We sure would appreciate your support in helping us to do that, so go to WallBuilders.com today.
David, Tim, look forward to some good news today. I think David starts us off, what’s our first piece of good news?
Sodom and Gomorrah
David:
Ok, going to an account from the Bible, if you guys go back to Genesis 19, can you briefly summarize for me the story of Sodom and Gomorrah?
Tim:
Yes I can.
David:
Will you?
Rick:
Go for it, Tim.
Tim:
So, Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot, when he separates from Abraham, he goes in and he sets up shop outside Sodom and Gomorrah. At some point he moves into the city, and while he’s in the city, God, or an angel—I guess you could argue that, right—an angel comes and talks to Abraham. This city, Sodom and Gomorrah, is evil, and Abraham begged and pleaded with God., “Can spare it for fifty, or for twenty, or for ten,” and negotiates with God not to destroy the city.
Angels go to Sodom and Gomorrah, they meet Lot. Lot invites them to come into his house. At that point there are some Saddamites, aka homosexuals, who come to the house and they begin banging on the door, demanding that Lot bring out “these men”, as they call them (they were angels), that they may know them in a biblical sense. At this point Lot—
David:
And a  biblical sense means they want to have sex with them.
Tim:
Well, yes. Not just have sex with them, because it doesn’t even seem like they were concerned with the whole consensual issue. So they say, “We”re going to rape these guys, is what we want to do.”
Lot”s like, “No, we’re not going to do that.”
So the angels help bar the door, then they blind the guys. So the story concludes with Lot and his family being rushed out of the city as the angels are going to be there as God brings destruction on the city.
Fact of Fable?
David:
As Lot and his family go out, the angel says, “You’ve got to get out of here fast.”
Lot says, “It”s too far for us to go to get away from here. Let us go to a closer place.”
They said, “OK, we’ll spare a certain part of the city over here in the plains, but the rest of the plain is going to be wiped out.”
Then that’s when they said don’t look back. Lot’s wife did, and she became a pillar of salt. It’s all a nice, great fable. It’s found in the Bible.
Tim:
Woah, woah, woah, you said fable, sir.
David:
I did. I said Fable.
Tim:
No, no. It’s in the Bible. I’m gonna believe this until it’s proven to be inaccurate.
David:
No, since science will never be able to prove this one, this is a fable.
Tim:
Now you better stop all that, because listeners might not know that you’re not being honest.
David:
Here’s what I’ve got here. I have in my hand a report of a study where scientists have found that a, quote, “Superheated blast from the skies,” end quote, destroyed cities near the Dead Sea 37 hundred years ago, which biblical analysts say reflect the destruction of Saddam, and then it goes into a little more detail.
It says the scientists discovered radiocarbon dating and unearthed materials that instantly crystallized at high temperatures, and what used to be cities and farm settlements north of the Dead Sea.
“Some Kind of Gigantic, Fiery Blast”
A massive air burst destroyed communities in a 15 mile wide circular plain after the cataclysmic event. People did not return to the region for six to seven hundred years, and they said they even found walls that had just been, essentially, crystallized. Thirty seven hundred years ago, the mud brick walls were just hit with some kind of gigantic fiery blast.
Hmm.
Kind of sounds like Genesis 19.
Rick:
Interesting.
David:
So maybe it’s not a fable after all. Maybe what archaeology does is it keeps helping science catch up to the Bible. It keeps affirming what is in the Bible.
We’ve talked to our friend Amir Eshel from Israel, who is an archaeologist. He said they have not found a single discovery in archaeology yet that contradicts anything that is in the Bible.
That’s thousands and thousands of discoveries. So now we have another one, and it looks like this Sodom and Gomorrah may have been a real story, now born out by scientific archaeological discoveries.
Rick:
So the fables would actually be the writings out there that said the Bible stories weren’t true.
More Proof of the Accuracy of the Bible
David:
See, we have a lot of accounts on here to show how accurate the Bible is, and if you’re a new listener and you’re not used to my sarcasm and facetiousness—we have medical study after medical study proving that biblical health habits and other habits are right, that what the Bible says about morality is right, and even what it says about history is right. This is another discovery showing the historical side of the Bible is accurate, and here’s another piece of evidence stating that, so you can have great confidence in the accuracy of the Bible.
Rick:
Science catching up with the Bible once again. Quick break guys, we’ll be right back. Tim Barton’s got our next piece of good news. Stay with us here on WallBuilders Live.
Moment From America”s History
David:
This is David Barton with another moment from America’s history. In the minds of many today, Government is a purely secular institution and is not in any way to be joined to religious principles. The result is that too often our public policies are now enacted without any consideration of their spiritual consequences. However, the Founding Fathers believed that even a political act should always be examined from a spiritual viewpoint. For example, in his inaugural address President George Washington declared, “We ought to be persuaded that the favorable smiles of heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.” President George Washington believed that the blessings of heaven would reside on this nation only so long as its national policies embraced godly standards. Trump”s Social Media Address
Rick:
Welcome back to WallBuilders Live. Thanks for staying with us on this Good News Friday. Looking for more good news, this time from Tim Barton. Go ahead, bro.
Tim:
All right guys. This is something going back to Thanksgiving. I know it’s Good News Friday, and we’re giving good news, but part of my good news is that I’m thankful. One of the things I’m thankful for is President Trump”s social media address.
He had a video that he put out on the social media platforms, and it really was very encouraging, especially as a Christian and as a believer.
One of the things that we talk about is that, sometimes even at Christmas, people are offended by having the word Christ in Christmas. We can’t talk about that, and we don’t want to do that, and you see different department stores, and you know we’re going to have to celebrate the holidays and it’s not Christmas we’re celebrating.
We’ve just kind of moved away from mentioning God, or Christ even, at Christmas time. But if you did not see President Trump”s social media video at Thanksgiving, I encourage you to go back, look it up on YouTube. Go watch it.
It was very much something where he acknowledges from the very beginning, and all throughout, the reason we do Thanksgiving is because of God. In fact, he started off and he said as Americans we’ve come together to remember our blessings and give thanks to God.
Thanksgiving: Being Thankful to God
So we’re remembering the benefits of what we enjoy in our life, and we are thankful to God for those. He went on to thank God for the military, and for those that serve, and said we need to pray for the people that—at the time I think it was California, what was going on in California—the wildfires—and pray for all that’s happening there.
And he concluded by saying, “We thank God for the blessings of being American. The joy of spending time with loved ones, and the sacrifices made by the heroes who keep America safe, strong, and free. Thank you. God bless you and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.”
And as he concluded I thought that was so encouraging to hear someone who is not afraid to acknowledge there is a God, to say, “Let’s thank God for our military, let’s pray for people that are hurting, in need, in America. Amen.”
Let’s recognize that we’ve been blessed by God even to be Americans. There’s so many things that are politically correct, or culturally would not be largely accepted, and saying, “Well, you can’t thank God for being an American.”
And you know what we hear in colleges today about how you have to be critical of America, and all the problems of America… and we have a president saying, “No, thank God that we are Americans.” Which, by the way, is the right position. Right after that comment, if you don’t understand how unique America is, go on a mission trip with your church to a third world nation. Go spend a couple of weeks at other nations of the world and see how they live, and you will quickly recognize the blessings and benefits that you enjoy simply because you are an American.
A Tradition of Presidents Before Obama
But again having a president that acknowledges this and is saying, “Let’s make sure we thank God for this.”
Just so refreshing. And again, if you have not seen that video, you can go on YouTube to the president social media page. You can see this video. It”s a really neat address, but it’s fun to have a president who’s not afraid to acknowledge God, talk about faith as an American, praying for people who are in need, and thanking God for our military. Just overall a really good address.
Rick:
Now, it’s refreshing, Tim. Right? Isn’t this a throwback? Isn’t this a return to how presidents used to be?
Tim:
Well, yes And actually I would say even just two presidents ago, if you go back to George Bush, it was not unusual for George W. Bush to even have these sentiments.
David:
Actually, most—or even actually the first George W.
Tim:
Most presidents throughout the history of our nation were not afraid to say these kind of sentiments and to express these kinds of thoughts about thanking God for our troops, and thanking God that we’re Americans, and praying for people in need.
It really was the Obama administration that changed a lot of this attitude toward faith. But it’s so great to see a president who’s willing to go back in the direction that we had in America for literally hundreds of years.
This Goes Back to Washington
David:
And by the way, when I said the first George W., that’s George Washington, who also acknowledged God, who also asked Americans to pray for the veterans and those who had served in the field, also asked that we pray for those that were in need from calamity.
So the items you just went through actually go back to George Washington’s 1789 Thanksgiving proclamation, and another proclamation Washington had throughout his presidency. If you want to read that 1789 proclamation, we’ve got it posted on the website, you can see the actual printing of it. We have all the words transcribed as well, and we’ve had others of Washington’s proclamations there.
So lots that you can see there. And Tim, what I thought was also cool about the part of the president’s address that you read, what President Trump said goes against the narrative that we keep seeing spread across the country. We get evidence of this when parents send us excerpts from their student textbooks, or tell us what their teacher told the students in class, that is that Thanksgiving was a time to say thank you to the Indians. There was nothing God about it. There was no God centered aspect, and so they really turn it into something quite extraordinarily secular.
Back to our Roots
What President Trump did was take us back to our original roots of remembering that Thanksgiving is a God centered time, not a grateful heart centered time. It’s a grateful heart to God, and that’s a great thing that came out in his address on Thanksgiving.
Rick:
So we want to have a grateful heart, but not just a grateful heart. We want to have a grateful heart to God for the things that we have. All right guys, quick break. We’ll be right back. We’ve got more good news when we return here on WallBuilders Live.
Join Us In Israel!
Hey guys what are you doing January 28th through February 7th? If you said you don’t know, let me give you an idea. We are going to Israel. Rick Green, my dad, David Barton, Tim Barton, our families are going and we would love for you to go with us. We are going to the Holy Land if you’ve ever been to Israel this is something as a Christian that will make you forever read your bible differently.
To see where Jesus walked, where He lived, where He did miracles, where so much of the Bible took place. If you’ve ever read through the Bible and you’ve given it a mental picture, the mental picture will not do justice of what happens when you’re actually on the ground. If you’ve ever thought about the story of David and Goliath and you”ve envisioned what it looks like, we’re going to go to the actual field where it took place.
There are so many things that you will see that literally makes the Bible come to life. In fact, that’s the name of the tour group we”re going with is The Bible Comes to Life. Go to CMJacksboro.com. You can click on the link, it has an Israel itinerary, all kinds of details. Hope to see you on this trip this coming year.
Your Donations Help
Rick:
We’re back on WallBuilders Live, thanks for staying with us on this Good News Friday, and by the way be sure to check out WallBuildersLive.com if you’d like some more good news, we actually have an archives section there.
You can actually go back several months and pick up some of the previous programs here on WallBuilders Live, including those Good News Fridays, Foundations of Freedom Thursdays, and the interviews we have on Monday through Wednesday. We would love to have you consider us for one of your interviewer gifts as well, because that helps us to continue those great programs and bring them to you.
So check that out at WallBuildersLive.com today. You can even begin a monthly gift and make a commitment throughout next year to continue to support the program. We sure appreciate that. Alright guys, let’s jump into some more good news, I believe David”s got it—
Tim:
Let me let me jump in real quick and just say that we are so grateful for those that do come along and partner with us, and our monthly givers, whether it’s two dollars a month, or five dollars, or ten dollars, or twenty dollars a month. That is what allows us to be on the air and to continue this. We have been blessed that we’ve been able to collect a lot of documents from the founding era.
Every Little Bit Helps
We spent a lot of time researching the Founding Fathers and learning about who they are and what they wrote, and therefore knowing what they believed through what they wrote. And trying to find how this applies to us in culture today and what’s the original intent of the Constitution. But with all this information that God’s allowed us to collect, it’s really only valuable when we’re able to share it with people who then can take it and utilize it for what they are doing.
People that come along and are supporting us for that five dollars a month, or ten dollars a month, or whatever it is, they’re helping us to be able to remain on the air and to expand to other stations and for people to hear this. This is not something that we say flippantly, this is really a big deal and so we really are so grateful for those that have come along and partnered with us. We would ask for those that appreciate what we do to be willing to come along and become a supporter.
Be somebody that can invest in the next generation, that can invest in the future of the nation by helping promote these biblical and constitutional values that we’re doing so often here, especially on WallBuilders Live. So we’re so grateful for those that already are partnering and we’d encourage other people to come alongside and join in with us with promoting these biblical and constitutional values.
“How Can I Make a Difference?”
Rick:
Yet I can’t help but think, Tim, we do so often get asked, “What can I do? How can I make a difference? I see negative things in the country, or I see the direction of the country.”
People are often wanting to help, but not knowing what to do. Of course we’re a very action-oriented program. In virtually every program we’re giving people action steps of who to call, things they can do in their community, and that sort of thing.
But finances is a big part of the action. The founders specifically said, “Lives, fortunes, and sacred honor.”
It’s almost the easier thing to do, right? People can quickly make a donation with a credit card, or send it in a check, or whatever. They may think that doesn’t make much of a difference, let me tell you: it does.
That’s what fuels the ability to get the good information and the education in front of as many Americans as possible so that you can change the culture in a positive way. So folks, please don’t in any way think that your gift can’t make a difference, or, “I’m not in a position to make a big difference.”
Whether it’s five dollars or a five thousand dollar check, you are investing in freedom for the next generation. And frankly for our generation as well, so appreciate what you said Tim. I just think it’s important. People need to know they can make a difference and this is one of the easiest. I’m not saying giving of your money is easy, but it’s quick and you can definitely know that it’s going to make a big difference through WallBuilders.
Mario Murillo: Challenging Christians
Tim:
It really does. It allows us to do things like Good News Friday, where we can hear about positive things that help encourage us. And dad, I know you were about to go to one when I jumped in and kind of interrupted the process.
David:
Well, it’s one that I have been waiting to see for a really long time, and I guess having white hair I can say that better than you guys can. I’ve been waiting for this a really long time. It deals with the recent election results.
Now, we look back to the election, it’s amazing. Here we are weeks from the election, and just this week we were still having U.S. Congressional races called that have been counting votes for for over a month. So we’re still in an election season, even though the votes were cast weeks and weeks ago. But what I found absolutely amazing, is a nationally noted Minister, Mario Murillo, who has a huge ministry.
The guy is all over television. Fills stadiums. He actually did an op ed piece that went national after the election, where he called out Christians, pastors, and churches for having done the wrong thing in the election. I’ve never heard a national minister be so blunt. I want to read some of the things he said here, because it really is quite astounding.
The Pulpit”s Fault
He said, “Millions of born again, spirit filled Christians voted for the Democrat Party.” He said, “What I am about to say will close the doors for me to preach in Atlanta and other big cities. That’s sad, because it’s a great city with many wonderful, powerful churches. It’s even possible that some will try to accuse me of being a racist, a charge that I will summarily ignore. So don’t bother.”
He said “It is true not just in Atlanta, but in Houston and, for that matter, every city in America. It’s no surprise how this has happened. It’s the pulpit”s fault. Believers are fed all the verses on blessing, and few that relate to conscience. This is how they can walk into a voting booth oblivious to the fact that the Democrat Party has declared war on the Bible. Hillary Clinton said, quote, “We must change religious beliefs.” You’re not innocent from knowing what you’re voting for. A vote is not a statement just of what you’re against, but of what you’re for.”
He went on to talk about homosexuality, to talk about abortion, he called out Christians, any Christian, that voted for the Democrat Party. He said, “You voted for abortion. You voted for all the wrong things in the Bible.”
As a matter of fact, he has one more statement here I want to read. He says a famous country and western singer was asked why she supported same sex marriage. She said, quote, “My pastor told me not to judge,” End quote.
“An Out of Bible Experience”
There it is. The body of what has happened, and what my good friend Dusty Kemp calls, quote, “An out of Bible experience.”
Not out of body, but out of Bible experience.
Rick:
That’s good.
David:
“Many California Christians especially suffer from biblical malnutrition that they can’t even fathom what is wrong with so many things that the Word of God calls sin.”
Tim:
Wow.
David:
And he goes on. Now, does this show how accurate this is? Let’s go to Kansas for a minute, because Kansas is a heavily Republican state. Kansas is a state that’s elected a lot of Christian leaders, and this time they chose to elect a Democrat governor. The Democrat governor’s not even sworn in yet, and she’s already said, “Oh, by the way, this law you passed for conscience protection for Christians that said that Christian organizations don’t have to place children into same sex families? That’s discrimination. It”s going out the door.”
So already—she’s not even sworn in yet and she’s declared war on Christian conscience, and that’s the result of Christians in Kansas voting for someone who holds a non biblical position. So it’s terrific we’re having a national leader actually stand up, and have some backbone, and call out the church, and call out Christians.

Rick:
David, what did you say his name was again?
David:
Mario Morello.
Rick:
Wow, that’s powerful. Can we do a link today? Do you have that available.
David:
We’ve got the article. We can link to that, and also link to his ministry. Let’s see who the guy is. Again, all over the world crusades to fill stadiums. Big known name.
Rick:
That’s awesome. That’s so good. Quick break, we’ll come back to one more piece of good news before we close out today. Thanks for staying with us here at WallBuilders Live. We’ll be right back for more good news.
This Precarious Moment Book
David:
This is David Barton. I want to let about a brand new book we have called This Precarious Moment, Six Urgent Steps That Will Save You, Your family, and Our Country. Jim Garlow and I have co-authored this book and we take six issues that are hot in the culture right now.
Issues that we’re dealing with, issues such as immigration, race relations, our relationship with Israel, the rising generation Millennials, and the absence of the church in the culture wars, and where American heritage is, our godly heritage. We look at all six of those issues right now that are under attack and we give you both Biblical and historical perspective on those issues that provide solutions on what each of us can do right now to make a difference.
These are all problems that are solvable if we’ll get involved. So you can grab the book This Precarious Moment and find out what you can do to make a difference. This Precarious Moment is available at WallBuilders.com.
Moments From America’s History
This is David Barton with another moment from America’s history. Today, numerous court decisions demonstrate that there’s often a conflict between the courts, the law, and religion. Has this conflict always existed?
Not according to James Wilson. Â James Wilson was a signer of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. He was a law professor as well as an original justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. James Wilson saw no conflict between religion and the law. In fact, just the contrary.
He declared, “Human law must rest its authority ultimately upon the authority of that law which is divine. Far from being rivals or enemies religion and law are twin sisters, friends, and mutual assistance. Â Indeed, these two sciences run into each other.”
In the views of Founding Father James Wilson religion and good civil law were inseparable. For more information on God’s hand in American history contact WallBuilders at 1-800-8-REBUILD.
Basketball Players Baptized!
Rick:
Thanks for staying with us here on WallBuilders Live. Time for one more piece of good news. Tim Barton’s up. Go ahead bro.
Tim:
Alright guys. This is related to college sports, and actually basketball. One of the teams that is in the top 10 right now is the Tennessee Volunteers which, for their basketball program, it’s been a little while, a long time, since they’ve been in the top 10.
It’s been a little while since they’ve been in the top 10, but they are in the top 10. They are a very good basketball team, and they just beat the number one team.
But what’s interesting about this is I have an article, and it’s, “Five of Tennessee’s players get baptized,” and quotations far more important than any win we’ve ever had. And what’s interesting about this is one of their guards, Grant Williams, shared on social media that two of his teammates, Kyle Alexander and Jordan Bowden, dedicated their lives to Jesus Christ. In the quote it says, “What a day.”
Williams posted on Instagram. The quote goes on, but he concludes it saying, “Two of my brothers were baptized, and then took a step closer to the Lord.”
He concluded his post with how much he values the team.
We Love Sports, and this is Great News
He said, “This volunteer team is something I cherish, and we’re just getting started.” Then Alexander, who was one of the two players who was baptized, he then got on social media and confirmed that he had just been baptized. So it’s actually pretty cool. We are people, for those of you who listen to the show, we are sports fans, and we’ll often heckle each other about sports, and which sports are real sports or not, and what teams we like. We certainly enjoy sports, but as Christians it’s so cool, not just that there are good teams and great athletes we can watch, but to see people even in the midst of sports come to see or know something even greater than sports, which is Jesus.
And these guys getting baptized, just a really neat story coming from a couple of basketball players from the Tennessee Volunteers.
Rick:
Yeah. In fact I was thinking, my dad was telling me just the other day about the— I think it was Alabama football team with the quarterback praying in the huddle. Even like last year, after winning the championship, go on and when they went to the White House laid hands on the president and prayed for him.
Scientists Confirm the Bible and More on Good News Friday!
I love those kind of stories, and it’s just cool for an athlete that’s at the top of their game, and in these kinds of environments, not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ and actually proclaiming it. It”s definitely good to celebrate. More good news for us.
