Faith and the Culture

Rick:

This is the intersection of faith and the culture. It’s WallBuilders Live, where we are taking on the hot topics of the day from a biblical, historical, and constitutional perspective. If you look at any issue from those three perspectives, you’re easily going to find the right answer. The Bible addresses everything in our life.

The Constitution lays out very clearly what the proper role of government is, and then, of course, we can learn so much from history. Don’t repeat the bad mistakes we’ve made. Look for the good decisions, try to repeat those. So much of it is actually easy to figure out. We try to complicate these things and make it like it’s really hard, but it’s actually not. All the answers are right there if we will just look for that truth and then stand for that truth and fight for that truth. So glad you’re joining us today.

My name is Rick Green. I’m a former Texas legislator and America’s Constitution coach. And I’m here with David Barton, America’s premier historian and our founder here at WallBuilders and also Tim Barton, national speaker and pastor and president of WallBuilders. Love working with these two guys and love bringing this truth to you on a daily basis.

I hope you’ll go to our website today at wallbuilderslive.com, make your one-time or monthly contribution, support us so that we can get that truth out to more people. And while you’re there on the website, you can dive into the archives, you can look back and listen to programs you might have missed over the last few weeks and months, but also get some great materials for yourself and your family to dive in and get more of that education that will empower and inspire you to make a difference and help us restore America’s constitutional republic.

Alright, David and Tim, we got Kimberly Fletcher back with us from Moms for America to specifically talk about their voter guide. So we’re about a month out, I guess, just a few weeks left before the big election, the midterm election? In the midterm of a president’s first term, typically, the opposing party wins big, so a lot of people expecting a Republican victory also because of just the chaos of this administration and the Afghanistan and all the other things. But Moms for America, now super active, growing like crazy, has decided to put out their own voter guide, and they’re rating the Senators and the Congressmen.

A Significant Report Card

So this should be a good tool for people that back home may not know much about their Congressmen or the US Senator.

David:

There really are two kinds of scorecards that are out there. One kind is what Moms for America have done, where they take you to your incumbent and show you how the incumbents voted. So what you find out is my incumbent got an A or C or D or an F, and I thought he was really good.

And here I see he’s got an F, I didn’t think he was good, but he’s got an A+. It’s that kind of a thing to help you know whether you want that incumbent back. It does not give you the challenges, it gives you the incumbents. And so you can find out whether your incumbent is really as good as his ads or her ads say that he or she is. This lets you know, because this looks at the voting record.

And they took, I think, eight or ten different items and I looked at them, they’re really solid items. I mean, they really do represent conservative stuff, whether you’re going to allow the government to keep growing, whether you’re going to do things that push inflation through the top, whether you’re going to have limited spending, whether you’re going to put parents in control of education. Pretty basic stuff. So the scorecard they’ve got is one that shows you what your incumbent is.

Now, there’s other scorecards out the cycle as well, and those take the challenger and the incumbent and they put them together, or if it’s an open race, the two challengers and say, here’s what they believe on eight or ten issues. We’re doing one of these in Colorado. We just printed more than a million in Colorado, and it goes through in on state House races, state senate races, congressional races.

It takes pretty basic stuff. Where are you on certain crime measures? Where are you on government growth measures? Where are you on moral issues, on abortion, on LGBTQ? And it lets you see where each side is on that so you can select someone that is close to your values.

Two Different Scorecards

Those are the two different types of scorecards and they’re both really, really valuable. Citizens can get these. They’re really easy to get their online. They’re going to be with the organizations that do them. Or you can search for Voters Guides. Christianvoterguide.com has voters guides up in every race, every election. So there’s really a lot of places you can go to get information.

And we found that when you get information, voter turnout goes up. There’s a lot of people who don’t vote because they don’t know what they believe; they don’t want to do the wrong thing and get the wrong person in, so they just don’t vote. But this is a good way to have some confidence when you go vote. I have their voting record. I see what they’ve done. I have what they say their positions are. I can make an informed decision. And when you do that, voter turnout usually goes up. And when voter turnout goes up, conservatives usually do much better than liberals do.

We get beat as conservatives when our people don’t show up because they don’t know what’s in the race, they don’t know who the school board candidates are, whatever it is. So this is a really helpful way to get it.

And so Kimberly Fletcher with Moms for America, we’ve had her own before, and they do great work. She’s got this new voters got out and it’s really worth looking at. Just before we went on there, we all went through it and we really do agree with the way they ranked the Senators and the Congressmen and others and the votes they’ve had.

So we think they’ve done a really good job putting this together and covering the good issues, strong issues. We think this is going to be a real good help for folks.

Voter Guides Increase Turnout

Tim:

Yeah, and it’s something too, that for so many people, as we look in the upcoming election season, one of the more common questions that we will get, we get emails and posts on social media is just asking for help. Where do we get information on who’s running, who are the better candidates? And certainly there are a lot of voters guides out there.

But always based on who puts the voters guides together, they’re going to have some level of bias to determine and rank what member was the most conservative, or what members the most liberal, etc. How are you ranking this? What measure are you using? And what are the really good voter guides out there to give us the right information to help us make better decisions?

We know that when people have voter guides, it actually increases voter turnout, especially when it’s in a written form, it gives them clarity on who’s running on the positions they hold, so they can actually know who holds the values they want to support. So this is something very important and there are so many groups out there.

We’re seeing more and more groups step up that are working to make a difference in the nation. And there are some really great moms groups and organizations out there doing some great things. And this is just yet another example of group, just normal people who said, let’s get together and make a difference. And they are making a difference.

Rick:

Kimberly Fletcher, our special guest. When we come back, we’re going to talk about the Moms for America Voter Guide with the folks that actually created it and how you can get one to share in your community as well. Stay with us, you’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

AMERICAN HISTORY

This is Tim Barton from WallBuilders with Another Moment from American history. In 1063, the United States Supreme Court decided that voluntary Bible reading could no longer be part of the school day.

Founding Father Benjamin Rush, known as the father of public schools under the Constitution pointedly warned that the Bible should be read in schools in preference to all other books. He specifically warned that if America ever ceased promoting biblical principles in schools, then we would waste so much time and money and punishing crimes and take so little pains to prevent them. He was right.

We now have 7 million Americans in prison, on probation or on parole, and the United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Sadly, this was unnecessary, but is the result of no longer teaching the morals of the Bible in schools. For more information about the Founding Father’s views on the positive impact of the Bible in schools, go to wallbuilders.com.

Biographical Sketches

Hi, friends, this is Tim Barton of WallBuilders. This is a time when most Americans don’t know much about American history or even heroes of the faith. And I know oftentimes we, parents, we’re trying to find good content for our kids to read. And if you remember back to the Bible, to the book of Hebrews, it has the faith Hall of Fame where they outline the leaders of faith that had gone before them. Well, this is something that as Americans, we really want to go back and outline some of these heroes, not just of American history, but heroes of Christianity in our faith as well.

I want to let you know about some biographical sketches we have available on our website. One is called The Courageous Leaders collection. And this collection includes people like Abigail Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Francis Scott Key, George Washington Carver, Susanna Wesley, even the Wright brothers. And there’s a second collection called Heroes of History.

In this collection, you’ll read about people like Benjamin Franklin or Christopher Columbus, Daniel Boone, George Washington, Harriet Tubman; friends, the list goes on and on. This is a great collection for your young person to have and read and it’s a providential view of American and Christian history. This is available at www.wallbuilders.com. That’s www.wallbuilders.com.

Rick:

Welcome back to WallBuilders Live. Thanks for staying with us. Great to have Kimberly Fletcher back with us from Moms for America. If you’re not following them or joining them, you should be Moms for America.us. Hey Kimberly, thanks for coming back on.

Kimberly:

Thank you. It’s so good to be with you, Rick. This is one of my favorite places to hang.

An Incredible Tool

Rick:

Well, we love teaming up with you. Thanks for promoting our Biblical Citizenship and getting your mom’s in there and getting them to host. I love your cottage meetings. Just so many things we’re doing, just a parallel course and love that God brought us together and got to see a couple of weeks ago in Texas and saw your voter guide which is outstanding.

You all went in and ranked every member of Congress. This is incredible and a fantastic tool for people to get a hold of. So tell us about the Voters guide and how folks can get them and spread them in their communities as well.

Kimberly:

Absolutely. So we put it up on Moms for America Action. It was information and education, which we can do on the C3, but we wanted to be able to make sure that we were protected. So it’s Moms for America Action is the website, Mfaaction.com. You can download the report card right there. And as you said, we graded all 535 members of Congress. Some of them had left Congress early to serve in the administration, some had been newly elected, so that’s why they have an eye beside their name. It’s not because they’re not important. It’s because we didn’t have any votes to grade them on.

So everybody else got A, B, C, D or F, and we didn’t give any grade; they earned the grades, and it was principle based. So there are no we didn’t do it based on what political party they were with. We did it based on the votes that they made and aligned with the principles and values that America stands for. So we did everything from school choice to the border to protecting ourselves, because right now there are a lot of issues that moms weren’t really paying attention to that they are now.

Economy was something, you start throwing numbers at moms and they’re just like what does that have to do with me? Well, now they have to decide between a gallon of gas and a gallon of milk. So they’re realizing, oh, wait, that’s the economy, I care about that. We graded on all of those issues. And some Republicans got an F.

A Critical Tool

Rick:

And well deserved, I would imagine. Yeah. I mean, people can’t just count on party. You have to pay attention. You got to look close. And this report card really helps them to do that and so easy to use. I just did a couple of clicks just now, pulled it up on my browser.

You can go in and actually look at the questions that they’re asking, the issues that are being covered. You can download the report card and share it with folks. You can share the online version of it as well.

These are the kind of tools, Kimberly, we need because, listen, I go into the polling place and I see names and races, and I’m like, I don’t know who any of these people are. So being able to have this report card and take it in with you and share it is a critical tool. And so thankful this took a lot of research for you all to put this together, and I really appreciate you all doing it.

Kimberly:

It did take a lot of research, but it was worth it. But the issue now is we have all of these state legislators and statewide candidates who are contacting us asking to be graded. And I’m like, well, we can’t grade you on the bills the Congress passed. So we’re looking at definitely want to do that in the future.

We can grade Congress every year. We can grade the legislators. But during election years, this is really vital. So we definitely want to add legislators and statewide candidates in the future.

MFAAction.com

Rick:

That will be phenomenal. And I know you’ve got because you have members in every state and out there, it’s going to be a great team to put on that. But it takes money to do these things. It’s difficult to do. It takes a team to do it.

So if somebody wants to help to create those voter guides or donate to those voter guides being done, does that need to be Moms for America Action donation, or do they go to Mfaaction.com and then is there a place there to do that? What would you recommend?

Kimberly:

They can go to either one if you don’t care about getting a tax write off. We encourage people to donate to Moms for America Action because Moms for America Action can donate to the C3 if we need to. The C3 can’t support the C4. But if you want to get a tax write off, we can still do a good portion of this. At momsforamerica.us is our C3. So you can do either place.

Rick:

Alright. And by the way, I am there right now looking at mfaaction.com; and right there in the top right hand corner donate today. Alright. I’m not going to ask our listeners to do anything I’m not willing to do. So I’m going on there right now making my contribution. Not only will it help to get the state ones later on, but it helps to distribute this congressional one and make it possible to get this in more hands for more informed voters.

It’s not enough to just tell people to go vote, they got to be able to vote informed. And boy, those politicians are great at making things sound good and making it sound like they did something they didn’t do. A voter guy doesn’t lie. It actually says what they actually did instead of what they say they’re going to do.

Looking At Their Actions

Kimberly, I love the fact and it just speaks to the action that you guys have been taking and the numbers that you have, the fact that you’re getting calls and people are asking you to measure them and do a report on them. Most of the time, politicians don’t want anybody looking into how they’re voting. So, first of all, those are good people that are calling you to do that. But it says a lot about what you’re doing at Moms for America and why it’s so critical. That had to feel good to get those phone calls, I would think.

Kimberly:

It did. We got another phone call that was kind of exciting too. They have the press secretaries in Washington, DC. they switch on a dime, and so we got the most updated list, they put it out weekly. But within that week, one of the press secretaries had changed over. So when we sent out the report card letting them know that they got an A grade, they didn’t get it, the right person didn’t get it.

And so we were heading home, we had gone to Washington, DC. we did a press conference with our A-listers. We had pictures with them. It was pretty cool. So they were then taking these report cards, handling them in their hands, and showing them to everybody in the halls of Congress.

And we got a phone call from one of the chief of staff, from one of these congressmen who said, hey, they got these report cards all over Congress. I’m pretty sure my representative would have got an A. And why didn’t we get one? So we sent one to them, and he did, in fact, get an A. So that was great.

Powerful Influence

Rick:

And now he wants you to Photoshop a picture in with him, probably, or her, so now you got to figure out a way to get a picture with them?

Kimberly:

Well, that’s another funny thing. So we have state liaisons in all the different states, and so some of the members of Congress weren’t able to come and meet the photo shoot when we were doing the pictures. And we had this big card that said, I got an A from Moms for America, that looks pretty cool.

When they weren’t able to make it, when they got home and they would see Moms from America t-shirts at different places, they’re like, hey, can I get a picture with you because I got an A and I wasn’t able to go to the photo shoot? I mean, the buzz about this is pretty exciting.

Maybe they didn’t pay attention to moms before, but now they’re realizing just how powerful our influence is, and they all want to get a picture beside us. It’s pretty cool.

A Great Plan

Rick:

I love it. This is good on so many fronts because, number one, the fact that we have so many moms getting involved. And dads, you can always say that about Moms for America, but like you say, this is moms and Dads involved, absolutely. But then the fact that the political class is paying attention and saying, hey, these folks are wielding some power because they’ve got influence in the community, that’s so important to be able to get the agenda moving forward.

So it just means this is really, really working. And it’s a good sign for the health of America that you all are this involved, that the organization is having as much influence. Not only that, they’re studying, I love the fact that they’re taking our courses and all the other courses that you guys have, but that the political class is paying attention and wants your support.

So, this is boy, very exciting times. Kimberly, you all keep up the great work. Let us know how we can help the WallBuilders and Patriot Academy, and let’s get more folks involved in Moms for America.

Kimberly:

I think that’s a great plan. And I love partnering with you guys. We’ve already had lots of feedback from moms saying they love your series: the Biblical citizenship program is amazing, and they’re loving it. So this is a great partnership.

Rick:

Thank you. You too. Stay with us, folks, we’ll be right back with David and Tim Barton.

THE AMERICAN STORY

Hey, guys, we want to let you know about a new resource we have here at WallBuilders called The American Story. For years, people have been asking us to do a history book, and we’ve finally done it. We start with Christopher Columbus and go roughly through Abraham Lincoln.

And one of the things that so often we hear today are about the imperfections of America or how so many people in America that used to be celebrated or honored really aren’t good or honorable people. One of the things we acknowledge quickly in the book is that the entire world is full of people who are sinful and need a savior because the Bible even tells us that all of sin and fallen short of the glory of God. And yet what we see through history and certainly is evident in America, is how a perfect God uses imperfect people and does great things through them.

The story of America is not the story of perfect people, but you see time and time again how God got involved in the process and used these imperfect people to do great things that impacted the entire world from America. To find out more, go to wallbuilders.com and check out the American story.

 Rick:

We’re back here on WallBuilders Live. Thanks for staying with us. Thanks to Kimberly Fletcher and all the Moms for America and Dads for America that are out there and a part of that organization. And we’ll have links at wallbulderslive.com today so you can get a copy of the voter guide to share in your community as well.

Back with David and Tim. And guys, I just love seeing more and more organizations get this active, not just educate or not just rile people up, but give them the tools they need to make a real difference in the elections coming up.

Getting Involved

Tim:

Yeah, Rick, it’s great to see groups getting involved and doing these voter guides. And of course, it’s always fun, as you all pointed out, you know, you’re making a difference when you actually have congressional leaders and members who are saying, hey, can you include me? Can you have my picture? You know, you’re doing something significant.

And ultimately, what we know is there’s people that are beginning to fill the void of what has been missing on some level and maybe just helping people make connections where there have been groups out there doing voter guide. I voter guide has been out there for a while and actually at the WallBuilders website, we have links to voters guides and resources for people in various states.

And so if you are wondering for where you can find additional resources, go to the WallBuilders website. We have a lot of additional resources related to voting and links to different voters guides with things that we think can give you an accurate estimation of the positions that different individuals who are running for office, who are going to be on your ballot, where they stand, that you can make a more informed and educated decision.

But in the midst of this, what we know is great is that people are wanting to get involved, they’re wanting to get informed and this is something guys we talked too, some of the battles with some of the questions surrounding the last major election and the fraud involved in it. And there’s a lot of people who took the position well, why should we even vote? What difference does it make?

Isn’t it all rigged anyway? Isn’t there all these issues? We’ve always said is you have to take the John Quincy Adams approach where John Quincy Adams is he said his life motto was that “Duty of ours, results are God’s” and that we just have to be people that are going to do the right thing regardless.

Pure Propaganda

And if you’re going to do the right thing, these voter guides can be very helpful to know how to support the right things. Ultimately, that means who to support when you go to vote.

David:

Yes. And what’s really cool in this, too, is not only they give you information. I love the sarcasm they use. We often say around here that sarcasm is our love language, and so we tend to be sarcastic at times, just kind of making fun of stuff. But what they did, for example, on the Senate side, they went through and took 10 Senate votes and they renamed the bills for what they really were.

If you remember the Roads and Bridges Act, well, they call that the Everything but Roads and Bridges Act because only three to 7% of that money actually went to roads and bridges. And then we had the vote here a few weeks ago about the Reducing Inflation Act, they call it the Crippling Inflation Act. So they have put a name on here that’s really consistent with what we believe that bill actually did.

But just give you an indication of the type of things they cover and this is the title they’ve given them so you know exactly what it deals with. The official title in the Senate is usually just pure propaganda to have their media folks talk about how we’re trying to reduce inflation. No, you’re not. Not when you’re spending more and you’re raising debt limits, etc.

But nonetheless one bill is the Pro-death for Babies Act, one is called the No Mandatory Vaccines Amendment, the Letter Agencies on Lease Acts that’s all the different alphabet agencies empowering them. The not really Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, Ukraine Economy more important than the US Economy Act, the Crippling Inflation Act, the Everything But Roads and Bridges Act, the Border Security for all but the US Act, Combating Critical Race Theory of Public Schools and Stealing Elections Forever Act.

A Good Worldview Indication

Rick:

This is the first time anybody from our side has done a better job of naming legislation than the Left. The Left is great at it. This is better than I’ve ever seen. I love it.

David:

I loved it. When I read this and go, yeah, this is really good. This really tells you what it’s about. And then there’s a sarcastic tone that says, those guys, they’re making up stuff. But here’s what it really is. So it really is a good voter guide. It’s got a lot of good information. And again, this doesn’t tell you what the challenger is like. This tells you what the incumbent is like.

So if you’re in one of those 35 states that’s having a US Senate race and you’re getting inundated with tens of millions of dollars of ads, picking on one guy, picking on the other, and trying to make one look bad and one looks really good, go here and see if they really are as bad or as good as they are. This is a really good worldview indication.

You’ve got life here. You’ve got economics. You got regulations. You got all sorts of freedom things. This is a really good set of ten selected votes that really do give you a good worldview. So this is a great place to go to get information if you’re in one of those 35 states.

But any America is in a Congressional race. We have 435 congressional races. They also give you information on all 435 Congressional incumbents, so you can see if your incumbent really needs to be removed or not. Don’t be talked into getting rid of someone who’s really good just because the ads make them look really bad.

If you’ve got a voting record, Jesus says you judge a tree by its fruits. It doesn’t matter what label you might put on a tree. You look at the fruit it produces, and if these incumbents are producing good fruits, then they don’t need to be removed. Leave them there. They’re part of the process and doing the right thing.

Ivoterguide.com

Now, if their ads make them look really good, and you look at the voting record and you go, oh, my gosh, I don’t agree with anything there, or one out of ten, they need to go. We need people in there who will defend liberty, who will defend inalienable rights, who will defend the Constitution.

And this is an excellent, excellent, excellent voting guide for that. It’s not going to tell you what the other side is doing. It will tell you what the incumbent needs to be retained.

Rick:

You know, David, everything you just said, man, we need discernment, we need to use wisdom, we need to do a little bit of homework. And I would just encourage everybody out there, don’t be afraid to use a voter guide and think, oh, I should already know this stuff, that’s like a cheat sheet. No, I use it. I mean, we’re as involved as anybody out there.

And I use voter guides. I go to Ivoterguide.com, I look at all those different races. I work with local groups in my county.

I’m in school board races. It’s hard to know, especially in some of these elections when there’s 10, 15, 20 races on the ballot and you don’t know who all those people are. Those voter guides are so helpful to make a wise, discerning decision. And that’s part of being a good biblical citizen. We’ve got to make good decisions for who these folks are that we’re electing.

Well, folks, we are out of time for today. We’re sure glad you are here with us on WallBuilders Live. As we’re signing off for the day, I want to encourage you to take some action. We talk about these things on the program. We talk about sometimes very esoteric ideas or philosophical ideas of what makes a nation great, what makes the community great.

But all of those ideas actually come down to practical steps that we can each take in our lives to make a difference in other people’s lives and in our country and in the future, and restoring liberty and making sure that it’s preserved for future generations.

Scorecards And Voter Guides – With Kimberly Fletcher Of Moms For America

First action step I’m going to ask you to take today is to start reading through the Bible every year, it make sure we get all the way through every year. And there’s so much there that you’ll learn every time. For me, it’s like, wow, I didn’t even remember that was there. Or just the way God does it, He just works it out so that the passage for the day is applicable to whatever’s happening that day in my life or in the culture or things we’re talking about. So please consider doing that. The Founders ‘Bible, I think, is the way to do it.

I’m actually going through it this year kind of with other people by posting every day on social media, whatever the reading was for that day. It’s about six pages a day in the Founder’s Bible to get through the whole thing in one year. And it’s so neat. It’s just incredible reading God’s Word, at the same time you’re reading these articles about how the Founders read that part of God’s Word and then applied it to the founding of the country or whatever was happening for them at that time. So it’s a great way to study. I encourage you to do that.

Number one, read through the Bible this year. And then number two, host a biblical citizenship class. Actually, get people together talking about those faith foundations and how we can restore those things and how we can be force multipliers, how we can actually take our one vote and get other people to vote as well, get other people engaged in the process.

So when you host a Biblical Citizenship class, you’ll be raising the banner, and I promise you people will rally around that banner. They’re looking for someone like you to be the catalyst in your community for restoring biblical values and constitutional principles.

You can sign up for free. We don’t charge anyone to become a coach and host a class. We give away the digital workbook to anyone that signs up for your class. So it’s completely free for you to do that. Go to Biblicalcitizens.com, that’s Biblicalcitizens.com. Get your class started today. Thanks for listening. You’ve been listening to WallBuilders Live.
