next several hours after that. We know what’s happened, for example, with also the Supreme Court that they have refused to take up a lot of cases that a lot of us wish they would have taken up.
Now they’re going to look at doing the case, maybe in February, maybe in March, maybe in April. We know what’s happened with the White House, all the things I’ve gone to the White House.
And quite frankly, guys, I have a lot of connections at all those levels. I got friends in every one of those places. And you know what? I can’t get anything changed at all. There’s probably 120 members of Congress, I consider to be close friends, we text back and forth, we call back and forth. I can’t change a single thing that happen in the Congress.
I cannot change a single thing that happen in the White House, I cannot change a single thing that happened in the Supreme Court, even though we’ve got Justices in the court that we correspond with. I can’t do a single thing. And that’s me with connections. And a lot of people don’t have connections I’ve got.
So what happens is as a result of what we see on the news, we feel completely paralyzed. We can’t do anything. I don’t think probably anybody in this room feels confident that we can go up and change anything that happened. We can. And so we get paralyzed because we are so inundated with a national news. Now let me show you a different viewpoint.
The American Story
Rick:
Alright, we got to take another break here. Folks, stay with us, that’s David Barton you’ve been listening to, “Running to the Roar”. We’ll pick up where we left off when we come back on WallBuilders Live.
Hey, guys, we want to let you know about a new resource we have at WallBuilders called The American Story. For so many years, people have asked us to do a history book to help tell more of the story that’s just not known or not told today. And we would say very providentially, in the midst of all of the new attacks coming out against America, whether it be from things like the 1619 project that say America is evil and everything in America was built off slavery.
Which is certainly not true or things like even the Black Lives Matter movement, the organization itself, not out of statement, Black Lives Matter, but the organization that says we’re against everything that America was built on, and this is part of the Marxist ideology. There’s so many things attacking America.
Well, is America worth defending? What is the true story of America? We actually have written and told that story. Starting with Christopher Columbus, going roughly through Abraham Lincoln, we tell the story of America, not as the story of a perfect nation or a perfect people, but the story of how God used these imperfect people and did great things through this nation. It’s a story you want to check out wallbuilder.com “The American Story”.
Rick:
Welcome back. Thanks for staying with us here on WallBuilders Live. Final segment of the day, we’re not going to get all of David’s presentation in. In fact, today is the second part in a three part series, so we’ll get the rest tomorrow. But let’s dive back in where we left off before the break.
The American Revolution
David:
Let me take you back to the American Revolution, American war for independence. In the American Revolution, the American war for independence, the first four battles that occurred, interesting the way they occurred. Because top right, you’ve got the battle of Lexington; top left, the battle of North Bridge of Concord; bottom left, the road to Boston, bottom right, you got the Battle of Bunker Hill.
Those are the first four battles the American Revolution. In those four battles, not one single time did they call the national commander in chief and say, hey, George, we need help down here. Can you send some troops? Never happened. Not one single time. Because the whole thinking was, this is our community, we’ll take care of the battle here. You guys can do what you need to elsewhere. We’ve got this.
And so if I take you, for example, to what happened with the Battle of Lexington, 700 British came marching the town, when they did and it was a small little community. Lexington was just a bump on the map. There were not a big community at all. They became famous because of what happened there. They were just a little blip on the screen. When 700 British came to town, Reverend Jonas Clarke said not in our town, you don’t. He had 70 guys from his church go out and face the 700 British. 70 guys, they only had, they were obviously at number 10:1, but they said it’s our community, we’ll take care of our community.
So the church in Lexington went out to face the 700 British. After that battle, the British go on to the battle of North Bridge of Concord. That’s the second battle. At that point, the Reverend William Emerson has 300 guys from his church out there to meet them. Not in Concord, you don’t. This is our community, you’re not doing it here. And so that was a local conflict.
The Battle of Bunker Hill
On the road back to Boston, which is a third battle, you had about 4,500 Americans lining the road on both sides shooting at the British. And they were gathered largely by pastors, Reverend Pearson Phillips, and Benjamin Boss, and so many others brought their churches out, we’re going to defend our homes, we’re going to defend our property, you’re not going to do this.
So then you get the fourth battle, the Battle of Bunker Hill and Reverend Joseph Willard said, hey, I’m taking several companies out of my church over and we’re fighting the battle. So the whole mentality was, we’re taking care of our local community. We’ll take care of what happens here.
You guys take care of the national stuff, we’ll take care of the local stuff. And what happens is, when you get enough local victories won, that’s how you win a national victory. You don’t win a national victory. You win local victories to the point that you have a national victory.
And so what happened is we won the battle of Cowpens and we won the battle of Kings Mountain, and we won battles everywhere. And when you have enough local victories, you get a national victory. We keep looking for a national victory. What we need is a bunch of local victories. We start putting local victories together and start winning the local. But we can’t do that because we keep looking at national stuff. You got to start looking at local stuff.
You need to start looking around, what’s going on in Newark, what’s going to Fort Worth, what’s going on Wise County, what’s going on Parker County, what’s going on in Tarrant County? Where are the battles that I can engage right here? And that’s a little harder for us to do today, because we don’t have the information stream that we really need. Our information stream is all national.
A Local Focus
So what you have to get is you have to get a local focus. If you don’t have the local focus, you will not have the results. You never win it from the top down, you win it from the bottom up every single time. And so the battles in which we have to engage need to be right, that local focus. And by the way, national revivals, that’s exactly the same. That’s the way they work. When you look at national revivals, they occur locally.
Now, we know about people in the Great Awakening like George Whitfield, and my gosh, what George Whitfield did is unbelievable. George Whitfield, 34 years of preaching, he preached 18,000 sermons. As a result of George Whitfield preaching, what you have is you had 80% of all Americans physically heard him preach a sermon. Now, man, would you like 80% penetration into all the American public today if you could get 80% to hear a message?
He did. But it’s not because he had a national meeting. He went from every single… How many towns in America you have to show up in for 80% of the people to hear you? Especially considering the fact that you don’t have national media back then. You don’t have the media, you don’t have any of the communication factors we’ve got now. You just have to be there. So how many towns did he have to go in to preach?
And so it’s not just George Whitfield by the way. We like to look at him because he’s the one we remember best. But you also had Samuel Cooper, what he did up in Massachusetts was amazing. He took his local area in Massachusetts. You had the same thing with Gilbert Tennent in Pennsylvania, what Gilbert Tennent did around the Philadelphia area.
See, Samuel Cooper up in the Boston area, Gilbert Tennent in the Philadelphia area, you had Samuel Davies down in the valley in Virginia. I mean, these guys had huge impact in their areas. And when you start having impact in areas, it all goes together. It looks like a national revival. We call the Great Awakening a national revival.
Run To The Roar, Part 2 – What Do We Do Now?
Yeah, kind of, but if it’s a massive number of local revivals is what it was. You had all these local revivals, they combined together to make a national revival. And that’s the way we identified today, but it was actually local. So national revivals, they occur locally.
