Alright, David, Tim, it is Good News Friday. I’m looking forward to the good news I know you guys are going to be sharing throughout the week– throughout the week, throughout the day. But I guess we could do good news all week, but let’s definitely do some good news today. Tim, I believe you’re going to start us because you’re actually on the road. You’re out there at a college teaching right now and thank you for taking time out to call in and still share some good news with us.
Tim:
Well, absolutely. I’m always happy to be on. And, obviously, with Good News Friday being one of the favorite days talking about good things happening around the nation. And I’ve got a really fun article. For those who were paying attention, there’s been a lot of talk about some marches in Washington D.C. over the last couple weeks.
There was the pro-life march and there was the Women’s March. It was so cool about this one, I”ve several articles here in my stack, it talks about President Trump addressing the March for Life. First president ever to do that. And when you look at the significance of what the March for Life is, obviously going back to 1973 Roe vs. Wade and when the U.S. Supreme Court essentially says that abortion on demand is the law of the land, it enforces it on America. That the right to life really kind of took some momentum and said, “We have to do something.”
President Trump – First President to Address the March for Life
Tim:
So, from that moment they’ve been fighting to do things. And no president has ever come out and publicly addressed this March for Life until President Donald Trump from the White House has this is a live video stream essentially. He comes and talks to them. Just really cool that in the midst of all the things we’ve talked about last year that the president Trump accomplished. And certainly going back a year or two to where everybody’s really rightfully nervous about his seemingly lack of morality, right, his moral underpinnings, we”re not sure are there.
To see where he is now, and see him standing for life, supporting this March for Life, this is just really amazing that a president is doing this. But it seems even more impressive to me that it’s President Trump which we just never thought this would happen. But yet a president helping bring some attention to this March for Life which is a really cool deal.
Rick:
And this is, Tim, I guess this is probably the biggest pro-life event, would you say, of the year throughout the nation?
Tim:
It certainly is, yeah, with this march that”s going on. One of the things that’s kind of funny when you look at the political spin that certainly a lot of the mainstream media tries to put on it. They want to report that the Women’s March which happened shortly after that and the Women’s Marches they’re actually marching in large crowds for abortion. Although there were several media outlets conservative that sent reporters and would ask the women, “Hey, why are you marching? What are you doing? What’s this about?”
And the women marching in the Women’s March, they really didn’t know. Some of them said reproductive rights. Some of them said, “Well, we’re just here supporting women because we’re women. And that’s what women do.” So, you have this opposite spectrum.
However, the media saying, “Oh my goodness, the Women’s March, there were so many women there and it was so impressive.”
The March for Life Dwarfs the Women”s March
Tim:
Well, the March for Life dwarfs the Women’s March, but the media really didn’t want to talk about the march for life. Because they’re not really pro life and they don’t want to support this movement or the fact that the president came and he’s addressing this group, first president ever to do that. So, this really is a big event. It’s certainly the biggest one throughout the year. But it’s also one of the biggest events that happens in Washington D.C. certainly with a march and a rally that would happen any time throughout the year.
And so it does seem silly the media doesn’t give it any attention and they want to instead go give some news and seeming credibility to this Women’s March. This really anti life marche that takes place.
But it is very much the largest rally happening in D.C., the largest rally happening for a life. And so overall, it is a very good deal for the issue of life.
Rick:
And you like you mentioned, Tim, this is the first president to do this. This used to be– and, David, for years most politicians ran from this sort of thing because they didn’t want to pick the right side or pick any side in a very controversial issue. President Trump has no problem saying, “This is the right thing to do.” And we saw his response in the third debate in the election on partial birth abortion. It was the first kind of hint that we had his gut instincts are going to be good on this issue.
So for him to show up at this really does kind of put a stamp of, “Hey, I’m going to take a stand on life and continue to defend it whether it’s popular or not no matter what the media wants.”
National Sanctity of Life Day
David:
Well, you know one of the things he could have done and I had a lot of friends who were, “I don’t trust Trump. He was pro abortion for so many years. I’m not sure he’s really pro-life.” And, “Oh, he says that, but he probably didn’t fully understand the issue.” So you’re seeing him do things and he could have done what some previous presidents have done.
And that’s just tape a message for the March for Life. No, he addressed them live. Tim pointed out that the media was talking about the Women’s March. Fortunately, MSNBC and CNN and ABC did report that the president, after the National March for Life, declared the next day as a National Sanctity of Life Day. And you did hear about that national proclamation all over the news, right?
Rick:
Right. No, this is the first time I heard about it actually.
David:
Yeah, see that’s the kind of stuff that’s happening that is not getting the coverage. And this is on the life issue and he didn’t have to do that. Just by addressing the March for Life, he was off the hook. He didn’t have to do anything more.
Have You Noticed What”s Happening With the ACLU?
David:
And by the way, have you noticed what’s happening with the ACLU and under age illegal immigrants getting abortions? Have you seen what’s happening with the Trump administration and the ACLU?
Rick:
No.
David:
Alright, what’s happened with under-age illegal immigrants that are here, undocumented workers, whatever your preference and how you want to describe that entity, that group of girls. There are those who are here, they are minors, and they– an abortion. And so the federal government, Trump said, “No, no, no, we’re not paying for abortion for minors. We’re not doing that. We’re not doing it for illegal immigrants and we’re not doing this.”
And so the ACLU sued and I think the first case was an illegal immigrant girl out of Texas. An ACLU suit and the judge said, “No, you’ve got to provide the abortions.” Wait a minute, we don’t have to provide abortions with taxpayer funding. And we specifically don’t have to provide it for illegal immigrants. But the judge ordered it and so the attorney general of Texas and others stepped up and fought that and they got a stay.
Well, they had the court in the middle of a decision and in the middle of that decision, trying while they were appealing it, the ACLU went ahead and got the girl the abortion. So, it became a moot issue. Well, twice more since then as illegal, young illegal minors, have been pregnant, the Trump administration has said, “No, we’re not going to do an abortion.” And the ACLU said, “Yes, you will.” They’ve gone to court and judges have ordered the abortions take place.
The Trump Administration is Fighting this All the Way Through
David:
So, the Trump administration has been trying to stop these abortions. They are pro-life. They could have let this go and said, “The courts have said what they said. We”ve got to comply with the courts.” That”s not what they’re doing, they’re fighting this all the way through.
And most recently, the fourth girl comes along and ACLU says, “You’ve got to get her an abortion.” Trump says, “No, we’re not doing abortions. We’re not paying for abortions with taxpayer dollars.” And so the ACLU comes back with a judge’s order and lo and behold, Mr. Trump has found a sponsor for the young girl and has given her over to the sponsor.
So, guess what? She’s not under federal jurisdiction anymore and the courts don’t have anything to say about whether she can have taxpayer funded abortion because it”s now a private entity. So–
Rick:
That”s smart.
David:
Yeah, it was. And so look for this to continue to happen that as these young girls are pregnant and the ACLU”s trying to get them abortions, look for private sponsors that are pro-life to step up and say, “No, we’ll take the girl. We’re not going to take the life.” So, here’s another way where the president is doing above and beyond what anybody expected on the life issue and going to bat in ways he does not have to. And he’s drawing the lines, and he’s stepping across those lines himself, in ways that show a boldness on life that we have not seen probably in my lifetime.
Ronald Reagan was pro-life and George W. Bush is pro-life, but I haven’t seen them– I haven’t seen anyone push behind the scenes to the level we have here. And even George W. Bush did not live address the March for Life audience. So this is really good stuff we’ve got.
The Team Around Him
Rick:
Yeah. And not only on Trump’s part, but the team around him. How big of a difference that is. Reagan had a lot of pro abortion folks around him, George W. some, kind of a split deal. It seems like there’s a whole lot more pro-life folks in the Trump administration specifically with Pence, but many others as well.
Quick break, guys. So we got two pieces of good news already on the life issue. We’re going take a quick break. When we come back, folks, we”ll find out where our Good News Friday takes us next. Stay with us. You’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

Rick:
Welcome back. Thanks for staying with us on this Good News Friday here on WallBuilders Live. Getting some good news from David and Tim Barton. Guys, what’s our next piece of good news?
Jumping Right in With Apple
Tim:
I want to jump in and go to Apple. And it’s a little challenging for me to say that as a PC guy. I appreciate my iPhone. However, Apple is one of now, it seems like, this huge conglomerate of companies coming out and saying because of President Trump tax cuts they’re going to give some things to their employees. In fact, this article, it says that twenty five hundred dollars of bonuses for all employees.
And the article identifies it actually in restricted stocks with, I guess, different aspects of the company. That’s going to the employees. But what”s interesting about this is they’re identifying how much money that they’re bringing back into the economy with the plans to bring back 245 billion in cash back into the U.S.. Because of the tax rate that this cut has essentially given them, they’re able to bring it in and save all kinds of money compared to what they would have done previously. And the reason that a lot of these companies keep money offshore is to avoid some of these ridiculous tax rates.
So, now they’re saying, “Wait a second, with this tax cut, we can move this money back in and still save a lot of money not having to pay this crazy tax rate.” And so instead of keeping all their money now offshore out of the U.S., they”re bringing a lot of this money back and they’re putting it back into the company, back into their employees.” So, Apple is just another one along the lines, which, one of the things that I actually read just in the last day or two is that at the end of last year when Americans were asked, “Hey, what do you think about the economy?” Meaning what President Trump has done with the economy, the vast majority of Americans say, “We really like the economy. It”s going really well.”
Well, especially with all these businesses saying, “Hey, with us not having to pay this exorbitant tax rate, let’s give some of that money back to our employees. Let”s put it back into the company. And so certainly we are seeing a lot of positives come from this tax cut and this is just another article identifying another company that is turning money back to the employees because they’re now saving it under this tax.
Tax Cuts Boosting Our Economy
David:
Now, hang on, time out. If this were really true, all the Democrats would have voted for that tax cut. But they clearly didn’t because this was all fake. It’s not going to give money back to the middle class, it”s not going to help the economy, it’s going to increase the deficit and the debt. Wait a minute, it has never worked that way before–
Tim:
No.
David:
Every time you give money back, it comes back to the pocket, it stimulates the economy. As a matter of fact, related to what Tim”s got, I’m sitting here looking at a story and it says, “Dow Jones closes above 23000 for the first–“ No wait, here’s an update, “Closes above 24000–“ Oh, got another update, “Closes above 25000 for–“ The Dow Jones is soaring through the roof.
Business is going bonkers and people are getting the result of that. When you have business go bonkers, you have more things that people are buying. Which brings more tax revenue in without having to coerce it away from them with income taxes. It’s counterintuitive unless you actually studied economics and history and then this is the way it”s supposed to work. And by the way, the Bible too – the Bible is was really good on tax issues.
So, here Trump does this and Tim mentions another company, Apple. Well, that’s the white collar guys. Apple is not your blue collar guys. So, let me let me pick up a story here. Headline, “Wal-Mart Joins Trump Bonus Employers”.
Raising Minimum Wage and Tons of Bonuses
David:
So, Wal-Mart, which is not your white collar store, has now raised the minimum wage to eleven dollars and they are giving bonuses to their workers as well. So, white collar, blue collar, this, across the board, this is producing economic income. The Dems said, “This doesn’t help the middle class.” Yeah it does. I’d say Wal-Mart is middle class for sure and here’s the boom that goes with that.
Rick:
Look at the airlines that have done the same thing. You had a lot of blue collar workers working for the airlines. Southwest Airlines, thousand dollar bonus, 55000 employees getting that one. Jet Blue, thousand dollar bonus, 21000 employees getting that one. Comcast, 1000 to 100000 employees, AT&T a 1000 to 200000 employees.
Guys, this is, I”m getting this out of the USA Today, not a conservative publication.
David:
No, they’re pro Trump. USA Today was in Trump’s pocket all the way through.
Rick:
Yeah, right.
David:
Right. Yeah.
Tim:
No.
Rick:
So, this is good. They have a whole list. I’m just scratching the surface. A lot of the banks have done the same thing. There are bonuses all over the place, airlines, retailers.
And, Tim, you nailed it. You put this money back in the pockets of the American people, they’re going to take it out of their pockets and go spend it in the marketplace which churns the economy. Supply side economics absolutely works every time that it”s tried.
Bringing Jobs Home
David:
Well, I’m going to add something else to that because we’re talking about going back in their pockets, but it’s also starting some pockets, if you will. Notice this one, here’s a headline, “Fiat Chrysler Moves it”s Manufacturing Plant on Automobiles” Chrysler automobiles, the RAM heavy duty pickup trucks, they’re moving out of Mexico back to Michigan. And it adds twenty five hundred new jobs and they’re investing one billion dollars in Michigan.
Rick:
Wow. Wow.
David:
So, you kind of lower the corporate tax rate and companies don’t leave the United States. As a matter of fact, they’d rather come back if you give them a chance. And when they come back, they bring jobs with them and those jobs bring income, and that income then produces tax revenues that go into the federal coffers.
Rick:
Yeah, I remember our friend, Bob McEwen, we were doing a, one of the Capitol tours that we do. And he was there with us and he was talking, we were actually there in the House chamber, and had a big group in there, and he was talking about some of the challenges we’re facing as nation. This has been two or three years ago. And you all have heard him say this too, I’m sure.
But he said, “There’s not a single problem we’re facing that you can’t correct with the right leadership. When you put the right leaders in place that understand these principles and they restore the principles that work–“ as we jokingly say, as McEwen says, “every–“ not jokingly, it really works, but, “only work every time they’re tried.” When he said that, I thought, it really is true.
With the Right Leadership, the Economy Does Great
Rick:
You look at nations, he gave Canada as an example of some of the things that had happened there over the last 20 years. When they had the right leadership, the economy went great. When they had the wrong leadership, and the wrong policies in, the economy goes down. This is just great to see the right leadership passing these kind of tax bills that are helping the economy. And now folks at home are getting to see the results.
David:
We even mentioned that when Tim and I were in Poland we were with government officials over there. And they were talking about how well Reaganomics has done over in Poland. What it”s done, it has doubled the GDP in the last 20 years. And we kind of said, “Reaganomics? Really? Don’t you know how unpopular that is?”
The media and economics professors here in America have so beat that up that everybody runs from trickle down. And they laughed and said, “No, no, no, this is exactly why Poland is prospering.” And, see, that”s those economic principles that the elites beat up and say, “Oh no, they won’t.” Like the Democrats saying, “No, giving this tax cut is not going to help the federal government.” Yeah, it is. Big time.
And it helps the people as well and it is the middle class. And so in Poland, they’ve got monster, and I’m talking monster, sized statues of Ronald Reagan all over Poland. It is like, man, here in America we are kind of ashamed to mention him out loud in public circles. If you’re conservative, you can get away with it, but in other circles, yeah, you really might not want to mention Reaganomics. And there it is.
RIck:
And then some of us name our kids after him. So, yeah–
David:
That’s right.
Rick:
Hey, got to take quick break, guys. We’ll be right back. Thanks for stay with us, folks. You don’t want to miss the good news in our final segment today. So, you’re listening to WallBuilders Live.
Biographical Sketches
Hi friends! This is Tim Barton of WallBuilders. This is a time when most Americans don’t know much about American history or even heroes of the faith. I know, oftentimes as parents, we”re trying to find good content for our kids to read.
If you remember back in the Bible, the Book of Hebrews it has the Faith Hall of Fame, where they outlined the leaders of faith that had gone before them. Well,, this is something that as Americans we really want to go back and outline some of these heroes not just of American history, but heroes of Christianity and our faith as well.
I wanted to let you know about some biographical sketches we have available on our website. One is called, “The Courageous Leaders Collection“ and this collection includes people like Abigail Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Francis Scott Key, George Washington Carver, Susanna Wesley, even the Wright brothers.
There’s a second collection called, “Heroes of History“ in this collection you read about people like Benjamin Franklin, Christopher Columbus, Daniel Boone, George Washington, Harriet Tubman, the list goes on and on.
This is a great collection for your young person to have and read. And it’s a providential view of American and Christian history. This is available at WallBuilders.com.
Rick:
Welcome back thanks for staying with us here at WallBuilders Live on this Good News Friday. We”ve got David and Tim Barton sharing good news. Tim from the road out there at a college. Special time this week teaching on a college campus, but still taking time t0 call in to give us some good news. Tim, what’s our next piece of good news today?
The Next One Comes From the Senate
Tim:
Guys, the next one comes from the Senate. Which, one of the things we”ve talked about is some of the good confirmations that has come out of the Senate was largely because President Trump and his administration have chosen some really good people to lead in various aspects of government. Well, this one is one of our friends, Governor Sam Brownback from Kansas. And we’ve had him on the show before, we’ve talked about him, he has a very solid pro-faith, pro-life, pro-family kind of guy. And he was appointed to be the religious freedom ambassador.
Which is actually kind of a big deal to have someone in that position because it really is recognizing that the religious persecution happening around the world. And we’ve identified on this program how ISIS Â has targeted Christians, really, anybody who doesn”t believe in their extremity of thought, they target those groups. The Christians have been the largest target from ISIS. During President Obama’s administration- and present Obama”s administration really didn’t do a very good job of identifying a lot of the persecution that was happening to Christians around the world. Where Christians had been the most targeted group for persecution.
So, one of the things, there was actually a position in the government that has this religious ambassador position. And their job is to look at the world and make sure that religious liberty is protected around the world with the nation’s allies, looking at nations in the U.N.. And that post, to my understanding, actually went vacated for a while under President Obama’s history.
David:
Tim, let me give a little background on this for just a little bit. This position was created in 1998 in the last part of the Clinton administration and it was used very effectively throughout the Bush administration. This ambassador for religious liberty would weigh in across the world wherever there was religious persecution and solved all sorts of issues. We’ve seen the folks being thrown in jail in North Korea, and in Iran, and in Pakistan, and all these places for their faith. And the religious liberty ambassador, that was the focus.
Obama Left the Position Vacant for 7 of His 8 Years
David
They would go to those nations and say, “Hey, sorry about that, you just happened to lose all of your foreign affairs funding that was coming from the United States.” “Oh wait, we’ll let the guys out of prison.” And so it really, really, worked well. And the eight years of Obama, he left that position unfilled for seven of the eight years. In the last year he put in a guy that was not very aggressive with it at all.
So, seven of the eight years he did absolutely nothing with it. You mentioned that Governor Brownback was nominated to fill that position and he made it through the first hurdle, made it through the committee hearing, past that. He’s now passed through the entire Senate, been confirmed on the floor of the Senate. So, Sam Brownback is the new religious liberty ambassador for the United States. Ironically, it was Sam Brownback, who at the time, was a U.S. senator not a governor, who was the guy who authored this bill, to create this post. So, now 20 years later here he is in that post that he helped author.
But, Tim, you’re exactly right, for seven years this position was not used. We had Christian genocides across the globe. And President Obama would not put anyone in this position to utilize the power that we have through the United States to be able to help secure religious liberty elsewhere.
Tim:
We are making progress going the right direction. And really, there couldn”t be a much better person to fill that position than Governor Sam Brownback. So, really it is encouraging, especially from a faith perspective, looking at what this could mean for persecution and Christians around the world. This really is encouraging.
Rick:
Does he do this while he’s governor or does he have to step down as governor?
David:
No, he will step down. The lieutenant governor is ready to step in and take his place. That’s already been worked out and arranged and so Sam is ready to step down. And it’s interesting, as many friends as Sam has in the Senate, because he was a really likable senator, he did a lot of bipartisan stuff, there was a lot of cooperation he was able to do without compromising values. It’s interesting on these kind of issues the Democrats have been voting 100 percent “no” against these nominees.
Vice President Pence Casts Another Deciding Vote
David:
They’re saying “no” to anything Trump does. As a matter of fact, when Sam was confirmed on the floor of the U.S. Senate, Mike Pence, Vice President, had to go in and cast the deciding vote. Not a single Democrat in the Senate voted for Sam Brownback for religious liberty ambassador. And he’s a guy that they know really well, and knows how strong he is on faith, and they all voted “no” on him. It took Mike Pence to make Sam Brownback the U.S. religious liberty ambassador.
And by the way, while we’re talking about President Trump having nominated Sam Brownback, let’s also point out that President Trump also issued a national proclamation for Religious Freedom Day. January the 16th, that’s the day that Jefferson”s statute of religious freedom passed in Virginia in 1786. Trump issues a national proclamation for Religious Freedom Day. And as part of that proclamation, he’s got great language in it, just going to read a little bit here real quick.
He says, “Unfortunately, not all have recognized the importance of religious freedom whether by threatening tax consequences for particular forms of religion like the Johnson Amendment, or by forcing people to comply with laws that violate their core religious beliefs without sufficient justification.” He says, “These incursions, little by little, can destroy the fundamental freedom underlying our democracy.” He said, “No American, whether a nun, a nurse, a baker, or a business owner, should be forced to choose between the tenets of faith or adherence to the law.” My gosh that’s weighing in on the homosexual LGBT movement. That’s weighing in on rights of conscience for nurses, and pro-life stuff, and contraceptives.
That’s a huge proclamation. He’s really taking a step on religious liberty as well.
