More Good News From The Trump Administration

It’s Friday and we love Fridays because we get to do good news throughout the entire program. We call it Good News Friday, it”€™s a chance to catch up on some of the stories that have been ignored by the major media and it will encourage you, it even encourages me. I like to see results and at least we know the system works, if we’ll work the system. So David, Tim Barton, lots of good news to share today. David, I assume you’re going to start us off today?

So David, Tim Barton, lots of good news to share today. David, I assume you’re going to start us off today?

I’m going to start us off. And for the third week in a row on Good News Friday I’ve got good news from the Trump administration. Again, as we mentioned before, this kind of sounds strange because as has been pointed out in previous two programs, all sorts of surveys and studies out there show anywhere from 86 percent, to 80 percent, to 93 percent, whatever, of the stories that the media has about Trump negative. So, you don’t hear much good news at all.

Well, last week we talked about the fact that the Trump budget that’s been proposed for this coming fiscal year eliminated 66 complete federal programs. It’s nearly $27 billion in those in those federal programs.

Which we talked about, even one we could spend a day talking about, just phenomenal. And for it to be that many it’s just overwhelmingly good news.

That”€™s right. But that’s what he eliminated. So, what is he spending his money on? Now, I would argue that where you spend your money shows policy. We’ve talked about this before, I do not spend my money at Starbucks. It’s real simple, it’s not that they don’t have good coffee, or in my case, good hot chocolate.

I’m not old enough for coffee yet.   I haven’t reached that age limit, but at some point maybe I’ll be old enough for coffee.  But I do hot chocolate.

But when Starbucks made the announcement that, “€œHey, we’re going to take our profits and roll them back into measures to defeat traditional marriage. We don’t think marriage should be between a man and a woman and we’re going to take our profits and spend it on endeavors that help overturn traditional marriage.”€ I said, “€œYou”€™re not going to spend my money doing that.”€ Maybe for other people.

So I’m not a Starbucks fan anymore.  I don’t patronize them. And for me, where I put my money tells me a lot about my values and where they are.

Where Is Trump Spending Money In His New Budget

We’ve seen that Trump cut 66 complete programs, eliminated them in his proposed budget. But where does he spend money? And in this case, look at where he spends money on pro-life issues. Now, because the budget is such a big deal and there’s so much spending, I think it’s like right at two trillion dollars in spending it there, it takes a lot of people looking into it to see where their interests are protected.

And our friends over at the Congressional Pro-life Caucus, in the House it”€™s the largest caucus in the House of Representatives.  It”€™s made up of mostly Republicans and a handful of Democrats.  They go through the entire budget, thousands of pages to see how does spending affect anything related to the life issue.

And in doing that, here is what they came back with. For example, in his budget Trump says that he prohibits governmental discrimination against health care providers that refuse to cover abortion.

In other words, “€œIf you don’t fund abortion you can’t be singled out and discriminated against by the government.”€ Which is what Obama did for the last eight years. Which led- even though it wasn’t funding, and that’s what Hobby Lobby and Little Sisters of the Poor”€™s discrimination if you have a position on abortion.

So Trump reverses that and says, “€œYou will not discriminate against health care providers that will not cover abortion.”€ So that’s where he puts money. He prohibits money from going to abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood. They cannot receive any money that’s made available through HHS appropriations and that’s the title 10 family planning and all that.

You Won’t Hear This On The News

I’m beginning to see why the left was so angry when he won. Think of the difference, here we would be funding these folks, anybody providing abortions should be all for it, this is the exact opposite. They knew this was coming.

They knew it was coming. And this is not the stuff that makes national news. I’ll bet you all these things I’m covering right now nobody’s heard about in the national news. Even though they’re in the public budget, but why are they not out there? Because the overwhelming majority of the national media is pro-abortion.

So they don’t want to talk about their getting their head handed to them right now in this budget proposal. They just want to talk about how bad he is, and how that he’s making stuff up, and how he”€™s got scandals, and they make up the fake news, and whatever.

So that’s two measures. Let me go to a third one. What he does is he prohibits funding for abortion in the Immigration and Customs Enforcement. That is ICE, what we know as ICE.  You cannot use any federal funding for abortions for detainees.

So those that are legally here that might be held that wanted an abortion.   Sorry, you don’t get federal funds to pay for an abortion for a detainee.

And so then if you look at D.C. the federal Constitution gives the U.S. Congress authority over D.C.  They prohibit any funding from being placed into measures that carry in the physician-assisted suicide measure, the council there in D.C. passed physician assisted suicide.

Well, D.C. doesn’t have its own money, it has to get it from the federal government.  And so the budget prohibits any money at all from being used to fund physician-assisted suicides.

Amazing Pro-life News

Also, what they’ve done is they have not requested any money at all for international family planning. And that’s significant.  Going back to Hillary when she was secretary of state, she pointed out, she started what was called The Office of Women’s Services which was to promote abortion and promote homosexuality.

So what Trump is doing is he is stepping in and starting to defund programs like that. So he completely defines the International Family Planning Program. That’s where they promote abortion internationally.

We talked a few years ago where this was going on, where that through this in Kenya the pastors got together in Kenya and said, “€œWe are a pro-life nation. We will not kill unborn children.”€ And they got it in the Constitution.  And the State Department said, “€œOh, sorry, we can’t give you any of the money appropriated out of the State Department until you get that anti-abortion provision out of your constitution. You have to be pro-abortion to get U.S. federal dollars.”€ That’s nonsense. So now that provision we’re seeing that go away in this budget.

Also, there is absolutely no funding at all for the United States Population Fund that’s UNFPA. This is what it says, “€œOh, we have to keep the population under control, the best way to do that is abortion.”€ So here they are pushing abortion again through the State Department.  And there is no funding at all for that.

So, that’s just five measures in this budget that are pro-life that you’re probably not going to hear about on the news. But that is very good news because these things all help protect life, not only in the United States but all across the world we’re starting to protect unborn life which is the kind of stuff that God can bless.

And like we talked about last week, this is his proposed budget.  We’ve still got to get it passed in the House and the Senate, but the fact that this is our starting point is better than we’ve had it in my lifetime that I can remember that we’ve ever had this much being cut from a budget, this many positive things in a budget for the president to start with, so just great news. Tim pointed out how much this shows the good people that he’s got around him that would be making these kinds of plans and putting this kind of budget together.

So stay with us folks.  We have much more good news for you.   Tim Barton will be up next when we return on WallBuilders Live!

America”€™s History

This is David Barton with another moment from America’s history. Often today it seems that the federal government has become too intrusive in the local matters. And federal micro-management has now, unfortunately, become the norm in education, law enforcement, religious expressions, and even on what is and is not moral.

Strikingly, the Founding Fathers had intended that the federal government never intrude into any of these issues. As Thomas Jefferson explained, “€œTaking from the states the moral rule of their citizens and subordinating it to the federal government would break up the foundations of the Union. I believe the states can best govern our home concerns and the federal government our foreign ones.”€

According to Thomas Jefferson, the original plan was for the federal government to direct foreign affairs but for the states and local communities the domestic and the moral ones.

Parents Took A Stand Against Planned Parenthood

We”€™re back, thanks for staying with us here on WallBuilders Live! It”€™s Tim Barton’s turn to give us some good news. Tim, where are we headed?

This one is from Michigan. And guys, this is as I was reading this article, first of all, I was dismayed by the initial decision from a school district up in Michigan. And then of course very encouraged by the final result but it actually wasn’t the school that made the final result, it was the outcry of the parents. Nonetheless, it ended up being a positive thing.

But here’s kind of the reality that unfolded, up in the Saline area”€™s schools, located south of Ann Arbor, the school-

That’s a really conservative part of the state, generally speaking. I mean, that’s not your Detroit area. That’s more of a red part of Michigan.

Well, based on the parent’s behavior from what it transpired, certainly I would think that you had some conservative parents there. But the school proposed to allow Planned Parenthood to come in and train teens and then the teens would come back and help teach the sex education class to their peers.

Oh, man.

Oh, bro,  it’s astounding.

You have to be kidding me.

Oh, it gets better.

Wait, who proposed this?

The school district was going to partner with Planned Parenthood-

These are the people in charge of your kids in a conservative part of the state.

So they went to Planned Parenthood and ask Planned Parenthood to help them do their sex ed training for the school. So Planned Parenthood comes up with a curriculum, part of the curriculum involves them doing 50 hours of training with students so that those students can turn around and teach their peers one lesson about a birth control method.

I can”€™t imagine how this could possibly go wrong.

Fifty hours of training by Planned Parenthood to teach one lesson?   Tell me that you need 50 hours to teach a young person to deliver one lesson, ain’t no way.

No. We’re talking about a 25-30 minute presentation is what they’re doing.

You can do that and have them read a pamphlet. You can have you can teach a 15-minute lesson and have them read a pamphlet.

So fifty hours is certainly indoctrination is what we’re getting into in this situation. But, the school district opened it up for response and they wanted to see how the parents felt about this.

That wasn”€™t a good move on their part.

Well, not if they wanted this to happen. So they said that they’ve abandoned this proposal because of the overwhelmingly negative responses they received from the public. “€œIt’s very apparent that moving forward with any-“€ And this is this is the principal talking, or the superintendent rather, “€œIt’s apparent that moving forward with any Planned Parenthood connected curriculum at this time would be a negative idea.”€

So first of all, the parents’ outcry was so strong against Planned Parenthood that he says, “€œWe can’t do anything with Planned Parenthood at all. Period.”€ Well, then some of the responses from the parents are coming out in explaining some of their frustration. They include some of those in this article. But in this article, the parents identified and it says, “€œSeveral people said that this would only encourage promiscuity and abortion.”€

Their right, we have dozens of studies literally on that.

Exactly, so this as one of the parents identified, “€œWhat’s going to happen is that as you encourage students to use contraceptives that when these contraceptives fail then they will have been instructed the solution for a failed contraceptive is, in fact, Planned Parenthood where you can go pay and get an abortion done.”€

And so certainly there was an outcry from the parents. So the good news is that this school district has realized, “€œHey, our parents don’t want this nonsense being taught.”€

I’ll take the better news is that parents sounded off and did not remain silent. And this can be done in any school district in the United States. If parents decide they want to stand up on their back legs and say, “€œGuys, you’re not doing this.”€ And if they will do that you will get the same kind of response even in blue districts.

Planned Parenthood Is Getting Backlashed

Ok, Cowboy Barton, I”€™ve got to ask you to explain this “€œstand up on back legs”€ thing.

That’s the difference between being a man and an animal. You can you can stay coward on all four legs but when you rise up on your back two legs like when a bear does, they’re angry, and somebody is about to be in trouble. When a horse gets up on its back to legs somebody is going to get hit with those front hooves. When they get up on their back two legs there’s danger coming. And that’s what makes man different from animals as they can stand up on things.

I love it.

But you know, not only was it encouraging that the parents stood up, but it was also encouraging to me that that superintendent identified, “€œWe can’t do anything of Planned Parenthood.”€ And that tells me that that’s become now a toxic name.  And as videos continue to come out-

Oh yeah. Even though the judge keeps trying to stop it.

Well, and even YouTube, YouTube has had many of their videos banned because of inappropriate content, or however they are identifying. But now YouTube is not having their videos up there.

And it”€™s not graphic content. It is purely on the philosophical content which tells you-

And actually, I could say it could be graphic in their description, right? But you’re not seeing something-

But I guarantee you it’s not as descriptive as there is a lot of the games that are being played.

Oh my gosh, forget even the games. How about some of these music videos?

That’s right.

With all the sexual gyrating and all the things that are, I mean, but it’s an ideological thing which is what we know. And so the fact that YouTube’s even pulling it down- nonetheless, the fact that Planned Parenthood has now become so toxic that people identify, “€œOoh that’s bad.  Anything they do we want to stay away from.”€ That is good news because it’s exposing them for the murder mill that they are. And finally, they’re being identified for what they actually do.

Good stuff, alright, quick break. We’ll be right back with David Barton coming up on Wallbuilders Live!

Encouraging The Hearts Of The People

Welcome back to WallBuilders Live, Good News Friday, today. Thanks for staying with us. Tim, wait no, David Barton is up with some good news.

I’d be happy to go again though. We don”€™t have to take turns. We are not socialist.  This is not all even.

There is a stack between us that is two inches tall of one and two-page articles that are nothing but good news. I mean, two inches of that, there’s no way we’re going to cover that in the last half of this program.

How do you guys pick?  I’ve never asked you that, I mean, there’s more than you can cover. So do you just do you just randomly grab one? Or do you say, “€œOk, we”€™ve got cover this subject?”€ Or, “€œWe need to cover this part of the country.”€

Let me give you an answer on part of that. Part of it goes back to what happened in the Bible back in the Book of Joshua. Actually back in Exodus and then in Deuteronomy and then in Joshua, where God said, “€œI’ve got a promised land for you. I want you guys to go and live there.”€ And Moses said, “€œWell, we’ve never been here before.  So let”€™s send 12 guys and go to check out the land. They’ll do reconnaissance mission and come back and tell us what’s there.”€

They were the governors of the tribes if you will, they weren’t spies, but they spied out the land. And ten guys came back and said, “€œMy gosh, the giants are so big there. They will squash us like bugs.”€ And they talked about how big everything was and they had a fearful response. And Joshua and Caleb came back and said, “€œOh my gosh, are they big there, they”€™re giants, but this is going to be fun to knock them down.”€

And so Joshua and Caleb had a very positive aggressive mentality, and God said, “€œOk, you two guys you get to go in the promise eventually. The rest of you guys are out of here. I don’t like it when you discourage my people.”€

And so the first thing that I look for is what is encouraging? Because Tim and I both are very aware of what goes on in the news, we keep up with news, Rick you do the same thing. And so when things come across my desk that I consider to be encouraging to our particular worldview, a somewhat conservative, Biblical, constitutional worldview, things that I know that I’ve not heard in national news stories, but I know they’re out there because I’ve got the articles on it. That’s what I look for, things that will do the Joshua and Caleb thing of encouraging the hearts of God’s people rather than discouraging the hearts which is what most news does anyway.

Yeah, no doubt. And it works, I mean it works for me, I love getting the good news. If I only hear the bad stuff all the time I start wondering, “€œWell, is there any point? I know I’m supposed to be willing to go do my duty and leave the results up to God. But it’s hard to do if I can’t see some victory.”€

So I know it works for me, and we get, of course, e-mails and letters and run into people at speaking events around the country, all three of us, that people just they love hearing these stories. So yeah, I just appreciate the research you guys do.

I didn’t mean to hit you blindside with a random question, I just started thinking, “€œWell, I know we never get through the stacks, so how do you pick which ones to share? It’s good stuff. Go ahead, let’s grab a short one before we go to the break.

Repealing The Johnson Amendment

I’ve got another one out of the Trump Administration. Back in January, he floated a sample trial balloon on a religious liberty executive order that he would do. And then some months later, three months or so later, he came out with that executive order. And as part of it he had said that he’s going to get rid of the Johnson Amendment, that he’s got to make sure that pastors have the freedom to stand in their pulpit and say what they want to say whatever that may be.

And then that was in the original trial but it didn’t come out in the executive order. And some people were really upset-

Which actually, he doesn’t have the authority to remove the Johnson Amendment. So, the fact that you’re mentioning people who got upset because he didn’t, he didn’t have the authority to. But he can at least say, “€œThis is a bad idea. We don’t want to do this.”€ And we identified that he did talk to his agencies and told them, “€œHey, you need to kind of stand down on this.”€

Tim is exactly right. It is a congressional law, he cannot by executive order repeal a congressional law or policy. It takes Congress to do that. And so he did tell the IRS, “€œHere’s the way I want you enforcing things. I don’t want you going after churches.”€ And that’s his agency, he can tell them that.

So he’s doing the spirit of what he promised to do. But what has happened is over on the House side now they have started hearings into repealing the Johnson Amendment. And so Jim Jordan who is on the House Oversight Committee which oversees government type policies like that held the first hearing on repealing the Johnson Amendment. It looks like there are two other committees also looking into repealing the Johnson Amendment. So it looks like three committees are into that.

And you’ve got Jim Jordan who said, “€œLook, the first thing we’re going to do is point out how that this is an illegal unconstitutional restriction on free speech. Unions aren’t limited from saying what they want to say that they’re a nonprofit. They get that same nonprofit recognition. How come churches are limited from saying what they want to say? This is stifling free speech, this has a chilling effect on the First Amendment, this is wrong.”€

So the hearings have started, we’re starting to move in the right direction. Now I applaud President Trump for drawing attention to this in the first place in that campaign. And then second for putting out the trial balloon. And third for the executive order not containing a repeal which he can’t do constitutionally. He got back inside constitutional bounds which I applaud him for. And I also applaud Jim Jordan and the guys in Congress for picking this up and starting to move this thing forward.

We’ll see what they do with it, they can defund it, defund the enforcement of this, through the reconciliation process which only takes 51 votes. But they get the whole thing repealed. It’s probably going to take a 60 vote margin which means you’re going to have to have nine Democrats come on to this which is probably unlikely. But they’re pushing and they’re making it a national issue and that’s really good news and the fact that Trump told the IRS not to go after churches is also really good news.

Quick break, we’ll be right back with some final good news for you today you’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

Biographical Sketches

Hi, friends! This is Tim Barton of WallBuilders. This is a time when most Americans don’t know much about American history or even heroes of the faith. I know, oftentimes as parents were trying to find good content for our kids to read.

If you remember back in the Bible, the Book of Hebrews it has the Faith Hall of Fame, where they outlined the leaders of faith that had gone before them. Well, this is something that as Americans we really want to go back and outline some of these heroes not just of American history, but heroes of Christianity and our faith as well.

I wanted to let you know about some biographical sketches we have available on our website. One is called, “€œThe Courageous Leaders Collection“€ and this collection includes people like Abigail Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Francis Scott Key, George Washington Carver, Susanna Wesley, even the Wright brothers.

There’s a second collection called, “€œHeroes of History“€ in this collection you read about people like Benjamin Franklin, Christopher Columbus, Daniel Boone, George Washington, Harriet Tubman, the list goes on and on.

This is a great collection for your young person to have and read. And it’s a providential view of American and Christian history. This is available at

The Response To Physician Assisted Suicide.

Thanks for staying with us today on WallBuilders Live! We”€™ve got one segment of good news left. Tim Barton is first, go ahead, bro.

This one comes from Maine and this is related to physician-assisted suicide. This is something we’ve seen growing and gaining traction in the nation where some states have already moved that direction especially out on the West Coast.

You’ve seen States embracing this and saying, “€œHey, we think if people are sick and they want to die doctors should be able to kill them if they want to die.”€ And certainly, that is very degrading to the value of life. But when you don’t recognize that life comes from God, that God is the Author and Giver of life therefore life is precious and sacred. We don’t believe in respecting the dignity of life and wanting to preserve life.

And it seemed like this trend was just going to kind of keep rippling that direction. Well, Maine is a good indication that maybe it’s not going to continually ripple that direction because Maine is not known as a super conservative state and yet Maine voted down a bill just very recently that would have allowed doctors to prescribe this fatal dose of medication to terminally ill patients. And by the way, this was a bipartisan defeat, 85 to 61 vote against the bill following it says, “€œLengthy and oftentimes emotional debates among the lawmakers.”€

But this is really positive news that what looked like could be the new trend is now an even arguably a liberal state been stopped, “€œWe don’t think doctors ought to be killing people.”€ So that is good news.

Drinking And Driving Is Plummeting

Alright, David, do you have one more before we go? We”€™ve got just a minute or two left here.

I do. It goes back a couple of weeks ago when we had that car that crashed into the crowd of people in Times Square and killed several people and we all waited with expectation to hear that it was another terrorist attack.

As it turned out, it was a DUI. And so while the loss of life was tragic there was actually, I don’t know if I’ve ever in my life said that MSNBC got something right. But MSNBC their commentator Chris Hayes, this was his quote, “€œThis horrible event in Times Square.”€ And he was being sarcastic, “€œThis horrible event in Times Square looks like a DWI which kills thousands of more people a year than terrorism.  So we can just ignore this.”€  And just being sarcastic he says, “€œHow come we cover terrorism all the time and drunk driving kills so much more than terrorism does and we don’t focus on it?”€

And here’s the good news from that story, and not that the people who died there.  That’s tragic. But the good news is that since 1982 there has been a plummet in the number of deaths that result from drunk driving.

As a matter of fact, particularly with young people. In the 1970″€™s alcohol was a factor in 20% of traffic deaths and nearly 70% of traffic deaths involving young people. Today it’s about a third in those groups.  So it’s way down from two-thirds to a third.

And also in “€˜82, there were 5,200 young people aged 16 to 20 who died in drunk driving accidents. By 2008 it was under 2,000.

So, good news is that the drunk driving trend is definitely plummeting, it”€™s going in the right direction. Bad news that it did kill those folks at Time Square. But the good news is that that is a decrease in declining trend in America.

Good stuff, guys. All the way around. Thanks for all the good news. Looking forward to next week. Always good to get our spirits lifted a little bit and hearing the good news from across the country. Folks you can get more of it at our website and you go there anytime and we do encourage you to share that. Send it out on Facebook, and Twitter, and Instagram, and all of those social media outlets.
