Welcome to the intersection of faith and the culture.  This is WallBuilders Live! Where we”€™re talking about today”€™s hottest topics on policy, faith, and the culture, all of it from a Biblical, historical, and Constitutional perspective.

We’re here with David Barton, America’s premier historian and the founder of WallBuilders. Also, Tim Barton, national speaker, pastor, and president of WallBuilders. And my name is Rick Green, I’m a former Texas state legislator, national speaker, and author.

Today is Friday. Which means we call it Good News Friday around here at WallBuilders Live. And the chance for David and Tim to share some good news stories from across the nation.

Some of which you might have heard of. But my guess is most of which you have not heard of and I haven’t heard. Because major media doesn’t cover them for sure.

And thankfully, David and Tim go find these stories and share them with all of us. Because it’s encouraging. It’s good to know the system works if we work the system. It’s good to know God’s still moving in our culture. Hasn’t given up on us.

Americans Commit Three Felonies A Day

David:

Well, I’m going to deal with some of the stuff going on with the special investigator around the president. That has gone on for months and months now. And let me tell you I don’t like what’s going on with the special investigator.

Because when you have an open ended mandate if you will. To investigate whatever you want to investigate you will find something. And I don’t say that lightly. I don’t dismiss the fact that there may be some bad stuff going on that we don’t know about.

I say that due to the fact that there’s books out there like Three Felonies A Day. It points out that we have so many laws on the book in America. That right now the average citizen of the United States commits three felonies a day.

It’s not that we view them as criminals or bad people. It’s just that we have so many laws on the books. That we don’t even know about criminalizing actions that most of us would laugh about. And say you’re kidding, that’s a crime? I didn’t know that.

But on average every American citizen commits three felonies a day. So if a prosecutor were going after us. Nearly any of us can end up in jail.

Tim:

I would be super curious to know what three felonies I’m committing on average a day. It would be interesting to look at our normal lifestyle. And go OK, I’m just living a normal life. I’m not doing anything out of the ordinary. Out of the exception.

So what are things that they would point to and say that’s a felony? This is where we would probably be shocked right into the idea. That if somebody is out to get you. The Department of Justice, a police force is out to get you, they can find something that you’ve done wrong.

That most of us would think, “How was that even a crime?  Or our intent was never to do anything wrong.” But it really would be very interesting to me to have somebody go along and say OK that’s a felony.

And I go how? I’m just so curious now. What are the three felonies I’m allegedly committing every day?

David:

And that is the deal. Because most people are absolutely mystified by what turns out to be felonies. Now fortunately, the law is not enforced on those kind of things. Otherwise we would all be in jail.

But what you have is. Let’s say that I want to take Tim out. And I have unlimited money. I can hire as many prosecutors as I want to go after you. How do you defend yourself?

Tim:

Now it sounded a lot more fun when you say I want to take Tim out. And I have unlimited money. I was thinking of the options of things you go do.

I was thinking hunting trip New Zealand and some great ideas. Then say hey wait a second. You just turned that narrative around real fast.

No, but you’re right. If you had unlimited resources. And you wanted to take me out so to speak. Take me down right? If you want to destroy me you could if you had unlimited resources already.

You have the money.  And and I am doing things that are illegal. Even though I don’t intend to. I may not know they’re illegal. There is no doubt I would be in a lot of trouble.

Not Enough Evidence

David:

So, you take that. And put an open ended search with the President of the United States. Now if we knew he had done something wrong. There was criminal stuff, you bet go after it.

Unlimited Funds To Prosecute

But, when we don’t even know and he doesn’t even know. And you don’t have a mandate limiting what you’re looking for. You have all of this unlimited prosecutorial power. That makes me really nervous.

And where’s the evidence?  You start indicting people and you found this guy over here. He didn’t know he did anything wrong. It wasn’t that he was trying to. He wasn’t trying to be criminal.

But, now you start indicting people. And people say oh where there’s smoke there’s fire.  Well, again every one of us average committing three felonies a day.

So, this is the kind of stuff that was going on in Europe at the time the settlers came to America. And it was the abuse of the judicial system.

So, let me back up to this. This whole investigation of Trump started over the Russia stuff. Where that he’s influencing an election. He’s affecting the election.

He’s doing stuff with the collusion with Russia. So while this special prosecution is going on. There’s also a lawsuit filed in federal court in Washington, D.C. going after Trump. This lawsuit has been there a while.

Federal Judge Throws Trump”€™s Case Out

It came in front of a Clinton appointed federal judge in Washington, D.C.  A senior judge in Washington, D.C. And senior judge looked at all the evidence and threw the case out. Saying there is a distinct lack of evidence with these charges.

Now, I find it interesting that in a court of law. Where you have to come up with actual evidence. You have a Clinton appointed judge who says there’s not enough evidence for this lawsuit to even go forward. Yet we’ve still got the special prosecutor going.

So, I just point that out to say it’s such a different narrative. From what we get from the national news. But that’s a case I think is very significant.

The fact that a Democrat appointed federal judge. Threw out this suit against Trump for his collusion with Russia. And interfering with the elections and affecting the election. It’s gone. But the other prosecution still goes on.

So I think it’s good news from the standpoint. That by all appearances there’s really nothing there except a witch hunt going on. Now if they come back with something that is a genuine mens rea felony that had evil intent. We’ll talk about it.

But the good news is that here you have a judge. That has looked at the evidence. Is not swayed by the political narrative. Not swayed by what the media is claiming, the opponents claim. The judge has looked at the evidence and said there’s nothing here. I’m dismissing this.

Moment From American History

This is Tim Barton from WallBuilders with another moment from American history. American Patriot Paul Revere road to alert Americans of the impending arrival of the British. But he also sought patriot leader Samuel Adams and John Hancock to warn them that the British were seeking their execution.

Adams and Hancock were staying with the Reverend Jonas Clark in Lexington. When they asked Pastor Clark if his church was ready for the approaching British he replied, “€œI’ve trained them for this very hour. They will fight and, if need be, die under the shadow of the house of God.”€

Later that morning 70 men from his church, and several hundred British in the first battle of the War for Independence. As Pastor Clark affirmed, “€œThe militia that morning were the same who filled the pews of the church meeting house on the Sunday morning before.”€

Geneva College Not Penalized

Rick:

Welcome back. Thanks for staying with us here on WallBuilders Live!  It’s good news Friday today. And Tim Barton has our next piece of good news, Tim.

Tim:

Yeah guys, this is a case that came out of. I guess it’s a federal district court it looks like in Pennsylvania. It actually was one of our friends over at Alliance Defending Freedom. They”€™re the firm that represented Geneva College.

Geneva College is a Christian College, a Christian university. And they were one of the many universities that was dealing with the Obama HHS mandate.

And part of the mandate was that they had to provide abortifacients. Abortion inducing drugs, sterilization. Just different kinds of things that violated their religious belief.

But under Obamacare you are required as a health care provider for your employees to provide things. Even if it goes against your belief system.  Well, the really good news in this ADF got involved.

And we already saw some of these cases won. Whether it be Hobby Lobby or Little Sisters of the Poor. As we’ve already seen some positive trend.  We saw under the Trump administration.

He said look we’re not going to penalize people for this. We’re not going to require them to do this. And so there’s already been a little bit of a cease and desist with the Department of Health and Human Services. And probably having different leadership over that department makes a difference too.

Do Not Have To Issue Abortifacients

But this federal district court issued an order. On the order it says that what happened to this school violated the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

And so this school was not going to be required to provide those abortifacients. The abortion inducing drugs and sterilization.  Things that would violate their religious belief system. Because they are allowed to maintain religious beliefs as a university.

Even though they are providing health care. They don’t have to provide health care. At least specific services that are labeled health care that would violate their religious beliefs.

So it is really good that in this situation. We see yet again where there is a Christian organization able to maintain their Christian beliefs. In spite of what Obamacare and these abortifacients, abortion inducing drugs. Were required to be a part of it.

They get this exemption. I mean really every American should be able to choose the health care they want. The system they want. Standard they want.

But at least in this situation. Geneva College is not having to pay those things. Or pay a penalty for not doing those things. So good news coming out of the federal district court in Pennsylvania.

Moment From American History

This is Tim Barton from WallBuilders with another moment from American history. Founding Fathers John Adams and Thomas Jefferson originally worked closely together but later became ardent opponents.

This troubled Dr. Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration, who knew both of them very well. In the Bible, 2 Corinthians 5:18 tells us that God has given each of us the ministry of reconciliation. Dr. Rush believed this and set out to bring the two back together.

It took a while, but Adams and Jefferson once again became close friends. Looking back on his role in helping bring about this reconciliation Dr. Rush stated, “€œIt will give me pleasure as long as I live to reflect that. I have been in any degree instrumental in effecting this reunion of two souls destined to be dear to each other and motivated with the same dispositions to serve their country, though in different ways.”€

Stop Soros Law

David:

This deals with actually some, if you will, some boundaries that are being put around some things George Soros is trying to do. I’m a believer that much of what much of what George Soros is trying to do is bad for countries, it’s bad for Constitution, it’s bad for limited government. It’s bad for religious morals, traditional families, etc.

So, most of the things that secular progressives would be for, is what he funds. Most of what secular progressives are for would be things that I think is bad for our country. I think most conservatives would agree with that.

Soros, with all the billions, he has, has not only been trying to influence things here.  By the way, he is funding groups now that are putting literally millions of dollars into trying to keep the new Supreme Court nominee, Brett Cavanaugh, from being confirmed.

So, he’s putting money into trying to stop constitutional conservatives from getting on the courts. He’s an open borders guy. Open immigration guy. Sanctuary city guy. Again, the stuff that violates the rule of law, limited government, constitutional government, moral and religious values, he’s on the other side.

Muslim Activist Syrian Refugees

He’s also doing that in Europe. And in Europe where they had all these folks fleeing Syria particularly in 2015. All the refugees coming out of there. Many of the refugees were very hardcore Muslim activists. Not just refugees. But they”€™re just trying to make sure they don’t get killed. It’s not like they want a change of lifestyle or anything else. I mean they’re part of the problem. Just that they were on the wrong side whether it be ISIS or the Syrians.

So, what Europe experienced was a lot of terror attacks coming from these Muslims. Nations started seeing that. Nations like Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, and other nations started saying, “Wait a minute. We’re not going to just take any immigrant that comes in from Syria. Any Muslim immigrant. We’re going to check in and we’re going to the extreme vetting,” as Trump called it. And so in those countries particularly.

Where you look at countries like Poland. They will not take these extreme islamist. They’re not having terror attacks. In other nations that have open borders and open immigration. Whether it be from England, Germany, France or elsewhere. They’re getting the terrorist attacks.

Hungary Is Pushing Back on Soros

So, in Hungary, they have a very conservative government there. They have been pushing back against Soros. Because Soros has dedicated billions of dollars to making Europe open immigration.

A lot of these nations who feel like no we don’t even like the EU. We think we’re a sovereign nation. We’re not part of a UN global council here. They’re fighting for their own sovereignty. Control over their own borders.

And so Hungary recently passed what’s called the Stop Soros Law. It”€™s specifically named after him. He’s the one exerting so much influence in trying to change the way that immigration happens in these more conservative nations.

One of the things that’s happening there. For folks who don’t know. Is across Europe if you come to Europe as an immigrant, they say you have a right to a salary.

So just walking in as an immigrant. You start making money from the time that you arrive in these EU nations. Now some nations pay better than other nations.

EU Paying Immigrants to do Nothing

Which is why Germany has more immigrants coming in than other nations.  Because they pay well. And Germany is now starting to say wait a minute. That may not be a good policy. We’re paying immigrants for doing nothing.

And so much do we pay them that they’re just flooding here. That creates all sorts of problems with the infrastructure and tax, etc. Then citizens are pushing back saying why are we paying people who are doing nothing. But that’s a common policy with the EU.

So Soros is pushing that. And Hungary is stepping up and pushing back. I’ll point out that the nations that are pushing back against Soros are some of our biggest American allies.

Conservative European Nations Pushing Back on Soros

They’re the ones that really like America. They really support America. They’re part of NATO. And you got Poland now that has military bases in Poland. Germany is wanting military bases of America out of Germany.

Poland saying man we love Americans. We want America. Bring the stuff on. And you’re seeing that with the conservative nations.

So there’s a realigning going on in Europe. And it really is in a conservative constitutionally limited direction. I don’t mean the American Constitution. I mean limited government.

Hungary’s got its own constitution. Same with Poland. But those constitutions do reflect many American values and American beliefs.

And so that’s a good deal that you’re starting to see people in Europe stand up and move in a much more limited government constitutional, pro-traditional value direction.

Matter of fact, I’ll point out that in Poland they recently had elections over the last couple of years. Where the people in Poland say we don’t want abortion. And so Poland is a pro-life nation by the vote of the people.

Sabbath Day

The people in Poland earlier this year said, “€œWe think that there should be a Sabbath. God said you work six days and take a Sabbath. They voted to institute a Sabbath in Poland.”€

And it’s not a theocracy in any way shape, fashion, or form. I mean in America our Constitution requires the Sundays excepted clause. That we don’t do federal government work on Sunday. We take the day off. It’s a Sabbath.

So you’re seeing a real resurgence of that kind of belief in Europe. Which is really healthy.

But the Stop Soros Law recently passed by Hungary. Is another indication that we’re getting a lot of movement in the right direction. From those nations that have aligned themselves with America and American allies.

Good News Around the World

Rick:

We often say good news Friday, good news all across the country. But here we are around the world. Good news as well.  And David, just one point I’d love to emphasize there.

When you talk about constitutional limited government. I mean even though obviously their constitution is different. Like you said that’s still the right direction. That’s the concept that we love and appreciate.

We don’t talk about it much but it means jurisdictions. We talk about it here a lot. But in America we don’t talk about it much.

So that is great news from around the world. And thankfully the socialist agenda and push of a guy like Soros is being pushed back against. And we”€™d like to see more of that here in our own country as well.

Amazon Takes Anti-Christian Stance

Tim:

All right guys this is one that it’s currently good news. There are some pending information on it. But we can only see that some of the negative action has been retracted.

Amazon is a place that probably most of us do some shopping on Amazon Prime. Getting it in two days. A lot of benefits. We really enjoy being able to shop online. And find much what we want.  

Well, some of the things that I’m not as aware of. But apparently being a reviewer on Amazon. If you are a top reviewer apparently, there’s some kind of level of benefit in doing that. I don’t even know what that is.

But there was a guy who was one of their top 500 reviewers. And I’m not even sure how you get top 500. Maybe you offer reviews and enough people said wow that was really helpful. Great review. That’s what I’m guessing.

But one of the problems was for the man who was one of the top reviewers. He actually reviewed a book about the Bible. And he gave it a really positive review. Says this is a really good book. Gave some reasons you need to read it.

Amazon came back and they said because of this review. It’s a view that is unacceptable to Amazon. And our policy guidelines for reviewers. Therefore, this review will not post.

Amazon Prohibits Positive Review on the Bible

Oh, by the way. We’re removing your other reviews and we’re bumping you out of one of the top 500 reviewers. Because he reviewed a book on the Bible. Which just seems astounding that”€™s what happened now.

There was a little bit of an uproar when this happened. And there were some pushback. So Amazon then came back just maybe a day or two later. Said well, actually we will let that last review go up.

What’s pending as of this article. And I haven’t done a follow up to see if it’s changed in the last couple days or after this happened.

But as of this article. He was not yet reinstated to one of the top 500 reviewers. Didn’t know if he would get back to that position. If they would reinstate that to him.

What’s interesting about this. Amazon has been a company that has actually used the Southern Poverty Law Center. To help them know companies that couldn’t be part of Amazon Smile. And couldn’t get benefits.

And so Amazon hasn’t had the best track record in this. So this story certainly is not completely resolved. Hopefully, there will be further good news that everything is restored for this guy. And he’s not going to suffer a penalty because of it.

But at least at this point there was enough pushback. Amazon said, “€œOh yeah.  Well. your review will go back up over this book of the Bible that’s our bad.”€ So it is at least good news.

Because it’s a step in the right direction. That there’s that penalty incurred because of reviewing a Bible or a book about the Bible. At least that was returned. So again it is not total good news yet. There’s some pending situations with it.

Courts Side With Christian Universities

One more piece of good news. I mentioned actually in an earlier segment on this show. About a school, Geneva College in Pennsylvania. That actually had a court do an order saying they didn’t have to follow the HHS mandate.

This is yet another one of those cases. Which is a little further down in my stack. This is a case doing the Ave Maria School of Law. It’s a law school in Florida Ave Maria Catholic School.

And so their position on abortion or on some of these issues is fairly clear for the religious nature of their school. Alliance Defending Freedom was the law firm again on this same issue. They got involved with this school and this situation. It was yet again in a court.

They got involved. And said, “€œYeah you can’t require this school to do this.”€ Again citing the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Right of Religious Conscience

That people have a right to their religious conscience. They have a right to their religious beliefs. They cannot be forced to violate their conscience. Forced to violate their religion.

Especially this issue of abortion. Providing abortifacients, providing contraceptives. Things that go against their religious convictions and beliefs.

And so a court got involved. Said yeah, we can’t. You can’t require them to do that.

So we are seeing a lot of actually positive traction with Christian universities. Get a lot of these court orders. A lot of these injunctions. Where they’re not required to do things that violate their conscience.

There really is some good news on the religious liberty front. Especially with the HHS the Obamacare mandate. And especially with the issue of abortion.

Now it’s still a problem in some areas. Obviously, there’s a lot of work that still needs to be done. To correct a lot of these existing problems.

But at least for these universities that are faith based universities. That have religious convictions. Believe abortion is wrong. At least for them. They’re not being required to provide abortifacients in their health care.

So that is very good news.

Rick:

Every time this happens it’s good news. Like you said. I mean there’s still obviously areas to work in to win.

But every time when we see a victory like this. That encourages us to continue the fight. And encourages others to stand up and have courage.
