AMERICAN HISTORY

This is Tim Barton from WallBuilders with another moment from American history. After the final victory at Yorktown, the Continental Army awaited the outcome of peace negotiations with the Great Britain. Pastor Israel Evans, a chaplain in the army proposed to George Washington that they build a structure where church services could be held during the month of waiting. Washington approved the plan and urged officers to ensure that the soldiers attended service.

Pastor Evans further knew if we were to secure the liberties they had fought for, sound education would be crucial. He declared, “Every parent and every friend of the freedom of his country ought to be attentive to the improvement of our youth in the principles of freedom and good government; and then the people will stand fast in their liberty for a long time.” Our schools today need to return to teaching the principles of freedom and good government in order for America to survive and prosper.

We’re back here on WallBuilders Live. Thanks for staying with us. Always good to have Kirk Cameron with us. Kirk, thanks for some time today, man.

Kirk:

Hey, Rick, great to talk with you, and looking forward to seeing you soon.

Rick:

Yeah, I was just about to say I’ll see you at the end of the month in Washington, DC of all places. We’re going to go visit the nation’s capital and have an incredible evening for American Campfire Revival. I’m looking forward to it, man.

Kirk:

Oh, I am too. I always loved going to Washington, DC. It’s so inspiring. I love going to visit the monuments. And this time we’re going with this great purpose, and it’s to hold this amazing revival event in the historic Constitution Hall. This is a beautiful building.

Every president since Calvin Coolidge has attended events here, and many revival meetings have been in this room. It’s right across from the White House, and it’s going to be an incredible night of inspiration, of worship, of great preaching. And speaking from you and me and Pastor John Amanchuku, it’s going to be an awesome night.

And it’s the finale to a three-day tour of Washington, DC that a lot of other friends are going to be taking. They’re visiting the monuments. They’re going to Congress. We’re going to be at the Museum of the Bible. And everything is culminating in this American Campfire Revival, and a whole night of revival. And so super excited and we want people to register and join us because it’s absolutely free.

Rick:

So you mentioned a couple of days beforehand, so this group that’s going to be there and see all these things, that one’s full, right? You’re already full on that. Oh, man, I love doing that. Every chance I get to visit my sister in Virginia, I try to take a trip to Washington, DC. Because seeing the Lincoln Memorial, checking out the Jefferson Memorial, going to some of the incredible museums there, including the Museum of the Bible is always worth the trip. So if you want to do that, this would be a great weekend to do it and then finish it off or start your weekend by joining us on July 29th at 07:00 pm for a free night of revival at Constitution Hall. It’s going to be an incredible night. You will not want to miss it.

Constitution Hall

Rick:

This is a first for me, Kirk. So I’ve done DC a million times, I think, but I’ve never been to Constitution Hall. I’ve done Congress Hall in Philadelphia, which is the little chamber there where they met for 10 years. So Congress Hall, Independence Hall, those places we filmed in all that. I’ve never been to Constitution Hall. So I want to be learning from you that night.

Kirk:

That doesn’t surprise me that you haven’t been there before, because it’s tough to even know what it is and where it looks like. So we’ve got some special connections. We’ve pulled some strings to get in there, and it’s hard to even find real pictures of Constitution Hall. It’s a really special building, an incredible room. It holds thousands of people. And we want to fill it up on July 29th at 07:00 pm for this free night of revival. 

And Rick, I have to say, teaming up with you and the Patriot Academy has been such an inspiration for me, and I have learned so much from your comedy in the Constitution tours. And everything that you’re doing with David and Tim Barton and WallBuilders has been so instrumental in me learning about what makes America so unique and exceptional in the world.

Rick:

Well, this is for such a time as this moment, man. I think God’s been bringing us both through these journeys, David and Tim as well. I was telling David just the other day, for all of the things he’s been doing for 30 years, for what we’ve been doing at WallBuilders, for what I’ve been doing at Patriot Academy, what you’ve been doing at American Campfire Revival, for such a time as this.

I think the people in this country are hungry for truth. They want to know what the foundations are because they feel the shifting sands, they realize that the nation’s in trouble right now, so they’re looking for the answers.

 Pieces of the Puzzle

And the good news is good news that we have answers. The Bible gives us the answers to all these things, and we know from our history the things that need to be done to turn the culture around. So I just think all of these pieces of the puzzle, God’s been moving around for exactly this moment, and I think a lot of that’s going to culminate in Washington, DC on the 29th. 

I think that’s going to be a really special night. You said something I want to dive into, and that is revivals that have taken place in that room in the past. So go there for a minute in the tradition that we’re going to be jumping on here.

Kirk:

So revival is something that, we hear the word revival, I don’t know about you, but sometimes I think of a sweaty preacher waving a handkerchief around under a big white tent in the south, somewhere out in the field, and everybody’s with swatting mosquitoes, and you can’t wait to get to the macaroni salad and everything. But revival is really…

Rick:

You just described my childhood I just want… Yeah, go ahead.

True Revival

Kirk:

When I grew up in California, so I’ve never really been to one of those, it’s just this picture in my mind. But true revival is infusing life back into something that threatens to become a corpse, something that is dying and bringing it back to life. Think of the valley of those dry bones in the Old Testament story, where the prophet is standing there, and there’s this valley filled with all these dried bones, and God says, speak to these bones and I will make them live.

And the bones start to rattle, and they come together, and they start clapping their hands, and they stand up like a big giant army. And God puts the bones together and flesh on the bones, and he says, this is the house of Israel, and he’s going to bring life back to the house of Israel.

Well, this is what we want. We want the people of God, the family of faith, to have real life infused into us from heaven, the power of the Holy Spirit working through us to bring heaven to earth. And we want to see that here in America. It’s happened before. There are revivals that we could talk about, certainly, the Great Awakening, the Second Great Awakening, there’s been other revivals that have had real change, and true revival is, again, not just a spiritual hot flash, it’s not just something that gives you some goosebumps on a Sunday afternoon. It is wholesale, systemic, long term transformation at the personal or individual level, but also at the institutional level.

We want to see marriage transformed, wholesale, families revived from the roots so that the fruit of our children is sweet. We want to see the church, we want to see civil government, we want to see schools and education transformed and revived. And that happens when we get back to a repentant reaffirmation of our covenant with God and we apply his word to every sphere of life.

But, Kirk, you could not have known this. Yesterday, was at my daughter’s church, where she does praise and worship, and they sang the song, “This is the sound of dry bones rattling”, and then you say what you just said, oh, my gosh, it’s just perfect. That’s exactly what we want.

And then I had this image, as you were describing, this is more than just a flash. I had this image of meat on the bones of actually training people to make revival real in their lives and in their communities. And that’s what the American Campfire Revival does.

You actually dive into, what does this look like long term and so, giving people the chance to spend a night with you on a weekly basis through video after this. Come July 29th, get on fire and then become a campfire coach and actually take Kirk’s course, American Campfire Revival into your home and into your community. What an incredible plan. I love this.

Weekly Meetings

Kirk:

Rick, I can’t tell you how grateful I am to be partnering with you and your whole team at the Patriot Academy. And these Campfire Revival weekly meetings that we’re having online, and hundreds of people in person, having them in their backyards or at their churches or in a parking lot, or at Walmart or at their office, is so exciting. And this has been my dream since I started the American Camp Fire Revival, is that it wouldn’t just be Mike Siever in his backyard praying and asking God for revival.

But rather thousands and thousands of people making campfires in their backyard or in their living room, lighting a fire in their fireplace and gathering friends and other liberty-loving patriots saying, Lord, what do you want me to do? What is my part in this? Help me turn my heart back to you and to my home and to my country, and help me spread the message to other people.

This has been happening through these weekly Campfire Revival meetings, through the Patriot Academy, and we’re going to be celebrating that as well. So, if you have wanted to join one of these groups and be a part of a local body or you want to lead one of these groups, become a campfire coach. We’ve got a curriculum. It’s free.

We do all of the heavy lifting. Literally, you just invite people to your house, have a cup of coffee or whatever, just roll out the hospitality carpet and then play the video and just start discussions and start to pray together. And you watch how the Holy Spirit begins to take over with you as the coordinator, as the lead learner, as the campfire coach. It’s awesome. And we’re going to show you how to do that on July 29th, if you come to our event.

We Need To Join Together

Rick:

And you don’t have to have any experience with this, you don’t have to be a constitution expert or a history expert or any of those things, anyone can do this. As you said, Kirk, the lead learner, you’re the one that just gets the people in the room.

There’s something about the fellowship. We need that time together, that iron sharpening iron, coal coming together light up. And so July 29th, it’s going to be this massive gathering of people doing exactly that.

There’s something about being in a room like that. You realize you’re not alone. You realize there are people all over the country that are doing this, and then you take that back home to your community and do that in your living room, which is five people or ten people or whatever it is that come together and have that exact same experience of realizing they’re not alone and then having these great conversations.

And the teaching, Kirk, that you and Marshall Foster do in American Campfire Revival, I just can’t say enough about it. It is so good and so applicable. I mean, it’s stuff that people may think, I don’t know, history, constitution, biblical world view, I don’t know that I really can grab a hold of all that. It is so applicable. You actually talk about this is how we save the country, this is how for your family liberty can happen. And it’s just real.

And so for ten weeks, people get around their own campfire or in their living room and do that. But it all starts with July 29th in Washington, DC. Now, Kirk, if someone can’t make it, are you guys going to be streaming this on your Facebook page? Or is there a way to participate at all? Or is it just in person and then maybe later they get to see clips? How’s this going to work?

This is just an in-person event. We may have some clips that we can show on social media afterward. But it’s not going to be the same if you’re not there.

I’m going to be there. We have Ben Calhoun is going to be there. We have the Sound who’s going to be offering some special music that night too. So it’s going to be a night of worship, a night of inspiration, a night of learning, and a night of prayer.

And I’m assuming no vaccine passport needed, right?

Kirk:

No vaccine passport needed. That’s right. No mask needed. No vaccine passport needed. Just bring your whole heart and we’re going to do the very best that we can to connect you with other people who love liberty, who believe that America is a blessing. And we want to see that kind of freedom. We want to see all that we’ve enjoyed in this country pass on to our kids. And we know that the solution is not merely a political solution. Politics are important, and we’ve neglected those for too long in the family of faith.

But politicians can’t fix the problem. Only God can fix the problem. Because the real root of our issue is a spiritual root. And so we need to call out to God, cry out to God and repent and get back to the things that we did in the very beginning that caused this to become the greatest nation in the history of the earth.

Principles First

Rick, I love how you always say, if we want the results of freedom and liberty and prosperity and blessing and protection, we’ve got to realize that those are the results of inputs that early Americans put into this culture. And so if we want the outputs, if we want the product, we’ve got to get back to those inputs, those original principles, and we’re going to be talking about those principles, and we’re going to be singing about those principles, praying about those things, and then discussing how we can apply those things in our local communities

Rick:

Just two and a half weeks away, July 29th, Washington, DC. Constitution Hall, it’s going to be an amazing event. Last thing, Kirk, how can people pray for this event ahead of time? What would you like them to be praying for that night?

Kirk:

I want to say let’s not forget that God has been moving in our country. Look at what has happened at the Supreme Court recently Roe versus Wade has been effectively overturned. We have religious liberties that are being reinforced and honored by the Supreme Court. We have Second Amendment rights, liberties that are being reinforced. We are getting back to original constitution meaning, and all of this is happening from the Supreme Court. This is so exciting.

Let’s ride this momentum that we’re seeing right now and let’s show up and let’s pray ahead of time that God will not only wake people up and bring them to this event, but that this will be a night where people say Lord, I’m meant to be on the stage of the world at this moment. You have given me a desire in my heart, you’ve equipped me, you’ve given me gifts and talents and you’ve given me resources and relationships. Now show me what to do. Where can I go and make a difference? If we have people coming with that intention, and I am so excited to see what will happen.
