Faith and the Culture
Rick:
You find your way at the intersection of faith and the culture. Thanks for joining us today on WallBuilders Live, where we take on the hot topics of the day from a biblical, historical, and constitutional perspective.
That means every issue of the day, you can look at the Bible you’re going to find the right answer for that issue. You can look at history, and you can say, oh, here’s where someone went through that, here’s the right way to do things and here’s the things you can put into the culture that will give you good results, and then here’s where we see in history where people put the wrong inputs into the culture, and they got the bad results. We can always learn from a historical perspective.
And then of course, constitutional perspective, well, where do we live? We’re in the United States of America, therefore, our Constitution is the supreme law of the land. And that means we as citizens need to know how the Constitution works, and how to properly live out our duty as citizens under that Constitution. So we look at a biblical worldview, we look at a historical perspective, and we look at a constitutional perspective. And that’s how we address all the issues of the day, whatever they might be.
My name is Rick Green. I’m America’s Constitution coach and a former Texas legislator. And I am here with David Barton. He’s America’s premier historian, and our founder at WallBuilders, Tim Barton, national speaker and pastor and president of WallBuilders. And we are glad that you are with us as well.
We’re going to ask you to help us get more people listening as well. We’re growing like crazy. I was just looking at some of our numbers on podcast downloads and the stations that carry us, we’re on a little over 300 stations and then the podcast downloads have nearly doubled in the last couple years. I mean, it’s just growing like crazy. And so that’s good. That means you’re doing your part. We’re doing our part. So continue to do that.
Become a Force Multiplier
I’m going to ask you to do that by sharing the program with your friends and family and your contacts. Put it on social media. Grab those links, send them out there. That makes you a force multiplier. Thanks so much for being a part of it. Thanks for doing that. We’re in this together. We can, in fact, restore America’s constitutional republic.
Alright, David and Tim, a little bit later, Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler is going to be with us. She’s a congresswoman from Missouri that actually we’ve had on the program before, great conservative, but canceled now. She’s been caught up in the Cancel culture over this whole issue of men and women’s sports. And she actually had the nerve, I cannot believe, she had the nerve to actually say that only women should be in women’s sports. And that’s just not acceptable because she’s actually saying that this guy that’s over there swimming with the girls and taking away their trophies, and their championships is actually a guy.
David:
And by the way, Vicky Hartzler, this should not be surprised that she would say this. In all of her years in Congress, she has led what’s known as the Values Action team. And that was started a number of years ago back before everything was going woke and you actually believe there were values and that values needed to be defended.
And so it was started with Congressman Joe Pitts out of Pennsylvania. Joe had been a state legislator. He spent a number of years in Congress. He said, look, we’ve got anywhere from 10,000-13,000 bills a year introduced in Congress, and they’re so long and stuff gets tucked away. And we need somebody who can watch out for certain issues.
And that’s what a caucus says. You get the China caucus. You get the Navy caucus. You get the prolife caucus. They look through every bill to see if there’s anything related to their issues. And so Joe started what was called the Values Action team.
We look at all the things in every bill that deal with traditional family values, or biblical values, or traditional sexuality, traditional life, anything like that. So it’d be prolife. It’d be marriage and be parents and children, whatever it was.
Values Action Team
And so when Joe left Congress, Vicky became the leader of the Values Action team. So it doesn’t seem strange that the leader of the Values Action team in Congress, and I think there’s 72 members of Congress that are part of that caucus, that they would actually have a position on Judeo Christian values and biblical sexuality and gender, etc.
And so Vicky right now, by the way, is running for US Senate. And I saw a poll just yesterday that she’s now leading in that Senate race. I think there’s five or six running in that US Senate race.
And in Missouri, the top vote getter gets it, it’s not going to be a runoff. Whoever gets the biggest number is going to win that race. So that’s called a plurality rather than majority. So right now, she took the lead as of this week’s poll.
So she’s there in a Senate race. And what she tweeted after this biological male, Lia Thomas, and it’s hard to call a biological male Lia, but Lia Thomas, a biological male who won the race against women, as he’s been dominating for quite a while now against women, Vicky Hartzler tweeted this Lia Thomas, after he won another race. She said “Women’s sports are for women, not men pretending to be women.”
Now, for that simple statement of biological fact, and scientific fact or whatever you want to say, Twitter instantly pulled it down, and I was just curious. I went online, and just search for Vicky Hartzler for her statement, didn’t find her statement very readily, but I found a ton of headlines, saying that Twitter has suspended her for her “hateful comment”, “for her transphobic”.
Wait a minute, she just said what everybody got taught in eighth grade biology. What everybody knew then is now a hateful quote is transphobic. So she’s really made the news on this and it’s standing out that she just simply defended her gender. And for doing so, which, by the way, was the big thing in the 70s, 80s, 90s, even to five years ago defending women and defending their gender, now she’s doing that, and all of a sudden, that’s hateful and transphobic. It’s just crazy to see how far we’ve come in the opposite direction.
Rick:
Alright. Well, Vicky will be with us when we return. Stay with us, folks, you’re listening to WallBuilders Live.
A Moment From AMERICAN HISTORY
This is Tim Barton from WallBuilders with another moment from American history. The Second Amendment to the Constitution which guarantees to every individual the right to keep and bear arms has been targeted for years now by those who are determined to dismantle the individual right to self-protection.
Opponents argue that only the militia, the military, and law enforcement are to have and use firearms. But those who wrote the Second Amendment strenuously disagreed, including Founding Father Richard Henry Lee, a signer of the Declaration, a president of the Continental Congress, and one of those who actually frame the Second Amendment.
He declared “To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young how to use them.”

Welcome Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler
Rick:
Welcome back to WallBuilders Live. Thanks for staying with us. Always good to have Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler. Good to have you back, ma’am. Thanks for some time.
Vicky:
You bet, Rick. Glad to be here.
Rick:
Well, you’re in the thick of it. And of course, because you’re over the target, you’re taking flak. And now of course, Twitter doesn’t like you because you speak truth and they’ve decided to suspend you. So I know, this is nothing new to you. You’ve been through this at the state level, at the federal level.
So them trying to cancel you for speaking truth, you’re used to it. But we wanted you to still talk about it and share with our listeners so they know what’s happening out there. So let me just first say thank you, thank you for having backbone, for speaking truth and not being afraid to do so.
A lot of people think there’s no good guys and gals left. And you’re definitely one of them. And we want them to know you’re in the thick of it up there.
Vicky:
Well, I appreciate it. I appreciate you give me an opportunity to speak since Twitter has been in my account and they’re trying to silence me for simply saying that women’s sports should be for women, not men pretending to be women. And it is a foundational truth that God made men and women.
William Thomas
And we have instances now where we have biological males who think that they are a woman now competing in women’s sports, and they’re taking away the medals, the scholarships, the opportunities to fulfill your dreams. And it’s just wrong. I’m a former track coach. I, in high school, ran track myself, play basketball, did a lot of girls sports. And I enjoyed it. It meant a lot to me.
And then I became a teacher and taught at high school and junior high and I was a track coach for six years. And these young ladies work hard. And it means a lot to them to be able to compete. If there are educational opportunities, scholarship opportunities, and just the pride of working hard and earning that metal and standing on that podium.
And now we have, it’s just lunacy where we’re allowing males to compete on women’s team and women are being told to be silent about it. And this is really a women’s rights issue. And I simply brought up the example that’s happening right now at UPenn, University of Pennsylvania, where we had William Thomas, who was swimming on the male team for two years there and decided during COVID that he was really a woman.
And so he went to the coach and he said, hey, I’m a woman, I started some hormone therapy. And now he’s swimming on the women’s team. And not surprisingly, he is setting all new records, not just at the school, but also in the conference. And this month is the NCAA tournament where he’s expected to win and set new records. And his goal is to swim on the Olympic team.
And 16 of these female athletes had to write an anonymous letter through an attorney. They had to write it anonymously protesting because they were told that if they spoke out against their so called teammate, they were going to be kicked off the team. And they also were told they would never get a job.
And it’s just wrong. So I’m speaking out on their behalf and just saying, hey, let’s get back to common sense. Let’s get back to biology. Let’s get back what’s right. And let’s defend women’s sports.
Romans 1
Rick:
Well, God bless you for being rational. I mean, it was not very many years ago that just the idea of guys going over and competing in women’s sports would have been laughed at, would have been ridiculed, mocked and absolutely wouldn’t have been allowed. I mean, communities would not have allowed that to happen at their schools.
The NCAA would never have allowed that to happen. Just a few short years ago, we have lost our ever loving minds at this point, to allow it to happen. And then as you said, to turn around and make the girls, the evil ones, they’re wrong for speaking up and saying that the stealing of their sport is wrong. We’ve flipped it on its head.
I feel like I’m literally living out Romans 1: professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. And you would think that what you’re saying right now would be the common sense, majority approach, people would respond.
And frankly, and you probably know this, I would think the majority of Americans absolutely agree with what you and I are saying. But the people in charge, the majority of the people in charge, apparently think it’s perfectly fine. What do you hear from university leaders and people that you talk to that are allowing this to happen? What is their excuse?
Vicky:
Well, I haven’t had those conversations. But I have had conversations with multiple parents and with coaches and they are furious and they are on my side. They thank me for speaking up. They say this is going to ruin girls’ sports.
And we’ve been contacted anonymously by parents, female athletes that are being impacted by biological males getting to compete on the team. But they’re afraid to speak out on behalf of their children. But they have contacted me and thanked me. We’ve had coaches that have thanked me.
The Emperor’s New Clothes
It reminds me of that old book, The Emperor’s New Clothes, and it was a children’s book back in the day I read to my daughter. But it was a story about these shysters that came in and convinced the emperor that they made these beautiful clothes and there really was no clothes.
But they fully got him convinced that he they felt they were invisible or something, but that everybody else could see him but they could in any way. He took off more and more of his clothes and finally had a parade where he was supposedly showing his beautiful new clothes.
And it was a little boy standing there in the parade ground that spoke up loudly goes, mommy mommy, how come the emperor doesn’t have any clothes on? And everybody just, shocked because he actually spoke the truth.
And the emperor then realized that he had been bamboozled and it was just a fairy tale. But now I feel like we’re living in that world that everyone is afraid to speak up and tell the truth and that biological males are males, they are not women.
This particular swimmer did an interview with Sports Illustrated a couple of weeks ago and he said, I am a woman, I’m not a man, and so that’s why I should be on this team. He also went further and said that he doesn’t care about metals or records, he just loves to swim. And I say that’s great. He can go swim down to YMCA. But he does not deserve to be on this team, the women’s team and take away all the girls medals.
Rick:
Well, I only have one correction for you, Vicky, with “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. You messed up one part of the story. And that is when the little kid started to say the emperor has no clothes, he got out, the emperor and then Twitter put a big piece of tape over his mouth and he wasn’t allowed to finish.
Silenced For Saying the Truth
And therefore the emperor continued to run around naked everywhere. I mean, that’s pretty much what happens. You’re the little boy in the story, not that you’re being a boy, that’s funny in this case. You’re trying to tell everybody and they’re silencing you for simply saying women’s sports is for women. I started to sound shocked. I shouldn’t be. We’ve been watching this stuff develop. But to silence you for simply speaking truth, that’s where we are in this country.
Vicky:
That’s right. And Twitter told me that they would remove their suspension and reopen my account as soon as I took down the statement and the ad that I had placed there for my Senate run and it talks about this issue. And then after I took it down, there’d be a 12 hour countdown where I would be reinstated.
And I told them, they could have their account back. I’m not going to take it down. And I’m not going to quit speaking the truth because somebody needs to speak up for these female athletes for common sense. And let’s get back to what’s true in this world.
And I’m very concerned about the implications, not just for women’s sports, but also I’m on the Armed Services Committee. And just recently, the army did a full scale of a training session for their officers and every army personnel by September 30th is mandated to go through this training where they’re taught gender pronouns and coaching on instructions how to help subordinates and make sure they’re speaking the right pronouns and how to have a gender transition surgeries so that they could welcome the transgenders into the military service that the Biden administration has been promoting.
They were doing this while Ukraine is being under attacked by Russia. I mean, this is ludicrous. Our men and women in uniform need to be focused on the real threats facing us with the both Russia and China and Kim Jong-un in North Korea, etc, and not be pulled in off the battlefield in the training ranges to have this woke training. I mean, this is not only wrong, but it’s scary.
Infiltrating the Military
Rick:
No, it’d be the death of us if they continue it. I mean, it will destroy us because you talk about not just wokeness but complete weakness. And it’s infiltrating the military. You’re spot on. I’m so glad you’re there to call it out and say what it is. It’s amazing that story, by the way, it’s like 1820s or 30s, or something, I mean, it’s from the early 1800s and fits perfectly today.
And when the little boy does that, then his father exclaims, listen to the voice of the child. And then people start whispering and sharing the story and sharing the story until the whole people cry out, he has nothing on.
I mean, I think that’s essentially what’s happening now. You have you’ve raised it others with you have raised it. And now the rest of us have to not just ignore this. We have to echo you. We have to be kind of the force multipliers out there and say, listen to the voice of the reasonable people here.
I mean, I know the NCAA gets all kinds of political favors and obviously, taxpayer money. I mean, we’re funding most of these programs that are now championing this kind of thing. Is that strictly state issue? Or is there a federal tool that can be used here to put some pressure on this?
Vicky:
Yeah, there’s a couple pieces of legislation that I’ve co-sponsored. One of them is called the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, and it simply amidst Title IX, it clarifies males are not permitted to participate in athletic programs or activities designed for women and girls. Title IX was federal legislation passed in 1972, by Congress, signed by President Nixon saying that women should have equal opportunity to education, that includes scholarships, and that also includes sports.
And so it is appropriate for Congress to make sure there’s clarification there, those are federal dollars going out to colleges and universities and schools to support that and make sure that we clarify women’s sports are for women.
HR 1417
And then another bill, H.R. 1417, is called Safety and Opportunity for Girls Act. And it prohibits anybody construing the provisions of Title Nine in a manner that would require for going to maintenance of sex-segregated spaces, like bathrooms or sex-segregated athletic or academic programs by educational institutions.
So there’s two good bills here in Congress. And when we take the majority back, then hopefully, they we can advance these and get these passed and put these protections for women in the federal law. But I applaud those at the state level that are fighting this and trying to pass state legislation protecting women in their states as well.
Rick:
Well, I think the country’s with you, Congresswoman. I think they the Left, they destroy everything they touch is Dennis Prager says. And I think they’ve way overreached here. Most people are sick of this insanity and nonsense.
And hats off to, as you said, those at the state level that are fighting this. I remember just a few years ago, and I forget the legislator’s name and Idaho that passed a similar bill. And their teams, they had to have different rules within the state of Idaho than when they went to play outside the state. It’s just insane. It’s just ridiculous. How this thing has just created so much tension and confusion and chaos.
So, God bless you for staying in the fight. What’s the status of Twitter now? Are you suspended temporarily? Is this permanent ban? Are you and President Trump on the same list now and never can come back? What’s your status?
Vicky:
Well, this is my campaign Twitter account that was suspended. And it is suspended permanently until I agreed to take that down, which I’ve said I’m not going to and so that Twitter account is a@VickyHartzlerMo. But my official Twitter account is still up and running @RepHartzler as long as they allow that to come up as well.
“Woman” of the Year?
I tweeted a tweet about the Assistant Secretary for Health and Human Services, Rachel Levine, who’s a biological man because he was selected as USA Today’s Woman of the Year. And so I just tweeted, according to USA Today, “Men are better than women at being women.” So far, there’s allowing, they haven’t suspended my official account. And we’re just going to keep being bold and just speaking the truth in love because that’s what’s needed right now. And I think like you, that the vast majority of Americans are with us, and we’ve got to speak out or else we’ll be forever silenced.
Rick:
Well, we’re certainly with you. And just to put that in context with what Twitter’s doing to you, that would be like the phone company listening in on your call with someone and saying, we don’t like what you’re saying so we’re canceling your phone line. I mean, that’s essentially what Twitter and Facebook and these tech oligarchs are doing at this point.
So I’m glad you still have the other channel to be able to reach the people and speak truth. You’re such a great voice out there. We love you and we appreciate what you’re doing.
We’ll be praying for you, and that your voice will be amplified and that we’ll have some good solutions to these crazy problems out there. It feels like an alternative universe some mornings when I wake up. But people like you bring me back to Earth. So thank you, Vicky. Appreciate you coming on today.
Vicky:
You bet. Thank you, Rick. God bless.
Rick:
Stay with us, folks, we’ll be right back with David and Tim Barton.

Rick:
We’re back here on WallBuilders Live. Thanks for staying with us. And thanks to Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler for being with us as well. David and Tim, more and more people that are getting cancelled are saying I refuse to delete the tweet, I’m going to take the stand. I think it’s causing more and more people to leave Twitter and Facebook and these other areas. But just standing for truth and making a very simple biological statement can get you kicked off of social media these days.
Courage
Tim:
Yeah, and specifically Twitter, as you identified with first, our good friend Vicky Hartzler, Congresswoman, and also, if you look at the Christian Post, Christian Post was just recently also kicked off of Twitter, because they identified that when you look at the Women of the Year, there were several women of the year candidates and one of them was a biological male, Rachel Levine and they pointed out that, hey, that’s actually a biological male, that is a man and a man is winning Woman of the Year. And they got kicked off for saying something that was objectively true.
This is where we have seen kind of woke culture go. And first of all, it’s great that you have people like Congresswoman Hartzler, who is not worried about cancel culture, who recognizes in the era when you have national leaders demand you pay homage or you be sacrificed much like for Daniel are Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, where Daniel was thrown in the lion’s den and Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were thrown into the fiery furnace–
if you don’t worship at the altar of the God we have erected, right, what’s really great ironies, in the book of Daniel, when the king builds his own altar and says, you bow down and worship or the king says you can only pray in my name or you’re going to face the consequences.
It’s great that there are people who are willing to stand up, who have the courage who says look, consequences, let it come what may, I know it’s true, and I’m standing up for what’s true. We are seeing more and more people stand up for what’s true. It’s the reason that in the midst of a culture that seems to be grooming children to embrace some of these unbiblical practices–
To embrace this different idea of what human sexuality should be, there are organizations like even the Daily Wire that came out and when Disney said that they’re going to make sure that they’re promoting this LGBTQIA+ whatever else alphabet they’re going to add to it, when they’re going to make sure they promote that to where a huge percentage of their movies and stars, by the end of the year, are going to be promoted that agenda, the Daily Wire came out and said, well, we’re going to spend $100 million over the next three years to offer programming for kids that’s not going to have a woke agenda.
There are people standing up and fighting back. It’s crazy that someone could be deplatformed for saying something that is objectively true. But again, it’s one of the reasons that we have loved Congressman Hartzler for so many years because she’s not been afraid to stand up and say things that are true even when a culture is going in the wrong direction. This is where, guys, I would think this. This is something where Christians need to take heart and be encouraged, that we need to be courageous.
Women’s Rights In Women Sports – With Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler
Dad, one of the verses that that you’ve pointed out and have been talking about a lot over the last year and a half is in the book of Revelation, when it talks about people that will have their place in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, when it goes to the list of the murderer and the adulterer and the sorcerer and it lists all these people doing really bad things, the very first group of people listed is the cowardly, those who don’t have courage, who are not standing up as they should. We have to make sure as Christians that we have the courage, just like Congresswoman Hartzler that in era that wants to cancel you, we can’t be so fearful or so scared of being canceled that we stopped speaking what is objectively true.
Rick:
And it’s essentially sacred honor, folks, lives, fortunes, sacred honor; willing to stand up and speak truth, no matter whether somebody might cancel us or not. And I think people are sick and tired of this anyway. I think we’re tired of all that. We want people to be able to speak truth. We want to have a freedom of the debate since the magnitude of the subject is so big.
And that’s why people are pushing back on this. So we’re very thankful for Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler for standing up for saying no to the Cancel culture and continuing to speak truth we’re going to encourage you to do the exact same thing; now to speak truth, we have to know truth, right; as Tim likes to say the truth will set you free. But you’ve got to know the truth and that’s exactly right.
So you can be a part of sharing that truth, become one of our Constitution coaches, get some of the WallBuilders materials today, start sharing them with your friends and family, invite them over to your living room or to your church and sharing these things. All of that available at wallbuilders.com. Thanks so much for listening today. You’ve been listening to WallBuilders Live.
