Metrics On Women In Combat And In The Draft

So, David, Tim, today talking about a topic we’ve actually covered. It’s been awhile since we covered this topic. But is rearing its ugly head again and it has to do with putting women into combat on the frontlines and even instituting a draft including them if there is a draft.

David:

Yeah, they’ve moved beyond women in combat and they’re going to include women in the draft. Part of this was done right at the last part of the Obama administration. And there’s a real problem. What goes here is they say, “€œLet’s have women in combat, have full equality.”€ But the problem is that they haven’t tested these ideas.

They sound like a great idea but they haven’t tested it. And what we found was at the latter part of the Obama administration they said, “€œWomen in combat. W are opening everything to women.”€

So, the Marine Corps did some testing and they integrated women into land combat units and they found that it hurt the entire military movement. Because the women were not able to carry their weight physically. They could not do physically what needed to be done. They couldn’t help carry a comrade to safety if he got wounded. And in so many ways they were unable to physically perform at the level that was needed for battle.

But the Obama administration said, “€œWell that’s fine, we’re going to have women in combat anyway.”€ So the metrics were there to say, “€œThis is not a good deal.”€ But they said, “€œWell, we’re doing it anyway.”€

So this was moving through. And by the way, part of the model that people use is, “€œWell, Israel does it. Every kid in Israel when they turn 18 has to go in the military. That’s men and women.”€ Yeah, and I was recently in Israel. I was there at the tank force with all the guys running the tanks and there were women there as well.   And we asked them and they said, “€œNo, women in Israel don’t get to do tanks.  We don’t go into combat, we do lots of stuff, we do communication.”€ They are the trainers, by the way, they are instructors on firearms and shooting, they”€™re in the instructions on nearly everything, but they don’t go into battle.  And so that false narrative is given over here that, “€œWell, women battle.”€

Training Your Family For Battle

Tim:

And by the way, let me just point out that Israel is also a pretty small nation and they aren’t sending their troops overseas. They’re defending their homes and their borders. So it would be almost like the equivalent of us training our wives and our families in self-defense and home protection.

Rick:

That’s right.

Tim:

That’s like the equivalent of the training for the Israeli women because they’re not going to the front line to be aggressive and attack. But you know what, you need to know how to protect your country, your home, your nation, whatever it is. If we are attacked, which is really almost just being prudent in self-defense to helping train our families, our wives, that they’re not going to be a victim in the mall parking lot or whatever the case is.

So even that comparison is so skewed when you consider that Israel is attacked on a daily basis in their homeland. And so really, for them, they’re just defending their home territory. This is not a scenario that we’re going to send them off to Russia or North Korea or China or Iraq or Afghanistan, wherever it is. Israel never does that.

Rick:

And by the way, Tim, it’s not just like training our wives and daughters. The Greens and the Bartons do train.  All of the men, women, so they are ready to defend.   Just a side note. Ok, go ahead.

Trump Wants To Get Rid Of Military Social Engineering

David:

So this debate goes on about, “€œWell, let”€™s have women in the military.  Let”€™s have the draft.”€ But there was another piece of information that got ignored in all of this. Currently, we allow women to do many things in the military, kind of like Israel does. We allow women to fly helicopters, and fly planes, and they do communication, the quartermaster kind of work, they do all sorts of stuff, but they’re not on the ground in actual, physical combat.

And when you look at what we’ve had with those who go, what we call, “€œdown range.”€ If you go out in the war on terror to Afghanistan, or Iraq, or wherever you go. You go down range, you come back. We”€™ve talked to the two-star general who is very much into the medical side of what happens. And he says, “€œRight now those who come back to America from having been downrange.”€ In other words, they’ve actually been there in the combat zone.

Now, remember, women don’t actually get to fight in combat, but they’re in the combat zone. He said, “€œCurrently, right now, when they come back to America, 10 percent of all males that have been deployed come back with PTSD.”€ Now, they’re the ones in actual combat.  He said, “€œCurrently, 90 percent of all females who are deployed come back with PTSD and they haven’t even been in combat. They’re just in the combat zone.”€

So you’re averaging about 20 percent of those who return from down range have PTSD, but it”€™s 10 percent men and 90 percent women. Is it possible there might be a physical distinction between men and women? There actually is a difference.

And so what’s happened is they’ve turned the military into social engineering without doing any tests or checking. And just before the election, about six weeks before the election, with President Trump and Hillary Clinton, we were part of being able to bring together about 137 military generals, and military officers, and NCOs, etc., with President Trump. Because we want to surround him with the right kind of military thinking and folks.

And one of the questions that he took from these guys is, “€œAre you going to stop the social engineering?”€ And he said, “€œOh yeah, we’re going to stop the social engineering. That’s not going to happen. You don’t do experiments in the military cause that risks your nation, it risks lives, it risks the lives of those who are involved.”€

And so you know, hopefully, there will be a stop to this kind of stuff. But you literally, have this movement in the Senate right now. It”€™s really going to the Senate to start putting women in the draft for combat and for combat service. And that’s just not a good thing. But again, we have some metrics out there and we’re just ignoring them.

Rick:

We do. We’re going to take a quick break, folks, but we’ll be right back. Don”€™t forget we have Dr. James Dobson coming up later in the program. You’re listening to WallBuilders Live.

Moment From America”€™s History

David:

This is David Barton with another moment from America’s history. Crime is one of America’s most serious problems today. Its effects reach not only the direct victims of violence but even those who have not been attacked. The concern for crime has not been limited to this century, however. Our Founding Fathers were also concerned about it. Yet, the effects of crime unquestionably were much less in their generation. So what was their deterrent to crime?

Signer of the Constitution James McHenry answered that question. He explained, “€œThe Holy Scriptures can alone secure to society order and peace. In vain, without the Bible, we increased Penal laws and draw protections around our institutions. Bibles are strong defenses, where they abound men cannot pursue wicked courses.”€

Founding Father James McHenry believed that widely teaching the Bible was the best means to deter crime. For more information on God’s hand in American history contact WallBuilders at 1 800 8 REBUILD.

Thomas Sowell”€™s Stages Of Thinking

Rick:

Welcome back to WallBuilders Live! Thanks for staying with us. Dr. James Dobson later in the program. We’re talking about women in combat and even a draft. Tim, I can tell you we’re about to say something, right as we had to go to break.

Tim:

Well, yeah, one of the things that is so prevalent on the left is they want to try to argue about the uniqueness of an idea. And they don’t think through the fact that ideas have consequences. Well, one of the things that Thomas Sowell really promoted strongly is that there’s stage 1 and stage 2 thinking.

David:

Thomas Sowell is a black economist, a great writer.

Tim:

He was a very famous black economist, a remarkable writer, brilliant guy.

Rick:

Unfortunately, retired his column this year. But he’s my son’s favorite economist too. And he was an economics major.  Anyway, go ahead.

Tim:

So, he talks about there is stage 1 and stage 2 thinking. In stage 1 thinking people only think about right now, the immediate.  How will it benefit me?  What can I get from this?  How can I make the most of this?

Stage 2 thinking is where you actually start measuring the consequences of that action from stage 1 thinking. “€œIf I do this in stage 1, what is that going to produce in stage two?”€ So it”€™s looking further down the road. And the left is just notorious for going, “€œHey, let’s do all these stage 1 ideas.”€ Which now is we’re talking about bathrooms, and however you identify, and we’re telling kindergarten students, “€œWell, just pick whatever gender you feel like today and use that bathroom.”€

There’s so much of a stage one mentality. Well, this is a really fun idea.  It’s a unique idea.  And nobody ever stops to go, “€œWait a second, what are going to be consequences of these ideas?”  Because every idea has consequences. So if we’re going to promote an idea it would be prudent to think it through, “€œWhat would this idea produce? What would are going to be the consequences of the actions from this idea?’

And this is where liberals have really just gone off the deep end. Because they don’t want to process and ponder, “€œWhat is it going to produce?”€ And so they’re stuck in this stage one, where, “€œHowever you I want to identify sexually, whatever bathroom you want to use, let’s have women in combat, and we’ve never stopped to consider what is that going to produce in the lives of women? What”€™s it going to be producing in culture?   What’s it going to produce in families?  How will that impact and affect them?

And this is where we have to start thinking more than just the uniqueness of an idea and thinking through to, “€œWhat is that idea going to produce?”€

A Nation Adrift

David:

You actually have a great DVD on that called, “€œA Nation Adrift“€ where you go into this thing about, “€œWe have all these unique ideas and think because it’s really unique let’s do it and we don’t look at consequences.”€ But there are consequences. And this is one of those things where we have some stats but we’re ignoring it because we love the idea of women in combat.   And the stats don’t go with it. It”€™s a great DVD.  Folks can get it on the website.

Rick:

The consequences are huge and it’s a good one to learn. In fact, we’ll do a link today where you can find out more information about A Nation Adrift. Dr. James Dobson has really taken up this issue actually for decades. And surprisingly a program he did on this 20 years ago actually stopped it whenever it was an idea in 1991. And here it is again. So Dr. Dobson has been sending out a letter to folks and talking about it and is on our program today to share. Dr. James Dobson when we return right here on WallBuilders Live!

Eviscerating The Differences Between Genders

Rick:

Thanks for staying with us here on WallBuilders Live! Thrilled to have Dr. James Dobson back with us today. Dr. Dobson, always good to have you, Sir.

James:

Rick, it’s a pleasure to be on, especially talking about a subject I care deeply about and this is one of them.

Rick:

Well, and in a subject that you’ve raised great awareness about. Not only today, and right now in the current debate and in Congress, but in years past. Many times able to put a stop to this nonsense. But over the last few years, the left has been able to make great gains in terms of their ideology being forced into the military. And of course, we’re talking about women in combat and now even a draft for women. So what has spurred the renewed need for us to get the American people informed about this once again?

James:

Well, there is no need for women in combat. I mean, it just does not make sense at all. But there are tremendous forces, the feminists and some of the gay movements, and others that are determined, absolutely, determined that women are going to be put on front line battlefields and furthermore they’re going to be drafted to put there.

And there’s a movement in Congress that people really need to know about. But it all comes down, Rick, to the differences in gender. And that’s where the politically correct notions come to the fore.

Rick:

Yeah, and of course now, it”€™s the culturally popular thing to do, is to just eviscerate all differences between the genders.  And this has obviously been a big goal of that of the left is for women to be treated the same as men in the military and put into the front lines of combat.

I was very intrigued in reading your letter and an article that in 1991 when this effort was first in the public’s eye you did a couple of programs on this and it became the largest response of 75 hundred programs that you’ve done. So it clearly hit a nerve with the American people.

What Made The American People Flood The Phone Lines To Congress

James:

As a matter of fact, I was focused on the family for 33 years in the studio.  And now, of course, it’s family talk. But those two programs that I did, that was the number one and number two radio topics that we dealt with in terms of response. There were more than fifty thousand letters and phone calls that came in within a day or two after that. So, the public knew what they thought then. They knew it was no doubt about it. They did not want women in combat roles.

Rick:

And that wasn’t just to you, right? It was to Congress too, they flooded the phone lines for Congress?

James:

They did, and we killed it. But here it is again.  It’s just like a bad habit, it just keeps coming back.

Rick:

Yeah, I also appreciated that you added the comments of General Barrow, the commander of the Marine Corps at the time.  No holds barred. He talked about how negative this would be on the military readiness.  Do you see leaders in the military today that are willing to speak out like that?

James:

No, because the Pentagon has just really shifted and it is so one sided. You know that letter you’re talking about was, I think, the most important letter I’ve ever written in terms of my constituency. Because I’m trying to clarify a myth that there are no differences between the genders. Males and females are not physically equivalent. They are vastly different in every way. Virtually every cell of their bodies, all cells of the bodies the sexes carry a different chromosomal pattern which influences body mass, and strength, and hormones, menstrual cycle, testosterone, estrogen, endurance, gender norming, all those things come out of genes. And they are not the same.

If males and females are identical, tell me why, you don’t hear anybody say this, why those that are out there claiming that males and females are identical, “€œWhy there’s not a single woman in the NBA, or Major League Baseball, or the NFL, or professional soccer, or tennis, or virtually any Olympic sports?”€ The sexes don’t even compete.

In shooting rifles, or table tennis, or curling, there’s just such differences between the sexes. Yet, combat is the most brutal, taxing, stressful activity in any human experience.

Killing is what it’s all about. Imagine, Rick, sending 17, 18, 19-year-old girls onto the sandy beaches of Normandy where two thousand men died on Omaha that first day. Is this what we want for our daughters? I submit that parents and grandparents will fight this proposal. It’s gone a long ways. It’s nearly there in the Senate. And I beg your listeners to get informed of what’s going on there.

This Is A Formula For Disaster

Rick:

At this point, Dr. Dobson, politically, this is moving through Congress. Is the best step for people to call the congressman, call the senator, and say and express outrage at the idea of their daughters being drafted?

James:

Senator McCain is the one that’s pressing this. He’s doing it behind closed doors. This is not in some committee that people can attend or know about. He’s got nine senators that are on his committee and they were all chosen for a specific purpose.

Eight of them are supportive of drafting our daughters. Whatever it’s going to be 18, 19, 20-year-old women who are just out of adult adolescence, if they are at all, and they’re going to be, if this would become law, they are going to be subjected to the draft.

And then, Rick, you know what’s going to happen? You can you can predict it with a hundred percent accuracy. The liberal courts will consider it discriminatory to send men to die on a battlefield but not women. And girls and women are going to be put in those highly stressful situations that they’re really not equipped for in terms of being able. What they can carry.  How fast they can run?  Can they swim?  Can they climb, and can they do pull ups? This is not insulting to women. Women have other attributes that we can’t touch. But there are differences between the two. And how dare anybody try to tell me they are not.

This is not insulting to women. Women have other attributes that we can’t touch.  But there are differences between the two. And how dare anybody try to tell me they are not.

Rick:

And it’s not only bad for the culture and certainly bad for those individual women that would be drafted. You quote Elaine Donnelly from the Center for Military Readiness who addresses it from strictly a military readiness point of view. She says, “€œThe Defense Department has decided to treat confusion about one’s sexual identity as a civil rights issue. Essentially extending special rights that reflect the LGBT fantasies and ideology, not a tangible reality. And if ever a reality hits you in the face it’s on the battlefield. This is a formula for disaster.”€

What About The Next Generation

James:

Elaine Donnelly knows more about this subject than I ever will. She is the expert and I tell you, you talk to her a little while and you begin to see where they want to take this. Rick, there’s one other thing I hope I have time share with you.

Rick:

Please!

James:

There’s another reason I haven’t heard anybody say this. I haven’t heard one single commentator, Christian or secular, say what I’m going to say now. There’s another reason women have not fought the wars historically. And it’s because of the critical nature of bearing and raising children in the next generation.

You know, for a child to lose his father is tragic but to lose a mother is catastrophic. And why would we put women at risk when they have the responsibility to bear the next. I mean, there’s a whole wagon load of humanity that follows along behind women.  And why would we put them in a situation where their children have to do without their mothers? Boy, I do not get that at all.

Rick:

So, you’re looking at it from a cultural perspective, generationally? Step back and saying, “€œNot only bad for that individual woman, bad for military readiness, but terrible for the next generation that is to be raised by them and taking that mother out of the home and out of the parental relationship that’s even more desperately needed.”€

James:

If you have watched children under 10 who are motherless children, they’re sad. I mean it’s awful to lose a father.  I’m not minimizing that at all.

Rick:

No, of course not. But here you’re talking about a choice. You don’t have to send the mothers to that battlefield in Afghanistan or somewhere else and put it in that situation. It’s not like we have a shortage of men willing to serve. There is not, as you said, at the beginning the program a need for this at all.

James:

It just makes no sense, and I wish Senator McCain would get a million letters. I wish he’d get a million phone calls. I wish that his phone would melt over this.

Rick:

Now is the time to do it. And we’re going to have links today, folks. We”€™ll have the phone numbers, the e-mail addresses if you want to call Senator John McCain, Congressman Duncan Hunter, and the Secretary of Defense General Mattis.

People have got to let their voice be heard on this. It”€™s the only way that it’s going to stop it. Dr. James Dobson, as always, so appreciate your perspective.  Appreciate your time today. And honestly, probably need to get you back again soon. Because this issue is going to going to take a long-term fight.

James:

Any time. Give my regards to David.

Take Action

Rick:

Thank you very much, Sir. Appreciate your being on. That was Dr. James Dobson. We’re back now with David and Tim Barton. Amazing that was the number one and number two. You think about all the topics he covered. Seventy-five hundred different programs and that was number one and number two. That tells you at least back then the American people understood this. It”€™s going to be interesting to see how they respond now.

Tim:

Well, to get 50,000 letters-

David:

In only a couple of days-

Tim:

On a single issue. But it also tells you there was a very clear moral compass. In the early 90″€™s people weren’t confused about marriage. They weren”€™t confused about genders. This was a very common sense issue. And we have been growing and training a culture of moral relativism.

Now we’re having a hard time determining and defining truth. So, in moral relativism where everything is equal and subjective. This is now going to be a tough issue to try to shift culture on. But hopefully, we can get enough common sense people out there going, “€œWait a second. You don’t have to shift me. I’m on board and I will make that phone call. I’m going to write that letter. I’m going to do something.”€

Rick:

That’s right.

David:

The one thing that hasn”€™t shifted, even though there’s been a shift in our culture, is the political process. And when representatives, senators get a note from you, whether it’s email or phone call or a letter, it still gets their attention.

I ask these guys regularly, “€œHow many letters does it take?  How many contacts do you need?  How many phone calls?”€ And they say, “€œIf we get 5 to 10 contacts on something we know it’s a really big issue to our people.”€

So they don’t do anything in communicating with their representatives. So if as Dobson said, “€œIf we get a million contacts into  John McCain saying, “€˜Have you lost your brain? What are you thinking?”€ I mean, get that to your senators.  Get it to your people.  Say, “€œHey, stop this nonsense. I don’t care how he stacked the committee. When this comes to the floor you kill it.”€

It just it doesn’t take that many to make a huge difference and that’s something that can still be done today.  And it doesn’t take that many of us to get this thing stopped and it needs to be stopped.

Rick:

And you’ve got an administration, I mean this is a president that when you get some common sense in front of him he’s typically going to say, “€œI don’t care what all the psychologists and all the different organizations are trying to say. This is crazy. We’re not going to do this to women. So you know, there’s a good chance we can put a stop to it.”€

David:

Yeah, we just need people to stand up and do something with it. And you know Dr. Dobson is giving us a clear call to action.  So let’s act on it.

Rick:

He made it clear, what happened last time.  What actually stopped it was all those phone calls and letters to the congressman. So folks, for more information you can go to our website right now today at WallBuildersLive.com.  We’ll have links on how you can contact your member of Congress.
